Excellent trip on the Yorkshire Wolds Way

It was a very enjoyable walking trip along the Yorkshire Wolds Way. One day wasn't completed due to extreme heat, but the accommodation provider collected me. The route is largely well sign posted, but there are a couple of points where reading the map or compass could be helpful. The terrain will be weather dependent but was very firm underfoot for me. Some woodland. A lot of agricultural land.

Rating for tour operator:

Very efficient. All accommodation stops were very good and some were excellent. Expect a mixture of country pubs, B&Bs and small hotels. My only suggestions to the operator are to write the number of miles per day in the trip booklet and to provide transfer if the location of night one is not as advertised.

Walking in the Yorkshire Dales

A wonderful walk through the Yorkshire Dales - covering parts of Swaledale and Wensleydale - visiting the market towns that the James Herriot (James Alfred Wight OBE FRCVS) would have travelled through - Aysgarth, Askrigg, Hawes, Keld Thwaite and Reeth to name a few. The route takes in 52 miles (83km) of travel over 4 - 5 days as required. Stunning views in all directions - a sight worth seeing. Would strongly recommend to anyone.

I have used Mickledore for several years now from Hadrian's Wall to Fort William to Inverness and parts of the Coastal Way. They have been faultless in their organisation and selection of B&B's along these various routes. I booked the Herriot Way walk just before COVID appeared and borders closed and they were kind enough to carry the booking forward till such time as the International Borders reopened to enable me to travel. They have also been very prompt in responding to requests via email. While they offer this quality of service I will continue to use.

Excellent walk on the Speyside Way in Scotland

We followed the Speyside Way from Buckie to Aviemore with two side spurs. One went from Craigellachie to Dufftown and back and the other followed the Tomintoul Spur from Tomintoul to Ballindalloch.

Thames Path Kemble to Oxford section - definitely to be recommended

Self guided 5 day walking trip along the river Thames from the river source at Kemble to the city of Oxford. We walked between hotels/inns along the route. All of the hotels were welcoming, friendly and very comfortable. Breakfasts were excellent everywhere and set us up for a day's walking ! We ate in each hotel in the evening and enjoyed all of those meals also. The route was well sign-posted and was easy to follow using the guidebook provided by Mickledore. The route went through different types of farmland and countryside with lots of pretty villages and river locks along the way. Some stretches of the path are remote so be prepared with drinks and picnics as you may not find anywhere suitable nearby to stop to eat and drink. It was interesting watching the river grow in size and the resultant changes in wildlife, flowers etc and the way more people were using it eg canoes, narrow boats etc. We would absolutely recommend this trip through Mickledore.

Rating for tour operator:

There was extensive information on the Mickledore website about the trip. The booking process was very easy online. We also called to discuss additional options and these were dealt with efficiently and quickly by the friendly and informative staff. Once confirmed the holiday pack arrived quickly by post. It contained detailed information about all of the places we would be staying, local information about places to eat/emergency contact info etc as well as a detailed guide book and map. The guide book was excellent and included detailed maps for each section of the route. All of the hotels were ready for us when we arrived and our luggage was transferred for us seamlessly between them. We had a slight issue on arrival at one hotel and called the Mickledore out of hours helpline which was answered very quickly and within 10 minutes had got things sorted out. We’re already thinking about our next trip with Mickledore.

Fantastic experience

My wife and I did the Cotswold Round walking holiday. We walked from village to village in the Cotswolds enjoying the views and what each village had to offer with each accommodation arranged by Mickledore and the transport of our luggage. It was my first walking holiday but my wife had used Mickledore on many a walking holiday.

Fantastic organisation providing details, maps, mobile apps all helping the walking holiday to go without any problems. They arranged all accommodation for every night, transporting our luggage safely and on time, and where necessary transport transfers for my wife and I. First class organisation, would not use anybody else.

First part of The Thames Path

We have had a wonderful holiday with almost perfect weather. Our last accommodation was in Oxford. We did book an extra night to visit Oxford. I can recommend that to everyone. All the accommodations were perfect and very close to the route. Only the accommodation in Oxford was a bit further away but it has a perfect location to visit Oxford.

Excellent week’s walk

We were able to enjoy a wonderful week’s walking around Yorkshire because the detail was planned so well by Mickledore. From hand-picking the excellent accommodation to arranging the efficient bag transport we really appreciated the thought which went into making this a perfect holiday.

Northumberland Coastal Path Walk

My elder brother and I travelled 300miles north to stay in Morpeth, Northumberland for our first night's stay. The following day we began a 6-day walking adventure at the start of the Northumberland Coastal Path, from Cresswell, and we walked the 62-mile route to Berwick-upon-Tweed, with a stop-over day at Fenwick to visit Lindisfarne (or Holy Island).

I have used Mickledore Travel in the past when organising the Coast-to-Coast (St.Bees Head to Robin Hood's Bay) a few years ago. I am always impressed by the standard of accommodation they manage to arrange and for the meticulous planning and information that they provide, from walking maps and guide books, to general information regarding shops, bars, cafes, doctors, toilets and other essentials along the route. The onward transportation of our luggage is always first rate with no mistakes made on either trip. They were brilliant from start to finish.
