Best walking company we have used

Walked the Pembrokeshire Coast path. Mickledore provided accommodation - exactly as we requested, baggage service and maps, etc. All went very well. We will use them again for the next walking holiday

A Wonderful Lake District Walk

We walked the Cumbria Way trail from Ulverston to Caldbeck, with layover days in Coniston and Kewsick so we could see local sites of interest. Thus, four days of walking, about 55-58 miles, and six days in total. The walking is not particularly demanding, and one could easily walk through, as most people do, but as the Lake District was new to us, we wanted to have time to explore. Thus, four days of walking, about 55-58 miles, and six days in total. The walking is not particularly demanding, and one could easily walk through, as most people do, but as the Lake District was new to us, we wanted to have time to explore. We have previously visited Carlisle at the end of the Hadrian's Wall walk, so we did not do that final section of the Cumbria Way on this holiday. We found the countryside as beautiful as any we have walked in the UK, not least because we had very favorable weather. We were very happy we took extra time in Coniston to explore Grasmere and vicinity, and we loved the opportunity in Keswick to take advantage of the excellent theater, dining, museum, Mirehouse, and Gardens. A very fine holiday.

We have walked Hadrian's Wall, the Cotswolds, the Dingle Peninsula in Ireland, and a circular trail in Scotland, organized by other holiday operators and in one case by ourselves, directly. We had not been off a National Trail before, and we consider ourselves walkers, not climbers or technical navigators, so we were more reliant on Mickledore for our arrangements. Moreover, we booked on relatively short notice, about 7 weeks before beginning our holiday, so the Mickledore staff had to scramble to find accommodations at a busy time of year. Mickledore's service was outstanding, the best we have had. We say that because of the extremely swift, timely booking; the immediate, and informative, responses to e-mailed questions about routing, day navigation using the excellent local buses, and more; and the completely outstanding written material on where B&B's are located from the trail, and on services along each segment of the walk, in each town, for dinner, and more. From taxi operators to bus services to dining information, everything was comprehensive and spot-on for our needs. We have never had anything remotely like that. We think this reflects Mickledore's very deep knowledge of its "home territory," and are grateful that they are so expert in making arrangements and communicating about them, on their clients' behalf. Exemplary. And we were very, very satisfied with our lodgings, particularly when arranged on such short notice, and very impressed with Mickledore's outreach to receive evaluations of all services after the walk. Outstanding professionals, and completely pleasant people to work with.

A great walk well organised by a most professional company

We walked St Cuthbert's Way from Melrose to Lindisfarne over 8 days in June using Mickledore to plan it and organise accommodation and the forwarding of luggage etc. We are a couple in our late sixties and found the walk easy to manage with no great ascents and descents involved, lots of woodland, moors, flora and fauna to enjoy, as well as the wonderful historical places passed through. Having started our trip in Dublin where we saw the luminous medieval book of Kells, it was pleasing to end our time in the UK at Holy Island and see the wonderful priory where the monks resided.

We have used this company before and find it by far the most professional of several we have used. In particular we valued their request for honest feed back afterwards. The accommodation reflected the limited availability in one or two villages but this was compensated for by superb accommodation in others. The company were quick and efficient in responding to any questions and sorted out several travel issues for us beforehand as we live overseas. The comprehensive maps, folders, and accompanying book and information were great and arrived in plenty of time before we left our home in Tasmania, Australia. We would always use this company where possible for this sort of holiday and can't recommend them highly enough.

Perfectly planned

Mickledore have planned several walking holidays for us. Everytime the organisation and local knowledge exceeded our expectations. The choice of accomodation, the luggage transfer, the information and maps provided, everything came together like clockwork.

Holiday without a hitch

We walked the Dales Way in the second half of June and enjoyed every minute of it, despite some rainy days now and then and pretty low temperatures. Our accommodation ranged from good to excellent, the same goes for the food.Luggage transport went without a hitch.

It was the third time we went on a hiking tour in England organized by Mickledore and we haven't had a single complaint sofar. On the contrary, like the Cumbria Way and the South Downs Way before everything on this year's Dales Way hike went like clockwork. And there's still lots to see in this beautiful country...
