We are satisfied with all services of Mickledore! Hotel (B&B) accomodations, luggage transport, packed lunches are well taken care of. We only have to enjoy hiking with no problems.

Ran like clockwork

Our Cumbrian Way Walking Holiday was organised with immense attention to detail. The information pack provided us with a wealth of information about the hamlets, villages and towns we would be walking through and possible places to eat or to purchase supplies. All accommodation was ideal for walkers.

A relaxing 11 days walk along the Cotswold Way

Another wonderful walking holiday, very relaxing and most enjoyable. I could not have wished for better accommodation - thankyou Mickledore. If you stay overnight at Stanton - a stunning Cotswold village - you must dine at the Mount Inn. Apart from there is no where else, the food and service is excellent. Make sure that you get there before dark to enjoy the views towards Wales, and don't forget your torch. Stanton has no street lights and it really is pitch black. The entire Cotswold Way is well signposted. If you get lost, it is because you are not concentrating which is quite easy to do when taking in the views etc. Looking forward to 2016 and planning my next holiday with Mickledore.

As ever, Mickledore provided a first class service. For this holiday, I gave less than 4 weeks notice and they delivered. All arrangements were booked and finalised within 6 days of my request. Faultless.

Thanks Norman - a lovely review. I'm pleased you enjoyed the holiday. I haven't actually eaten at the Mount - but you are right - the views are superb. I'm pleased the food is of an equal standard! Pleased to hear you are planning you next holiday - give us a shout if you have any questions.

Excellent and very well thought out.

For mum's 70th birthday I wanted us to do something together, a proper walking holiday somewhere in the UK. Mickeldore took control and all I had to do was pack some boots and write a check the rest was a breeze. We spent 5 days walking the Dales Way with superb accommodation, excellent food and easy to follow directions, the whole experience felt well organized and good value and I would recommend them without hesitation. What I'd hoped it to be, along with some serendipity.

Caught an almost perfect window for the weather after a rainy summer. Mickledore arranged some great places to stay that enhanced the walk (on the Cumbria Way) over a stretch of 60 miles. I could not ask for more in regard to the meals, holiday pack, and how the trip unfolded.

Rating for tour operator:

Mickledore arranged accommodation and coordinated baggage transfer with Sherpa. The guide to the Cumbria Way was okay, though I think the narrative supplied by the Cicerone guide (that I found independently) was a bit better for route finding when the track went through paddocks and rural roads. The Harvey map that they provided was excellent, however. Directions to each bed & breakfast were fine, and each host very knowledgeable about dinner and pub options.

Mickledore Travel responded to this review on 13 Nov 2015:

Thank you for your feedback Steve. We started using the Rucksack Readers guide following previous feedback from our clients. However we are always looking to improve our holidays and your comments about the Cicerone guide are much appreciated. We are pleased to hear that you had a great holiday with good accommodation and that everything went so well for you. We are glad you caught the good weather - although we can't take credit for arranging that for you! Lucy

Very good. Got stuck without a transfer 1 day where weather was bad & we were what we felt was in the middle of nowhere. Phoned Mickeldore & within 20 min. there was another one picking us up. Contact before & after the holiday has been excellent. They were very prompt with their replys to all our questions.

We picked the places where we thought we could make in a day then told Mickledore who arranged everything the way we wanted it. They suggested staying an extra day at Twice Brewed which was just perfect. Vindolanda was such an interesting place we could have spent all day there. Good suggestion by M. The B+B's were lovely and the hosts most hospitable. Some of the B+B's had an intersting history which we found fasinating as well. One had been a hospital another a officers quarters during WW1. The Hadrians Wall book, maps and informtion sheets were done so well. Because of that we never felt isloated. We had answers all the time. There were so many things that I can't think of them all but the whole plan went without a problem. It was a dream come true for all of us.

Rating for tour operator:

Mickledore was a most responsible reliable tour company. I would reccomend them to everyone.

We completed a 7 night walking holiday to Hadrian's Wall with friends at the beginning of October and enjoyed every minute. It helped that we were blessed with very decent weather! We walked east to west from Heddon on the Wall to Bowness on Solway which was 5 days of walking with a rest day near Vindolanda Fort. The scenery in the middle section (in Northumberland National Park) was fantastic with 360 degree views and long continuous sections of Wall. The forts of Vindolanda, Housesteads and Birdoswald were very interesting as was Corbridge Roman town. There were also the remains of milecastles and turrets along the way. The walk is quite "wild", especially the middle section, with few villages or shops until arrival in Carlisle and this added to the sense of history. All the B&Bs arranged by Mickledore were excellent.

Rating for tour operator:

Mickledore were extremely helpful and efficient, both when taking the booking and dealing with a couple of changes to our booking. The information pack they provided was comprehensive and included a wonderful guide book, a waterproof map, our itinerary and directions to each B&B, loads of helpful information about places to eat each night, location of ATMs, pharmacies, doctors etc as well as train and bus timetables for the return journey. They also organised luggage transfer for us as well as packed lunches for each day of walking. I would definitely use Mickledore again when planning a walking holiday.

Great walks and good accommodation in beautiful surroundings

A walking holiday in the British Lake District: the walks were well designed, the notes (mostly) good, but needing maps (supplied) for support. Accommodation was in (mostly) excellent B&Bs with nearby restaurants or good pub food, with luggage transported between B&Bs so that we only needed to carry day packs. The walks were demanding but do-able for keen hikers, and took us to some stunningly beautiful locations.
