St Oswald's Way - an excellent walk along the Northumberland coast and across country to Hadrian's Wall

Setting off from the atmospheric island of Lindisfarne, the 97 mile walk follows the coast south to Warkworth and then heads inland to Rothbury before turning south to Hadrian's Wall. Setting off from the atmospheric island of Lindisfarne, the 97 mile walk follows the coast south to Warkworth and then heads inland to Rothbury before turning south to Hadrian's Wall. It's a varied itinerary and every day is a highlight. Part of the pleasure of walking was the anticipation of arriving at my accommodation and meeting my host at the end of the day. Each was different, all were high quality and some were amazing. And the breakfasts! Taxi transfers, where necessary, were well organised and drivers were happy to be flexible and fit in with my schedule. As a solo walker, I find it very reassuring to know that someone is looking out for me at the end of the day.

Rating for tour operator:

Mickledore cater for every eventuality and there is someone available if support is needed at any time. Their holiday package includes route guides and local information covering everything you might need from cash points to cafés on or near the route. Everything is on the app, so there's no need to carry paperwork. All I had to do was turn up and walk. This was my 8th holiday with Mickledore, I think that says it all.

Mickledore Travel responded to this review on 02 Jun 2022:

Thank you for your kind comments. It is lovely to hear that you enjoyed this route with the variety of scenery and terrain along the trail. It's great that the information in your holiday pack was also helpful.

We walked the WHW over 7 days with one rest Day at the fabulous Kings House in Glencoe surrounded by the majestic black mountains Our highlights were:- The views of Loch Lomond on top off a very blustery conic hill The exciting walk and scramble along the lock side with the most stunning views of the Loch Lomond and soaking our feet in icy cold water of the Loch. Walking along Rannoch moor and reaching the Spectacular Kings House surrounded by the most stunning mountainous scenery Sheer bliss !! Great views everywhere which got better & better as we progressed from the lowlands to the highlands. A great variety of terrain from Country lanes rocky paths Forrest paths Moorland ups and downs which we loved devils staircase and old military road. Loved having a new adventure every day and the lovely people we met along the way . The beautiful places where our B&B & hotel accommodations were. Loved all the places we stayed but especially Kinlochleven Kingshouse and Drymen The weather was very mixed from Heavy rain light rain drizzle and the occasional sunny spells. The rain didn’t spoil the holiday at all in fact it was very refreshing !! And made for photos with moody skies !! . Altogether a Superb Stunning Spectacular Westhighland Way holiday that will stay with us in our memories forever.

Our luggage having arrived each night before we did. Interesting places to visit close to or on the trail. Wharram Percy deserted medieval village, an archaeological dig on the edge of East Heslerton, Pocklington and Malton. Excellent holiday package from Mickledore with clear instructions for our self guided journey. The suggestion to use parking spaces to leave the car worked well. All the accommodation was happy to receive walkers and the taxi transfers were well planned from the route to the accommodation. Fortunately we were blessed with a dry week and did not have the inconvenience of having to dry out!

Rating for tour operator:

Mickledore have a well organised system in place from answering my questions before booking the holiday, the online booking system is clear and straight forward, the holiday package is thoroughly researched and up to date. They were at the end of a phone call if we had any issues.

St Cuthbert’s Way made easy

This was our first organised walking holiday. Mickledore booked the rooms, arranged packed lunches where possible and arranged for our baggage to be at the next stop. It all worked smoothly. The choice of places to stay overnight was good. I will certainly use Mickledore again.

A well organised adventure

14 days walking the 192 miles from St Bees to Robin Hoods Bay ( Coast to Coast), although quite challenging, the logistics of it were made so much easier by booking with Mickledore.

Mickledore were really understanding as this holiday was booked before covid, we were always given options of amending or cancelling throughout that time. Once the holiday went ahead, the information sent out, and the organisation of accommodation and luggage transfers were second to none, we would not hesitate to use them again.

Wonderful Scottish Highland walk

We had a beautiful 100 mile walk through the Scottish Highlands. As usual, Mickledore handled all the details perfectly. The accommodations were lovely, and the luggage was transferred without any problems. This was our fourth walking holiday with Mickledore, and we have more planned.

Rating for tour operator:

Everything was arranged by the tour operator, from accommodation to a comprehensive array of information concerning where to eat, draw money, get provisions, chemists etc etc. Also a detailed itinerary and map included in the cost of the holiday. Special commendation as Mickledore carried forward my booking originally made for spring 2020, first to 2021 and then 2022 when Covid conditions finally made it possible.

Walked Hadrian’s Wall as 5 friends celebrating our 50th birthdays on a 6 days walking and 7 nights accommodation package.

Rating for tour operator:

Booked Mickledore’s 6 days and 7 nights package and could not have asked for better service. The accommodation they chose was excellent, the bag haulier moved our cases between the properties and the packed lunches made life so much easier. The company provided a pack containing all the maps we needed, an itinerary, a list of useful stops along the way and discount vouchers. When one of our group realised that recent surgery might inhibit their ability to walk the full distance each day, Mickledore provided advice about using sticks, local bus routes and taxi numbers. It was simply a fantastic week.
