April Sojourn on the South Downs Way (SDW)

Walked the SDW from Winchester to Eastbourne in seven days. Very fine walking weather, superb lodgings and great assistance and support by the hosts. Very well sign-posted, mildly challenging terrain and stunning vistas and views.

Rating for tour operator:

Mickeldore was very supportive and helpful - at one point, a pre-arranged lodging needed had to cancel, and Mickeldore emailed me with the substitute lodging and things were smooth as silk. They are my preferred tour operator for walking holidays in the UK, and I have recommended them to friends contemplating a walking holiday.

EXCELLENT THAMES PATH WALK

Just back from a walking holiday organised by Mickledore along the last section of the Thames Path. As ever, Mickledore organised a great holiday. The B&Bs were excellent and included this time a hotel just 60 seconds from the Royal Opera House. We loved it. We have one more section of the Thames left to do and then we will ...

Rating for tour operator:

We love Mickledore. We have had many walking holidays with them and all have been so well managed and have taken us to some new and exciting places as well as exploring places that are more familiar. Their website and booking process are so easy and whenever we have needed to chat to them they have always been there - cheerful, helpful and responsive. This year we are doing three walking holidays with them - that is a measure of our total belief in them and their holiday offerings. I would not risk an alternative walking company.

Hadrian's Wall Highlights

Myself, two brothers and a brother-in-law (all around the 60 mark) were walking Hadrian's Wall in memory of our late father who had always wanted to do it but never did. We had a great time with every type of weather imaginable (sun, rain, mist, snow, sleet and hail....but no thunder or lightning!) thrown at us every day. We had a great time with every type of weather imaginable (sun, rain, mist, snow, sleet and hail....but no thunder or lightning!) thrown at us every day. Fabulous experience with great scenery and lots of historical sites to visit (which we did). Would recommend Roman Army Museum and Vindolanda if you only wanted to do two of the many sites (we also did Housesteads, Chesters and Birdoswald). We stayed in 6 different B&Bs over 7 nights along the way (we had a rest day on what would have been our Dad's 86th birthday to explore Vindolanda) and averaged about 10-12 miles a day which was easily managed. B&Bs were all good and we ate out at some other places too for the evening meal.

Rating for tour operator:

Mickledore were great. Everything was very well organised and taxi and luggage transfers were seamless. Our accommodation ranged from 6/10 to 9/10 (most being 7 or 8 out of 10) but the food (breakfast, packed lunches and evening meals were all great as was the hospitality of our hosts). We had to change our holiday date (due to the pandemic) by almost a year and also the number of participants changed - Mickledore handled everything expertly and basically did everything for us. Would have been much harder attempting it ourselves. Finally, the amount of detailed information (itinerary, maps, guide books, where to eat/stay, what to do, how to travel etc) was first class and could not be faulted. Thanks Mickledore for making it such a successful holiday.

Wonderful variety!

Walking the Dales Way at the end of October could have been a bit risky, weather-wise! Yes, we had some rain but we also had sunshine, fabulous colours, superb views and free from crowds of people. It was well organised by Mickledore and the accommodation provided even more variety with B & Bs, a farmhouse and small country pubs.

West Highland Way by Taffy, 17 Nov 2021
Holiday Rating:

Superb attention to detail by Mickeldore led to a flawless and very enjoyable walking holiday along the West Highland Way.

96 miles trek the length of the West Highland Way, followed by a challenging climb to the top of a freezing cold, windy and rain-driven Ben Nevis. Rained for 5 out of the 8 day trek, so having superb overnight stays in hotels and BnBs was critical. Drying facilities were great, as was the hospitality and food along the way.

Rating for tour operator:

Mickeldore's staff delivered a flawless service throughout, including a "last minute" change of hotel in Kinglochleven due to a C-19 outbreak. All the changes were actioned seamlessly, including the movement of my overnight bag. An email and phone call confirming all had been actioned meant I was not in the least distracted or inconvenienced by the change.
