Hadrian's Wall by jscott, 3 Oct 2017
Holiday Rating:

Very well organised, nice accomodation througout, nice, uncomplicated contact with Mickledore Walking.

Walking (Hadrian's Wall Highlights) and we enjoyed it very much. Everything was very well organised in advance and we were able to do this interesting walk with just our day packs. This meant we could concentrate on enjoying the great countryside and POIs on the way.

This was our first holiday with Mickledore Walking (Hadrian's Wall Highlights) and we enjoyed it very much. Everything was very well organised in advance and we were able to do this interesting walk with just our day packs. The pickup service worked very well and we stayed in nice B & Bs and guesthouses throughout. We can highly recommend Mickledore Walking and are looking forward very much to our next walk booked with them.

We had chosen to walk the entire length, but to make it enjoyable decided to go for 9 days of walking. All the accomodation, baggage transfers each day and odd taxi pickups went according to plan. It gave us a memorable holiday and the bonus that Mickledore had ensured that our dog (red setter) was welcomed at all our stops, something I think that would have been impossible or at least very difficult it we had tried to book it ourselves. The daily mileage was well planned so we had plenty of time to enjoy the museums and scenery in the middle where the wall and countryside is most attractive. We were surprised by the number of people walking the wall, the most we have encountered on any route we've done, so BandB's must be at a premium in the height of the season. The map information supplied by Mickledore was great, especially a small book by Trailblazer whose annotated route drawings were so accurate they removed the need for any other map. Though to be fair to the Hadrian's Wall ranger service the wall is extremely well signed. Certainly extremely happy with Mickledore and would use them again without a doubt.

Rating for tour operator:

Mickledore responded quickly and efficiently to all the enquiries we had. Their planning was perfect, all fell into place and so gave us a really relaxing time. We did change some planned pick ups to be earlier and this was put in place again with no problems. All the staff and the places they booked were excellent.

walking holiday with Mickledore Travel

Lovely holiday - bed and breakfast venues were located in beautiful surroundings and a good standard of accommodation. The walks were delightful, despite the wet weather. I would certainly book another holiday in the future.

Holiday September 12th to 20th Our holiday with Mickledore walking the Northumberland coastal path was the first time we have been on a holiday like this. The organisation before we went was very detailed and the resources sent, book and maps, very comprehensive. We enjoyed the “unknown” of what our accommodation was like each night as we had deliberately not looked them up on-line beforehand. We enjoyed the reading of the next day’s walk each night giving ourselves a refresher over the very tasty and filling breakfasts we had at every stop. Of course we rated our accommodation, Fenham farm was outstanding and we loved the house at Warkworth but that does not mean the other places were unacceptable but someone has to win! We were surprised that at times the path seemed so unused and we were exploring un-walked territory. This was mainly where the official path went inland, across fields and woods so maybe this part was not so popular. The scenery along this route is stunning, the sandy beaches stretch for miles and we were lucky enough to see them with sunshine and blue skies and blue sea. We were proud of our walking achievements each day and we would definitely consider another walking holiday. Ruth and Tony Dillon

Walking the WHW was a great experience. With beautiful scenery, friendly people from around the world, excellent accommodation and food along the route, who needs to go abroad for a memorable holiday?

Mickledore are first class. The only thing they can't fix is the weather and even that was better than it might have been.

Mickledore Travel responded to this review on 29 Sep 2017:

You are absolutely right that you do not need to leave the UK to have a fabulous holiday, the West Highland Way is a spectacular route! We do our best with the weather but sometimes it just won't comply! We hope to welcome you back very soon.

Hiking the West Highland Way was the experience of a lifetime. It is challenging, but absolutely worth it. The scenery is spectacular and the towns along the way were truly enjoyable. We're looking forward to new and exciting trails throughout Scotland.

Travelling from Canada we are truely amazed by the ease of travel outside the bigger cities. To get to our starting point we flew to Manchester......a train right at the airport to York.....and a bus 1 block away to Helmsley .....and a one block walk to our guesthouse. Very smooth and the locals were very helpful. We stopped for just a moment in York to check our map and a busy businessman stopped to offer assstnace. All of our accommodations were wonderful. Hundreds use this trail every year and the hosts we stayed with understood that we may be wet and muddy......and wet boots were always returned dry and ready for the next day. The path travels thru peaceful and quiet landscapes ......the moors are amazing. Then you get to the coast and the scenery changes to busy villages and many day hikers.....all interesting to talk to. Great variety on this hike......nice blend of England.

Mickeldore has never let us down. Their website is wonderful......great information about the walk and helpful in deciding what is the right option for you. Booking online also easy to do. We phoned the company to pay the deposit and then the final payment ....you can avoid the credit card charges by doing this....thanks for that option. The other option we appreciate is the booking of prepaid packed lunches......and they were all wonderful. The staff has always been quick in replying to our e-mails and when on the phone have been very helpful and friendly. We had one question while on the walk and an e-mail back and forth answered our concerns.....and within hours. Thanks. Our packages arrived very quickly after final payment.....the maps and book were the best. Our accommodations were super.....a real mix of hotel, guesthouse and B&B. Sometimes we thought they were closer ones .....always wondering why we kept walking.....but after the stay in these marvellous places we were glad for the extra steps. Never disappointed. Highly recommend using our favourite operator.

A great experience walking Wainwright's Coast to Coast.

If you're into long distance walking, then this is for you. Varied terrain from St Bees to Robin Hood's Bay. From the Lake District, through the Yorkshire Dales over to the North York Moors, this is a great experience and very satisfying, especially when you finish!

Mickledore Holidays can't be recommended enough. They bent over backwards to make sure that I could stay in the same accommodation as my walking pals, even though I booked after them. They kept me informed of any changes and provided a good information pack.
