Hadrian's Wall by New lease oflife, 26 Sep 2016

Hadrian's Wall charity walk

I spent ten days walking the Path with a friend, staying in b and b's each evening. The inflation, provided was outstanding and enabled us to find the Path even when there was no one else around and the path wasn't clear to see on the ground. Each B and B was unique but, almost without exception, they were outstanding in terms of welcome, standard of rooms and the quality/quantity of breakfast and packed lunch.

Mickledore were everything I hoped for and more. The planning, Communication., attention to detail were second to. One and meant that we did not have to worry about a thing. When I fell ill they were superb, contacting B and B owners and rearranging transport with Hadrian's Haul. Even when I phoned on a Sunday morning. The response was courteous, prompt and efficient.

Mickledore Travel responded to this review on 26 Sep 2016:

I'm pleased to hear that you had a great time despite becoming ill and I'm happy that I could help you on a Sunday. We are contactable at all times during your walk so you always have help if it is needed. I hope you are feeling better now and we hope to be able to organise another walk for you when you are ready to choose your next trip.

First time, but definately not the last

It was my first time traveling with Mickledore Walking Holidays, and I must admit I was a little anxious when booking. Not because of anything relating to the organization, but rather about traveling alone. I love walking and am comfortable in my own company, but was I going to be lonely? lost? perhaps lost in translation?. The truth is, traveling alone has been an eye-opener for me and I found that you're never really alone when you travel alone...

I love walking and am comfortable in my own company, but was I going to be lonely? lost? perhaps lost in translation?. The truth is, traveling alone has been an eye-opener for me and I found that you're never really alone when you travel alone. All the friendly people I've met on the way, from the local people to fellow travelers, have truly made the experience for me. That, combined with the excellent organization of the trip by Mickledore ensured I never felt lost. Logistics were taken care of beyond expectation, so I was free to enjoy the experience. I will definately be back for more!

Rating for tour operator:

Mickledore Walking Holidays goes above and beyond to make sure your trip runs smoothly. All the logistics are taken care of for one, but more importantly their travel tips make you feel like traveling with a local. Excellent!

Mickledore Travel responded to this review on 26 Sep 2016:

Its great to hear that you had such a successful trip walking the Coast to Coast solo and I agree that you are never truly alone on a long distance route such as this. The other walkers and the local people will make sure of that and we are just at the end of the phone if you need us.
I hope that this has given you an appetite for more solo walks in the UK and we look forward to organising more walks for you !

Wonderful experience on the Cotswold Way

Once again, Mickledore came through with excellent support, high quality and comfortable B&Bs and really good logistics (maps, guidebooks, etc.). We will book with Mickledore for all of our future UK hikes.

Couldn't have wished for more.

I walked the Dales Way and by using Mickledore Travel to arrange the overnight accommodation and baggage transfer enabled me to fully enjoy the walk which i did. I had holidayed on the Yorkshire coast before but never in the dales. The walk took me through the Dales and into Cumbria. Fantastic scenery and very hospitable people all the way.

I went into the Mickledore Travel office in Keswick when i was on holiday there and had a chat to Tara about walking the Dales Way. She was very knowledgeable as were all the staff i spoke to. After booking the holiday and a few weeks before i was due to start my walk i was sent a pack with all the info, maps etc to guide me along the way. Very professional and friendly people. Would highly recommend.

Walking Tour along Hadrian's Wall

My brother and I started at Segedunum (Newcastle) and walked our way across the country to Bowness on Solway. It was a great walking holiday with good food, very nice B&B's and many friendly people. It was a good experience.

Rating for tour operator:

The basics are that the B&B's were always expecting us and our luggage was awaiting. There was never a problem. The packed lunches were always bountiful and delicious. On top of that was that the B&B's were very nice and comfortable and the hosts were helpful and friendly. I believe that Mickledore provided a very nice selection of B&B's for the nightly lodging.

Thank you for your feedback, we do our best to choose great accommodation so we are pleased to hear that you were happy with our choices and enjoyed your walk. I hope that you will soon be back when you have decided on your 2017 walk!

Hadrian's Wall Trek

A fabulous week of walking - five of us walked the full trail from East to West. It was tough on some days, either in terms of miles or terrain but what a feeling of achievement when we finished! I wanted to mark turning 50 by completing the Wall and am lucky to have friends daft enough to think this was a good way to spend a week!

The organisation was first class and very efficient, any queries in the lead-up to the holiday were answered straight away, information provided in the pack was detailed and meticulous and the accommodation chosen and booked for us by Mickledore was fabulous! We can't wait to do our next holiday with them in Summer 2017!

Accommodation from our start point in Morpeth until Berwick was either good or excellent. The walk itself was enjoyable but not spectacular, some of the coastal views were stunning but rather too many golf courses to contend with and caravan sites. Walking over to Holy Island was a challenge as there were far to many cars sharing the route. We did see a seal close up and a rewarding pub lunch was enjoyed. On another day we saw a red squirrel. The route was badly signed and at times you had to rely on the guidebook. It is not a challenging walk and the daily distances averaged around 12 miles.

This is our second holiday with Mickledore, the first was the South Downs Way, and have no hesitation in recommending them.

Mickledore Travel responded to this review on 22 Sep 2016:

Thank you for your feedback. We are pleased you enjoyed your second holiday although you didn't find the scenery as spectacular as other walks. Its good to hear that you were pleased with the accommodation we selected for you and we hope that we can arrange a third walk for you soon.
