An outstanding birding and wildlife experience in Extremadura and the Gredos Mountains, Spain

Fantastic, contrasting locations, great hotels and two amazingly knowledgeable and observant guides, who did their utmost to give us a great birding, wildlife and wildflower experience. They took us to places one would never imagine was possible and were obviously very familiar with the areas and knew what would likely be seen. They looked after us really well. It was great travelling with like minded people with common interests. Although ...

Well organised and fun trip

The holiday was a stay-put on the Azores island of Pico - with a number of whale watch trips, combined with an island tour to see the distinct lava landscapes. The trip was well organised and very flexible, especially when the weather didn’t play ball. The tour leader was great and I had an excellent trip.

Very informative from start to finish. The holiday was well organised, with good alternatives in place for inclement weather.

A week searching for rare orchids and other plants with excellent British guides. Picnic lunches prepared by our guides and evening meals at good Greek restaurants. Birds, insects and amphibians also studied.

Sun, snow and birds in Catalonia

My friend and I had a fantastic week in Catalonia - we are so grateful to Naturetrek for running the trip, despite the fact that we were the only people on it! We started the week high up in the Pyrenees in the snow; we saw Golden Eagles and Choughs flying above us, whilst a group of 5 Chamois shyly ventured out nearby. Marmots were whistling as they sunbathed on the rocks. And a day or two later, as the snow melted, we found lots of pink erythr...

We started the week high up in the Pyrenees in the snow; we saw Golden Eagles and Choughs flying above us, whilst a group of 5 Chamois shyly ventured out nearby. Marmots were whistling as they sunbathed on the rocks. And a day or two later, as the snow melted, we found lots of pink erythroniums, hepaticas etc. The views in the Aiguestortes N. P. were stunning - almost as good as spotting a wallcreeper on the rock face, which I had not thought I'd be lucky enough to see. Lammergeiers, Griffon Vultures, Ring Ouzel, Black Woodpecker, Wheatear - the list goes on. The last 3 or 4 days were spent on the plains or walking in the lower mountains. More wonderful views and birds; Blue Rock Thrush, Bee-eater, Little Bustard, Rock Bunting, Roller, Golden Oriole - I'm sounding like a bird book. And have hardly mentioned the plants and flowers... Every day we saw and heard so many lovely things, there are too many to mention!

Birdwatching on a beautiful island

Each day was spent seeking out the special birds associated with the island of Lesbos led by expert guides who ensured we all saw most of what we hoped to. On top of that, wonderful scenery, good food and a friendly group of people

Beginners birdwatching in Extremadura Spain

We explored various areas of Extremadura where our guides were very quick to spot birds of all kinds. Their knowledge was brilliant and they were keen to give us every opportunity to see as much as we could especially with the help of their telescopes. We saw many iconic birds and those we particularly wanted to see. Our group consisted of people who were very experienced and some less so and with restrictions that come with age. Both of our young guides were so considerate and helpful while not denying the experts. They were happy to adjust the programme to suit us all. A very happy and successful trip with an incredible selection of birds.

Fascinating and rewarding

Gentle walking to discover wonderful wild flowers on the Gargano Peninsular; an abundance of wild orchids in particular; introduced to this unspoilt area by a terrific leader who was both extremely knowledgeable and very good company.
