A long weekend on Alderney. A beautiful unspoiled island made all the more accessible and enjoyable by the tour guides and locals.

Botswana desert and delta camping safari

Our group if 8 flew to Maun, Botswana, and then travelled for 4 hours to our first camp in Khwai for 3 nights and then 4 nights in the Moremi Game Reserve. The whole experience was exceptional from the wildlife we saw to the organisation and local guides. Nothing was too much trouble for Naturetrek or Letaka (the local company in Botswana) and I felt I was in very safe hands. On the morning and evening game drives we were astonished that we ...

Nothing was too much trouble for Naturetrek or Letaka (the local company in Botswana) and I felt I was in very safe hands. On the morning and evening game drives we were astonished that we saw so many wonderful animals and birds in such quantity and were able to sit quietly and watch them without crowds of other people around. We always returned to camp to a great welcome from the 3 staff who looked after us, a cold drink, a cold flannel to wipe our hot faces, warm water to wash away the dust and a delicious meal. Well done to Naturetrek.

Travels for Jaguars

Fly and drive deep into the Brazilian Pantanal, from the Jaguar Flotel we took high-speed trips up the rivers to find the elusive Jaguars. Ably assisted by our Naturalist and by our photographic guide, not only did we capture on camera the Jaguars, but also Otters, Caiman and a multitude of birds and other mammals.

Endangered wildlife of Brazil

Organised by Naturetrek, this offered the opportunity to visit an area rich in wildlife, much of it critically endangered. We were not disappointed. Our bases were in three ecologically different areas: Savannah, river system and tropical forest. All had comfortable accommodation and were in the heart of the areas of interest. Our guide, driver and boatmen were fully competent and led us to the very best wildlife rich areas. We had close viewings ...

Our bases were in three ecologically different areas: Savannah, river system and tropical forest. All had comfortable accommodation and were in the heart of the areas of interest. Our guide, driver and boatmen were fully competent and led us to the very best wildlife rich areas. We had close viewings of Jaguar (the prime reason for the trip), giant river otter, Ocelot and Giant Anteater. Their bird knowledge was exceptional with more tan 150 species identified in nine days. Altogether a trip that fully fulfilled our expectations and was of the quality that Naturetrek has always given us.

Rating for tour operator:

Naturetrek: Probably the best tour operator in it's field. Always going at the right time to the right place. Their office service and back-up are second to none.

Thoroughly enjoyable - admittedly a fascinating location but hosted by a very knowledgable and hard working guide who was an excellent group manager

Given that our guide had very good local knowledge and an evident fascination for the landscape and nature of the region - we learned a great deal. Iceland is an expensive country but the company is aware of this and strove to provide value for money. The hotels were very good and there was a good choice of interesting restaurants and cafes - and very stimulating dinner table conversation! We are currently looking at further trips with Nature...

Rating for tour operator:

Admittedly this was our first trip with Naturetrek but it was an excellent introduction. Both the catalogues and the online information is comprehensive and we were able to call to discuss our choices etc with a local co-ordinator who has knowledge of the region/country. We intend to travel with them again and we are hoping to make one of their 'open days.'

Thrilling encounter with the elements

Iceland in the Autumn with Natjretrek Packed full, the tour took us from the Northern lights to hot springs, geysers, lava fields, black sands, ice lagoons, glaciers and waterfalls. We also did a fair amount of birdwatching and saw minke, seals and dolphins. it was thrilling to see birds I had last seen in Scotland now here. It's a great holiday for anyone interested in geology, wildlife, birds and Iceland. On the comfort side the food was ...

It's a great holiday for anyone interested in geology, wildlife, birds and Iceland. On the comfort side the food was excellent and the hotels very comfortable indeed. There were two days of long drives but only two and the scenery and well judged stops along the way made even these full of interest - nothing but praise for the guide who was kind, cheerful and knowledgeable and very attentive to our different needs. A wonderful group of people to travel with as well.

Great trips on Monterey Bay and inland nature trips

I saw the BBC programme with Matt Baker in Monterey Bay and made the decision that I would like to see the sea life in Monterey Bay for real. I looked on the web and found a trip with Naturetrek that fitted the bill. In all there were 16 of us plus the two tour leaders. It was a lovely group and both leaders were very knowledgeable about the wildlife, and enthusiastic about all members of the trip seeing all the wildlife. The Lodge we stayed in was comfortable and welcoming, with excellent food. Apart from the Blue whale, we saw everything and more. Every one of our five trips on the Bay produced something special, and the land trips were well organised. The condor appeared almost as if he had been messaged to appear! I would recommend this trip to all wildlife enthusiasts.

Rating for tour operator:

Naturetrek were very professional and enthusiastic. Any questions were immediately answered. The staff in the office were attentive and knowledgable. The two tour leaders were keen that everyone had all they needed, and saw all the wildlife around. They were on call at all times, and nothing was too much trouble.

Ecuador: a great diversity of habitats and plants

We spent two weeks exploring Ecuador's wide variety of habitats, with a dazzling variety of plants. The diversity was very impressive, particularly given that the distances travelled were relatively small. I was introduced to many new plant families. Combined with lovely hotels and lodges throughout the trip, friendly Ecuadorians and delicious food, it was a very enjoyable holiday.

The organization of our tour was perfect. International and internal flights, local transportation, accommodation, meals: everything went according to plan. Our local guide, Gustavo Canas-Valle, proved to be an extremely knowledgeable expert not just on Ecuador's flora, but also on birds and mammals, plus Ecuador's history and culture. This made for a very rounded experience.
