Expect the unexpected when viewing rare mammals in the deserts and bushveld of South Africa

All the group had visited Africa before and there were some keen spotters amongst us. This meant that we had some truly excellent views of many of the very hard to see animals that were a feature of this trip. Aardvark being one such and we had very good views of several animals on two nights. The highlight for me after a brief nighttime view was when Jason, our guide spotted a Cape Fox curled up outside its burrow only a little way from the ...

Naturetrek pick the best ground agents and our 2 guides from Lawson's Safaris were both very pleasant and thoroughly professional. Between them they maximised every opportunity to show us the hard to see mammals that we had come for. Yet the whole trip was carried out in a very relaxed but competent manner. The timing of the return journey was difficult but Naturetrek paid for access to an airport lounge which was very helpful.

The company guide was excellent, with very good knowledge and empathetic support for all members of the group. The local guide was equally good, adding local knowledge to the mix.

Spirits of the Great Bear Rainforest

It was a nine day Naturetrek visit to British Columbia, for a week's cruising the islands, channels and inlets of the Great Bear Rainforest, to watch for whales, grizzly bears, black bears, the rare white Spirit bears, bald eagles and other wildlife. We saw everything we could possibly have hoped to see – including two spirit bears and a humpback whale bubble-netting. The boat was comfortable and beautiful, the crew were great, and the small ...

We saw everything we could possibly have hoped to see – including two spirit bears and a humpback whale bubble-netting. The boat was comfortable and beautiful, the crew were great, and the small group (11, plus the Naturetrek tour leader) got on well.

Rating for tour operator:

Naturetrek certainly lived up to our expectations. From the start, the information provided was always clear, informative and interesting. We were given advice on everything from the necessary wet weather gear (very necessary!) through to what to tip the crew. The information about the trip and particularly the wildlife was great. The tour leader was a birder and very knowledgeable about the many seabirds we saw. He also worked well with the boat's crew (which we understand is not always the case).

Excellent holiday

A naturalist-guided week in the French Pyrenees, which exceeded our expectations in almost every respect. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable across a whole range of subject relating to flora and fauna, and we came hoe having learned a lot and with a new approach to looking at what is around us!

Naturetrek were efficient and helpful in all respects. We had booked with them previously for a holiday in Iceland back in 2006, and had no hesitation in booking with them again.

We also spotted birds, butterflies and birds, We also had the opportunity to learn more of Spain's sometimes turbulent history in addition to its natural wonders visiting some of the important churches and fortifications on the route which made it an interesting, varied and fascinating week. The accommodation for the week was excellent and Peter, Melanie and everyone at Casa Sarasa were excellent hosts which made this holiday even more special.

The perfect wildlife trip

This was probably the best wildlife holiday I have ever been on. Everything was incredibly well organised, the accommodation and food was well above my expectations and the guides were superb. We saw so much more than I ever expected. I had a wonderful time and 2500 photos to remind me!

On arrival we went to the accommodation where we were taken to our room before having a lovely lunch of simple yet delicious food. This quality continued throughout the holiday. We were then taken to our first birding location to get first view of the raptor migration. Weary we all went back to the rooms for showers and rest before meeting p in the evening for a delicious meal and discussion of the sightings of the day. This pattern continued for the rest of the holiday with no meal being sub standard. and the guide knowing exactly where to look for the wildlife depending on the wind direction and local knowledge.Through out the holiday we were informed of different aspects of the culture and what is being done in the area to help the wildlife. Which only added to the interest in the country.

Viewing birds galore, the entire 10 days were bursting with wonderful experiences. Some highlights included the many beautiful butterflies in Romania, each species carefully identified by our guides. Seeing a total of seven wild Brown Bears, including 2 cute cubs, from a bear hide in the deepest forest. Bran Castle, the only touristy spot in all of Transylvania! Our visit to Greci, a traditional village in the Danube Delta. The vast number of birds inhabiting the Delta and therefore the importance of protecting this gem. Swimming in the Black Sea with 'the locals'.
