Lemurs in Madagascar

We had wonderful experience of Madagascar both in terms of wildlife and of the culture. We spent two weeks viewing wildlife on foot in Madagascar in a variety of environments. We saw 20 different types of lemur and many other birds insects reptiles butterflies and wonderful plants. I loved the spiny forest in particular. The Malagasy people were friendly and engaging. The highlight of the holiday for me was standing under a tree while an Indiri sang to his group, which was quite magical.

Naturetrek ensured that the trip was well organised from start to finish with a high level of guides (sometimes 5) to our small group ( maximum 9). The wildlife viewing was maximized by the timing of the tour in the year and the timing of the walks in the day. The guides both local and English were helpful and knowledgeable . The accommodation and food was of a high standard which helped because the early starts, and long hours spent walking and travelling were tiring.

Incredible sightings of Lynx!

It was great to get a very close-up viewing of a young adult female very near to the vehicle - we followed her for about a half-hour and watched typical cat behaviour, checking out the bushes, scratching on her favourite log and then hunting and catching a small rodent. Amazing to get such good views of this rare and elusive cat! Otherwise, the birding was also great, hotels and food quite acceptable and the small group size was perfect.

First-class experience

The tour was titled the ‘Best of Ethiopia’ and we certainly got that. We saw an amazing variety of beautiful and fascinating landscapes and although this involved a lot of travel, it was never dull as we passed through towns and villages and ever-changing scenery. Birding in the stratosphere

This was a combined holiday, Bolivia lowlands and Bolivia Highlands. This gave us an insight on how life changes with altitude. It also demonstrated the effort the government is putting in to create better road infrastructure and housing opportunities. The birding was as promised, lived up to expectations because the tour guides had excellent bird call recognition, a must when operating in dense habitats and low cloud conditions.

Rating for tour operator:

very good pre-departure information from England and a determination to see as much as possible in the field. All tour members were birders and the guides bent over backwards to ensure, as far as possible, that all sightings were enjoyed by all members. Detailed explanation of why such a bird was named was always available when requested. Naturetrek had obviously researched the guides credentials and given them high grades before employing them.

Getting close to nature in Zambia

A wonderful wildlife trip to the South Luangwa National Park with Naturetrek. Away from the crowds of people often found in other National Parks, this was a truly memorable experience, with great views of all the iconic African species. We were based in the Kafunta River Lodge, right in amongst elephants and hippos, antelopes, giraffes, leopards, lions, water buffalo and lots of birds, both large and small. Wildlife small group tour to Spain featureing the Iberian Lynx

This was a fantastic experience taking in two fascinating regions of Southern Spain. The two hotels we stayed at were delightful with good local food. We saw the most fantastic range of birds including raptors and waterbirds, some in spectacular numbers. The group also had sightings of the very rare Iberian Lynx as well as other mammals such as Ibex, Mouflon and Red and Fallow deer, the last two being very numerous.

I have been on several Naturetrek holidays which have all been very enjoyable and this one comes at the top of the list. Their itineraries and destinations are always interesting and this was no exception. Their tour guides have always been knowledgeable and helpful and on this occasion our two guides Simon and Vikki were just brilliant. I can't praise them enough for helping to make this holiday truly memorable.
