Brilliant guides, and despite horrendous weather conditions, I had a great time.

It was a Naturetrek guided 6 day trip to the Forest of Dean and then the Somerset levels, with a visit to Slimbridge on route. The guides were so enthusiastic and brilliant at spotting what birds were about that I felt we had the best possible opportunity to enjoy everything despite the worst possible weather conditions. The hotels were fine and we were very well fed throughout.

Somerset's Winter Wildlife

Three days in Somerset in February visiting different wildlife areas as a group of eleven plus two leaders. It would be difficult to overstate just how good these three days were. Olly and Dave were a brilliant team enthusiastic ,skillful ,helpful and fun to be with. The itinerary was well balanced and the wildlife exciting. Even the weather mostly played ball. Particularly loved the penduline tits, the incredibly confiding red crested pochard and the contrast between the mass starling murmuration on the levels ( with ring side seats courtesy of Olly) and the wonderful long aerial display of the starlings at Weston.

Naturetrek excel at these short breaks as well as their long haul wildlife holidays. They have been flexible and trustworthy throughout the pandemic and I highly recommend them.

Super Somerset's Winter wildlife adventure

First introductory evening the guides elicited specific wishes of each member of the Group. Guides worked well together and generated a relaxed and friendly atmosphere with all group members. Guides used extensive and current local knowledge to satisfactory results for all but one desire - never saw a Bittern even though we heard 'booming' nearby. Accommodation was central to the area covered - excellent food. Overall a fun adventure with several ...

A magical weekend

Despite travelling on what was probably the worst weekend of weather for decades we set out from London after being advised to stay at home. Joining a group who were much more experienced bird watchers than us we soon settled into the rhythm of the group and got excited at the thought of the programme of visits. There were many highlights but the magic of watching the starling murmuration both in the evening and then the following morning was truly breathtaking and humbling. The guides on this tour - Matt and David shared so much knowledge and has inspired me to do more of these visits. You cannot ask for much more than returning home with an enhanced curioisity of wildlife. Definitely an inspiration and a tonic after months of pandemic lockdown.

Fabulous experience from start to finish

My first Naturetrek holiday and introduction to birdwatching in Somerset. Learnt a great deal in beautiful settings. Superb guides, lots of interesting sightings and an enthusiastic group made this a delightful few days of total immersion in nature. Really good to have two local guides that knew the area so well and could choose perfect locations for wildlife sightings. Their knowledge and enthusiasm was a real bonus.

Kent winter wildlife

Naturetrek provided a good winter break bird watching in Kent in February 2022 taking in several good birdwatching stes on a four day break. A good variety of birds were found , thankfully the weather was kind and so enabled some enjoyable visits in the field.A great ,although somewhat quirky hotel in the Marquis of Granby, however the food was good and the attentive and friendly staff made it an overall enjoyable experience

Birding in Jamaica

Birding in trails on Green Castle Estate and in the Blue Mountains with an excellent Naturetrek tour guide plus expert local guides. The accommodation has wonderful views across mountains, coast and lush foliage. Humming-birds visit the feeders and flowers beside the pool all day.

Uganda mammals and mountains

a great mix of trekking (gorillas and chimps) safaris, (lions, antelopes, elephants etc) and boat trips (pelicans, shoebills kingfishers etc) the guide accompanied us throughout. His mammal and bird spotting skills and identification was amazing. Nothing was too much trouble

Two years of forced Covid domesticity finally over

Birdwatching in the frigid wastes of Bulgaria and Romania may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but it was just what I needed.
