Ecuadorean adventure

Everything about this holiday was terrific. Knowledgeable guides, great service, accommodation and food. The best bit was the wildlife. Swimming with sharks, turtles, sea lions and penguins on the same session! Ecuadorean Amazon was also brilliant. Darwin our guide was incredible.

Kept us well informed throughout so felt they took our safety seriously especially when there had been civil unrest.

Fleeting glimpse of an Iberian Lynx

5 nights in 2 contrasting areas of Andalucia, beautiful scenery, birds large and small, wild boar, otters, red deer....fleeting glimpse of the rare Iberian Lynx. A small group divided between 2 vehicles, 2 brilliant local guides who both spoke good English.

Extra special in Extremadura

Birdwatching in Extremadura in a small group we stayed in a lovely finca with great hosts and wonderful food. There were so many birds within the grounds such as shrikes and bee eaters. We had 2 expert guides with us who ensured that we experienced all the birding highlights that the area had to offer. Our particular highlights were Spanish Imperial Eagle, black storks and of course the bee eaters.

enthralling

The birding holiday to Coto Donana, Spain had everything I had hoped for. Our very knowledgable and friendly guide took us to many of the best spots around the delta and we saw a vast array of birds to the delight of all on the trip. Besides being an expert on bird identification our guide knew a great deal about the wild flowers and insects which greatly added to our overall experience. Wonderful experience!

Birdwatching in El Coto Donana just outside Seville. Tour guide was very knowledgeable and organised the whole trip very well. Small group of like-minded people staying in El Rocio, a small town which is reminiscent of a film set for a cowboy story. Busy but relaxed schedule.

Satisfyingly stimulating

I had wanted to visit Corfu for many years, and this April trip ticked all the boxes for me. The island was quiet, green and beautiful this time of the year; the hotel welcomed us warmly and was well-chosen for its site. The Albanian guide could not be faulted in any way, showing not only his wide knowledge of the birdlife in particular, but a caring and thoughtful approach to the individual needs of the guests. His sense of humour was a bonus.

Fantastic Birdwatching in Spain

We travelled to Coto Donana and Extramadura in Spain with Naturetrek in a group of 14 with two leaders. Both leaders were outstanding bird spotters (both seeing and hearing), and they worked hard to ensure everyone got on to the birds that were found. We found the majority of the target species, the only ones missed (waders) were due to there being too much water! Everything was extremely well organised throughout.

The organisation of the holiday from the booking process through to asking for feedback as soon as we got back was excellent. Naturetrek provided excellent information about the holiday with access to previous trip reports, and made everything very easy and straightforward for us.

Brilliant wildlife, great accommodation filled with the kindest people

Trinidad go-slow 16/4/24. Based at the ASA Wright nature centre in the hills of northern Trinidad. The accommodation had recently been updated and it showed, huge comfortable bed, quiet but efficient aircon, private facilities. Food in the spacious and airy dining room was a great mix of western and local. We were here to see wildlife and particularly hummingbirds, which came right up to (and sometimes inside) the huge viewing terrace. We could have sat there for a week quite happily but there were trips out ranging from watching turtles laying eggs to a tour of a a chocolate factory! Our guide Lester and driver Paul made sure we all had good looks at all the wildlife and cultural spots, Lesters wife even cooked us two meals for our evening outings, the last being on a boat in a swamp watching flamingos and scarlet Ibis at sunset, a magical finale. However I must also mention the staff at Asa Wright who were fantastic, they couldn’t do enough for us. My wife was poorly with a heavy cold and missed a couple of trips but I was happy to leave her in their care as they had been so attentive and kind.

Rating for tour operator:

Naturetrek offer a wide range of wildlife based holidays, from a weekend in Norfolk to an expedition in Antarctica. We have been on a few of their trips and enjoy their new range of “go slow” tours, these are generally at a more leisurely pace and tend to restrict the number of whole day outings to one or two. Some tours are desperate to show you absolutely everything but are so exhausting that you either don’t enjoy them or need another holiday to get over them, but these are a lovely balance of interest and relaxation

Thoroughly enjoyable tour, excellent itinerary and well led.

It was a two centre birdwatching holiday in Spain, very different habitats. The weather was excellent and the whole region was full of lush wildflowers. The leaders were very knowledgeable and found most of the target birds which they were able to identify. I was very pleased with accommodation, itinerary, quality of the leaders and there was a good atmosphere in the group throughout the trip.

This was my first organised nature based holiday and I was impressed with the pre departure information pack that included a list of what to pack and not pack (old clothes!), luggage labels, insurance information and who would be joining us in our group. Our arrival at Madrid airport went smoothly and the guides immediately made us feel comfortable, giving us clear information about how long we would be travelling to our destination and where a midway stop would be. The rural farmhouse we stayed in all week was comfortable with opportunities to sample the local food and speak to people in the area. I was most impressed with the itinerary that exposed us to a wide variety of ecosystems, bird life, flora and landscapes within an hour's drive each day. We ticked off an impressive number of birds as well as some mammals, insects and reptiles. It never felt rushed yet we fitted a lot into our day. A favourite part of the day was half an hour before dinner going through the checklist of what we had seen that day - with lots of laughter! Our guides complemented each other very well giving us expertise in the local culture, language and birds as well as butterflies and dragonflies. It was a wonderful learning experience with a group of likeminded people. I have come away from the experience wanting to stay in touch with the group and who knows maybe even travel again together?

Rating for tour operator:

The Naturetrek team was friendly and professional throughout the booking process and went out of their way to accommodate my friend and my flight arrangements. This friendly efficiency gave us peace of mind and continued throughout the week in Spain. Our guides had been well selected. They had expertise in the local culture, language and birds as well as butterflies and dragonflies. They were extremely attentive to our needs without encroaching too much - just the right balance.
