The West Highland Way

This walk through the West Highlands was a fantastic experience. From Loch Lomond onwards the landscape is breath-taking. All the B&Bs we stayed in along the trail were good, some being the best we'd stayed in anywhere. We took an extra day in Fort William to climb Ben Nevis. What better way to end a wonderful journey?

Mickledore's experience and careful planning was very evident throughout. We were very impressed by the arrangements the company had made for our overnight stops, luggage transfer and the genuinely useful information pack provided. There was no fuss. Perfect.

Another fabulous walking holiday organised by our first choice company!

Following our successful Coast to Coast walk last year we decided to walk Hadrian's Wall this year. We travelled up to Corbridge by train and used the directions/details provided to locate our B&B and to enjoy the location. Following our successful Coast to Coast walk last year we decided to walk Hadrian's Wall this year. Using Mickledore Travel's website, we decided how many days we wanted to walk to ensure an acceptable average daily mileage to suit our needs. We travelled up to Corbridge by train and used the directions/details provided to locate our B&B and to enjoy the location. We walked for 4 days and on each day we stayed at a first class B&B, enjoying an evening meal at the B&B or at one of the local pubs/restaurants. (All details provided in advance by our tour operator). Our luggage was transported to the next B&B while we walked with a backpack carrying just the essentials for the day! A hearty breakfast and healthy packed lunch was provided by our hosts which catered perfectly for walkers needs. We were given maps, books and valuable information about the locations we were visiting which enhanced our free time after and between walks. We are so thrilled with the Mickledore Experience we intend to undertake a walking holiday every year!

Rating for tour operator:

This is the second time we have used Mickledore Travel to arrange a walking holiday for us. Like the first one, it was an absolutely fabulous trip which owes much to the excellent organisational skills and knowledge of Mickledore Travel. We love walking and so having an opportunity to walk in areas we are unfamiliar with is really important to us. As we book early, we get the very best bed and breakfast accommodation which is often better than top class hotels. The pre-holiday communication and resources to help us plan are first class and ensure we are fully prepared for the adventure. The service which takes our bags from one place to another, enabling us to carry only daily essentials is brilliant and makes all the difference. Overall the service is outstanding!

Just get in touch when you are ready to start planning your next adventure! Thanks again, Lucy.

This is the fourth year we have used Mickledore to assist us with our Annual Walking holiday. We will be booking a holiday next year. We have always found them to be extremely helpful, provide excellent information on our walks and have been responsive to any questions or concerns we have had over the four years.

Wonderful coastal walk around the Isle of Arran, Scotland

In six days we walked all around the isle, along the coast. The walks were varied, sometimes quite challenging but very rewarding: beautiful scenery, lots of wildlife, great places to stay and to eat and, to top it all off, we were provided with clear blue skies throughout.

A Wonderful Walk Alongside Hadrian's Wall

My first night was spent in Tynemouth in a splendid period townhouse close to the sea. While not on the trail itself, Tynemouth is a very nice town and I could easily have stayed a further night there. (Using the term "rest day" doesn't seem appropriate given at this stage I would not have done any walking to warrant a rest). The walk itself was quite relaxing, not too demanding, and was well signposted throughout its length. It is amazing to think that it took the Romans only 6 or 7 years to build the wall. English Heritage have a number of Roman sites to visit along the way, and are a welcome break for light refreshments etc. Slightly off the trail is Vindolanda Fort where archaeological digs are currently in progress. Unfortunately I couldn't fit this visit in but I was told many times, that of the forts to visit, this is the one. As you could quite easily spend up to a full day there, take Mickledore's advice and book a rest day at Twice Brewed (or thereabouts). Also, before you reach Chollerford (from the East), pay a visit to St Oswalds Church, then walk behind the church and admire the magnificent view. And finally, a thank you to Mickledore for excellent accommodation along the way.

Rating for tour operator:

Excellent; totally reliable.

Mickledore Travel responded to this review on 29 Apr 2016:

Thank you for your feedback Norman. We are glad you enjoyed your holiday and that you found the Hadrian's Wall Path an interesting yet relaxing walk with excellent accommodation. It is a shame that you missed Vindolanda but hopefully you enjoyed the rest of the Forts and Roman sites along your way as well as your visit to St Oswald's Church. Thanks again Lucy.

Mickledore could have organised the complete Newcastle to Bowness walk but we had already completed the Newcastle to Corbridge part. Mickeldore are very flexible in what they will arrange for you. They organised our luggage haul, bed and breakfast and provision of packed lunches. They also give recommendations of places to eat in the evenings, and lists of useful information about the places we are staying, including public transport and taxi details. We found their service was excellent, friendly and helpful. We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday and felt that had we had any problems with anything to do with the holiday, they would be able and happy to help.

a well organised trip with great accommodation and a most enjoyable walk

Great organisation, and the luggage transfer made the linear walk much easier. Most accommodation was absolutely furs rate, and greatly added to the experience. As a first long distance path, this was a really good experience, and we would do a similar walk again.

Beautiful Walk

I spent 4 days trekking across the South Downs. The trail was extremely easy to follow with good way marking. The path was often quite muddy but quiet with very few road crossings. The scenery was beautiful even in winter when the trees had no leaves.
