Another memorable walking holiday from Mickeldore

We walked the 80 miles of the Northumberland Coastal path from Morpeth to Berwick, in 5 days, with extra days built into our itinerary to visit the sea bird colonies on the Farne Islands, and Lindisfarne. Mickeldore orgainsed our accommodation and luggage transfers, enabling us to relax and enjoy a wonderful - if occasionally wet and footsore - week exploring the rugged beauty of the North East.

Rating for tour operator:

This was the third self-guided walking holiday that we have booked with Mickledore over the last 5 or 6 years, and once again their detailed knowledge of the route resulted in a well-planned itinerary combined with some excellent and welcoming B&Bs. Mickeldore were able to work around our specific dates, build in rest days in the locations we wanted, and provided local maps and comprehensive information on local amenities including recommendations for meals. I have no hesitation in recommending Mickeldore to anyone interested in enjoying everything our beautiful countryside has to offer.

Coast to Coast Walk St. Bees to Robin Hood's Bay May 2016

It was a wonderful experience helped by terrific weather and spectacular scenery. However, the real highlight was the people I met, including fellow walkers, locals and the owners and staff of the places I stayed. There was a genuine warm and friendly welcome at all 17 places that I stayed which is testimony to the operator for picking these venues.

Rating for tour operator:

Brilliant, from the information they supplied to their flexibility and problem solving initiative when there was a problem. One of the venues suffered storm damage and another had a blocked toilet but Mickledore and to an extent the venues in question sorted out alternative accommodation and presented me with a solution before I even knew there was a problem

Thank you for your fantastic feedback, John. It is lovely to hear that you enjoyed the walking and the weather but it is also great to hear that what made your holiday was the people that you met along the way and the welcome you received from your accommodations. Thank you also for rating Mickledore as brilliant! Sonja

Our walking holiday of the Northumberland coast was wonderful.

The coast is beautiful and the walking was usually easy. The daily miles were doable and the accommodations were excellent. A bus line shadowed the route so that we could ride a bus if we wanted to stop walking.

Rating for tour operator:

The tour was reasonably priced and well-organized. The lodging that they arranged was excellent. They provided much useful information about the route. They rearranged our trip slightly without a problems. I recommend this trip highly and will use Mickledore again for other trips.

This is the second time we have used Mickledore and highly recommend them. The contact prior to the walk was excellent with friendly help. The documentation provided covered all aspects of the holiday and great attention was paid to the detail. As they say it's all in the planning and their plan big is excellent. Information before the holiday included the maps, the booklet, details of where to eat when we arrived at the guest house and detailed description and maps on how to get to the guest house.

The hike along the wall was beautiful and we were lucky to enjoy sunny weather all 5 days. This is the perfect holiday for couples who want to see the countryside, enjoy some history and visit some of the smaller towns along the way. The food was great at every stop and we found that the full English breakfasts at each of the B&Bs carried us through to dinner with a small snack mid-day. Having our luggage transferred between each stop made it easy to pack what we needed with out the concern of being overburdened on our hike. A wonderful way to travel!

Rating for tour operator:

Customer service was excellent and bookings with B&Bs were all great. Mickledore even let our hosts know that we were on our Honeymoon which was very nice as a couple of the B&Bs made sure our stay was extra special. The hiking itinerary was perfectly balanced and documentation provided for our route and meal planning was very helpful. We look forward to booking another trip with them in the future!

St Cuthbert's Way, 5 days' walking from Melrose to Holy Island

This was a great self-guided walk from the Tweed Valley, across the Scottish borders and through the Cheviots to Holy Island, via the causeway. Having chosen the 6 night package, I walked between 7 and 17 miles a day for 5 days, but shorter and longer options are possible. Rating for tour operator:

Mickledore arranged excellent B and B for each night halt and provided all the information I needed along the way. This included a guide book and map of the walk (waterproof, although I completed in the dry!) tide and bus timetables, where to eat, shop and find other facilities. I didn't opt for packed lunches or baggage transfer, but these could be added to the package if wanted.

Rating for tour operator:

Everything was organized. We didn't have to worry about where we were staying and how to transport our luggage. Every location was clean and people were very helpful. We received our information package long enough beforehand to read through and familiarize ourselves with where we were going. All of the information was useful and helpful in organizing places to eat and visit.

Thank you for your excellent feedback Sara and it is nice to hear that you had everything you needed in your holiday pack and that you could just relax and enjoy the scenery on the Cumbria Way. Wonderful walk on the South (Up and ) Downs Way!

Walking tour starting in Winchester and proceeding at a (reasonably) leisurely pace, averaging 11 - 14 miles daily, ending in Eastbourne. The trail was well-marked, guidebook was up-to-date and comprehensive. We were fortunate to have only two misty days overall. Spring flowers were in bloom. Contracted B & B's were all quite satisfactory. The multitude of tiny stone churches we passed and/or visited were amazing. I had/have a happy wife...

Rating for tour operator:

Contracted services were exactly as advertised, including arranging all lodging, providing guidebooks and trail info, and daily transportation of luggage to our next night's abode. Mickledore's website is easy to navigate, queries were expeditiously handled, and payments from outside the UK were simple. We're planning another walking tour with them next year.

We have enjoyed reading your feedback about the South Downs Way, Darryl. Thank you for your great feedback about Mickledore and we are pleased that everything included in your holiday was exactly as you were expecting. It is really nice to hear that you and your wife enjoyed both the walking and the sights along the way such as the wildflowers, churches and Inns! And it is great that you are now planning your next adventure, Thanks again Steve.

Rating for tour operator:

Our tour operator, Mickledore did an excellent job in selecting and booking accommodations for 14 people each night. They arranged to have our heavy bags transferred daily to our next location. This was executed flawlessly. Mickledore provided maps and instructions on the route and details about public transport and tides. Their pre planning was excellent and meant that our vacation went off smoothly. Special thanks to Lynne for here attention to detail.

Mickledore Travel responded to this review on 25 May 2016:
