Rob Roy Way by Gadgies, 21 Jun 2017
Holiday Rating:

The Rob Roy Way, an 80 mile walk

Five of us, all in our 60's and 70's, chose to "do" the Rob Roy Way over six days walking. The walking is relatively easy, much of it on forest tracks and old railway lines, not a lot of climbing! We averaged 13 miles a day, sadly on two days in the rain, but that's Scotland for you. Most of the locals advised us to do the walk in May but we chose June.

We chose Mickledore of Keswick to organise our trip. They were very helpful, by phone and by email and we had no problems at all incompleting the bookings. The booklet giving accommodation details was spot on apart from one tiny error which did not affect our trip and the company was pleased when we pointed out the mistake. I would certainly use Mickledore again.

Mickledore Travel responded to this review on 21 Jun 2017:

I'm pleased to hear that you had a successful trip. Unfortunately the only thing we don't organise is the weather, but it all just adds to the Scottish experience! I hope you will give us the chance to book your next trip very soon.

Coast to Coast by Duffie, 21 Jun 2017

The only thing you have to do is walk

My husband and I have walked the C2C in May. We had a perfectly organized coast-to-coast holiday. We have greatly enjoyed the walk, as well as the variety of places where we stayed during the walks. We started in St Bees and had a rest day after 10 days of walking in Richmond at the Old Brewery. After the rest day we had another 6 days of walking. Mickledore had arranged a taxi on the last day to pick us up at Robin Hoods Bay, and took us back to Richmond were Mickledore had arranged a parking place for our car during the holiday. Admittedly, the walk was very challenging at some parts of the Lake District, because, The Netherlands doesn’t really do hills let alone fells, which makes practicing for us quite difficult. But once we were on the top, the view was spectacular (when it wasn't foggy) Overall we had a well organized holiday!

My husband and I have walked the C2C in May. Mickledore arranged all our accommodation, packed lunches on the walking days, and some of the dinner reservations (if there was only one restaurant in the village). They also arranged for our luggage to be transferred each day. They helped us with the transport to St Bees (from Richmond) and at the last day from Robin Hoods Bay back to the car at Richmond. After booking and planning where to stay on our rest day. Mickledore send a package filled with papers: Luggage tags, discount coupon for some shops, directions to our accommodation, diversions on the route, places to eat every evening, who to call, etc. And two waterproof maps and a book of the route. The only thing you had to do each day was getting your backpack and walk. We’ve now done not only C2C, but also Speyside, Great Glenn Way and Hadrian’s Wall, via Mickledore. And it was always perfectly arranged!

Walking the West Highland Way & A climb up Ben Nevis.

This is the second time i've used Mickledore Travel to arrange my walking holiday and everything went to plan. They booked my overnight accommodation, provided route maps, baggage transfer and even a packed lunch everyday if you required it. They also provide info on where you can get cash, toilets, food, doctors, taxis etc along the way. I had a very enjoyable holiday and walked with different people that i met along the way.

I've spoken to the staff at Mickledore over the phone and also called into their office in Keswick. They are all very friendly and knowledgeable because they've walked the routes themselves. Would highly recommend Mickledore Travel.

Coast to Coast walking with excellent back up

Rating for tour operator:

Mickledore provided the support for our 5 days of C2C. They exceeded our expectations. The pack of information that arrived prior to our departure was faultless; maps, details of how to find our B&B each night, taxi numbers etc. They replied promptly to our queries and we would have no hesitation in using them again for the next leg.

Mickledore Travel responded to this review on 21 Jun 2017:

Its great to hear that your first part of the Coast to Coast was successful and you found your holiday pack useful. We do put a lot of effort into making sure you have everything you need without having too much to carry. We look forward to arranging the next leg for you!

Northumberland Coast Path by Tbone, 16 Jun 2017
Holiday Rating:

Well organised from start to finish. A great walking experience!

My husband and I walked the Northumberland coastal path over 5 days. The weather was mixed but we thoroughly enjoyed it from start to finish. Taking in the breathtaking views and historic castles along the way. Mickledore arranged for our baggage to be moved on from place to place which meant that we could enjoy our days walking. All the B and Bs were great, obviously differing in style, but all the breakfasts and packed lunches were really good...

St Oswalds Way by Kath, 12 Jun 2017

Long walk to Lindisfarne

We walked from Bowness on Solway to Heavenfield on Hadrian's Wall, and then up St Oswald's Way, which starts at Heavenfield Inew Newcastle), to Lindisfarne. We had a rest-day at Rothbury - a small market town on St Oswald's way, and walked 12-19 miles a day. We chose West to East to avoid walking into the prevailing wind, but the wind chose to switch directions that week! We met lots of other walkers on Hadrian's wall including many from ...

We chose West to East to avoid walking into the prevailing wind, but the wind chose to switch directions that week! We met lots of other walkers on Hadrian's wall including many from the USA and Australia. St Oswald's way was very quiet though. our favourite section of Hadrian's Wall was where it follows the Whin Sill - it's practically intact there, and the Sycamore Gap is spectacular. St Oswald's way follows the Northumberland coast for miles - the beaches are beautiful and there were 4 castles. it was good to stay overnight on Lindisfarne as we were able to see it without the crowds. We got to the start by train to carlisle, and came home via Berwick station.

Rating for tour operator:

Our accommodation and baggage transfer were organised by Mickledore. Everything worked very smoothly and the accommodation - a mix of B&Bs and guest houses, and inns - was very good. All our hosts were very used to walkers; the rooms were comfortable, the food good and there were plenty of places to dry wet kit. The Baggage transfer worked without a hitch. Mickledore was able to accommodate our request to do 2 long-distance walks back-to-back and managed to find the twin rooms we'd asked for. The pre-holiday information was useful and the team responded to messages very promptly. We booked through Mickledore a couple of years ago, for another walk and chose them again because we'd had a good service. I would recommend them to anyone who wants a hassle-free trip.

Vale of Lorton Walk, 4--9 May 2017, Beautiful Scenery, Perfect Weather, A Great Walk

The Vale of Lorton Walk was perfect. We drove to Keswick, where we left the car for the duration of the walk, then completed a 'circular' walk in the north west Lake District. Rating for tour operator:

In 2016 a friend and I booked the Hadrian's Wall Walk with Mickledore and were impressed by their efficiency and the accommodation and information they provided. I therefore contacted Mickledore who were able to organise a walk this year and our accommodation and provide the necessary details at very short notice. As Mickledore, based in Keswick, specialises in walks in England, I feel confident that they can provide what they advertise.Their web site is very informative.

Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your experience - I'm pleased to hear that everything went well again. The Vale of Lorton is a very scenic walk and we have plenty more similarly beautiful walks on offer, which I hope you will be able to enjoy in the future.

Hadrian's Wall by John Stephens, 11 Jun 2017
Holiday Rating:

A Great Hadrian's Wall Walk.

After a week in London we walked the Hadrian's Wall Path from Newcastle to Bowness-on-Solway. This was a great experience. Each section of the walk had its own delights including the initial urban and industrial landscapes of Newcastle and the beautiful lonely landscapes of the Solway at the end of the path. Middle sections over country and the high crags was a tougher on the legs but a real scenery knockout. The heritage of the wall is amazing.

We used Mickledore Travel to organise a walk across England following Hadrian's Wall. The walk went smoothly with well chosen B&Bs, baggage transfer and map directions. This was a great experience and we were very appreciative of their efficient service. It was our second walking holiday in Britain and Mickledore did not disappoint. We would use this company again.
