NAVARRA IN WINTER - REALM OF THE WILDCAT

The first winter holiday I've taken away from warmer climes! With the suggested 'layers' of warm clothing, I found this short trip very pleasant. Yes, it was cold, but the snow across the Pyrenees was quite beautiful, stunning scenery and plenty of wildlife to see. The first winter holiday I've taken away from warmer climes! With the suggested 'layers' of warm clothing, I found this short trip very pleasant. Yes, it was cold, but the snow across the Pyrenees was quite beautiful, stunning scenery and plenty of wildlife to see. Imagine a red fox, sitting on sparkling snow on a sunny morning, Griffon Vultures gliding over snow clad mountains, far away chamois feeding where the snow had melted, a perky red squirrel appearing from a fir tree covered in snow. Magnificent Red and Black Kites, close-up views of Crossbills, a busy little Wallcreeper the closest I've ever seen, on the face of a narrow gorge, and the beauty of the trip -the Wildcat! We were lucky in seeing two different male cats for over an hour, listening for prey, pouncing and walking around. With great food throughout, excellent accommodation and first-class guiding, this winter break was something different and enjoyable.

Rating for tour operator:

Naturetrek are a well-organised company, giving excellent pre-tour information and Leader/Guides. Accommodation has always been good, as has the food, and they cover some of the more unusual destinations for finding wildlife, making the overall holiday interesting and enjoyable.

A very enjoyable weekend in the Forest of Dean looking for target bird species and mammals of the area. The tour leaders were excellent and worked hard to secure superb sightings of crossbill, hawfinch and goshawk as well as other bird species. Excitement was experienced by those intrepid nighttime explorers who wished to see wild boar and again the tour leaders ensured that there was no disappointment. A large and fierce looking boar was seen within minutes. Later in the evening, under a moonlit sky, a family group of approximately eight members was seen by the road side eating swedes. Torch light assisted the viewing as the group scampered away. Other mammals of the area included fallow deer and rodents.

Rating for tour operator:

I am a repeat customer with Nature Trek and as a firm they have always delivered. They have excellent knowledge of the area in which their trips take place. They used tour leaders who are extremely knowledgeable on both the species searched for and the environments/areas in which the species are located.

Excellent local guide and interesting and varied itinery

Wonderful birding with a really knowlegable and helpful local guide. Very good lodgings - especially Pooks Hill, I was sorry to leave it. Tikal was thrilling, and the local guide there was so fascinating, not just about the Maya but about the history and society of Guatemala today.

I've been travelling with NatureTrek for years and while there are occasional mix-ups they are generally very well organised and willing to go that bit further to arrange extra side-trips or extensions. They also alway have excellent local birding guides.

Birdwatching tour of western Uganda ( Mbamba Swamp, Lake Mburo, Queen Elizabeth N.P., Kibale Forest ) for 7 days.

Whale watching in Baja California

A truly amazing experience watching wildlife in Baja California. We saw so many animals: grey, blue, humpback, Bryde's and sperm whales; dolphins, sea lions, elephant seals; and birds and so much more. Excellent local guide and Naturetrek guide. Highlight was the privilege of seeing and touching grey whales and their calves.

One of our best trips with Natretrek

Our trip to South Africa in February including several days in the Kruger National Park was one of our best: the weather was wonderful from beginning to end - a treat coming at this time of year for us Brits - and the range of wildlife we saw was a thrill, with 300 species of birds and nearly a full house of the big five as well.

We experienced a few mother and calves approaching our pangas and allowing us to touch and stroke them - absolutely amazing. Overall we saw 10 species of whales and dolphins including Blue Whales with calves and Humpback whales breaching. We also saw Northern Elephant Seals and the rare Guadalupe Fur Seals. In addition there were lots of birds and some interesting reptiles to appreciate. Another special experience was snorkelling with California Sea Lions at Los Islottes. We travelled on a sports fishing boat with a fantastic crew who were all just as enthusiastic as we were. We had a nature briefing each evening which was very informative. The quality of food provided by our chef was of an excellent standard - as well as the accompanying music. It was a very, very special holiday. There was no opportunity to get bored!

Rating for tour operator:

Naturetrek is very professional providing all the necessary information upfront and answering any additional questions we may have had in advance of the trip. Our tour leader was excellent. He was extremely enthusiastic and his knowledge was first rate. His relationship with the boat crew was first class which made for a brilliant experience. This is the second time that we have travelled with Naturetrek.

A fantastic experience

This was my first safari holiday and I can understand why friends encouraged me to visit Tanzania, I had a memorable time and intend to go back there again in the near future, the itinerary was well thought out and our driver/ guides were brilliant with superb knowledge of the animals and the terrain. All in all I would recommend this trip to anybody thinking of visiting Africa.

I have travelled with Naturetrek a number of times and as before I was very impressed with the way this trip was organised, the trip guide was born in Tanzania and had a wide ranging knowledge of the country and the flora and fauna. The accomadition was first class I espically enjoyed the tented camp we stayed in which was a late choice instead of a lodge. I am going on a further trip with Naturetrek to Alaska in July, and would not hesitate to recommend this company to anybody wishing to try a wildlife based trip in the future.

Borneo wildlife spectacular

Fascinating insight into the natural world of Borneo. Mammals, birdlife, insects ,reptiles and amphibians not to mention plant life and an understanding of the tensions between industrial progress and protecting the natural world.
