The way to go on the Cotswold Way

After a covid-inflicted delay of two years, three friends and I finally walked the southern half of the Cotswold Way in May 2022. Our walk through pastures, woods, up and down hills, fields, and quaint villages was simply delightful. It was a wonderful introduction to walks in England. Having spectacular weather was an unexpected but appreciated bonus. We booked through Mickledore upon recommendation of a friend and were very pleased with their service. They arranged our accommodations, luggage transfers, and transportation when required. In addition to supplying maps and guide books, information Mickledore provided on each village's amenities was often more useful than the tour books we had consulted.

Rating for tour operator:

As the group leader, I was the point person for communicating with Mickledore and all communication was done via email. They were consistently prompt in responding to emails, and it was helpful that each member of our party was able to pay fees individually via the secure website. The terms and conditions were clearly stated and reasonable. Our holiday pack was received well before our departure to the UK. One member of our party had to cancel two weeks before our holiday began, and she was provided a timely refund in accordance with the terms outlined in the terms and conditions. We originally booked this trip for spring 2020. Mickledore was in frequent communication during that time of uncertainty when it wasn't clear if our holiday would go ahead. As it became apparent that our holiday would be a casualty of the pandemic, Mickledore initiated the process of canceling our holiday. Given the circumstances, I was impressed with how Mickledore handled the cancelation, and how quickly we received our refunds. It certainly inspired confidence to book with Mickledore again.

Logistics couldn't have been easier

I completed the Cleveland Way trip with Mickledore Travel in May 2022. I chose the 11-day walk because I had plenty of time and didn't want to rush through such beautiful countryside. The trip started in Helmsley and meandered through some beautiful forestland, farmland, and small towns before reaching the coast at Saltburn-by-the-Sea. The next several days were on a trail by the ocean that was absolutely breathtaking. I didn't want the trip the end...

I was pleasantly surprised by how easy the entire experience was. The lodges Mickledore booked exceeded my expectations, the breakfasts were great, and the baggage transfer service couldn't have been better. I appreciated the hard copies of all of the information, but honestly mostly just used the Mickledore app, which came in very handy during the walk.

Thanks for your feedback. I am delighted that you found our App helpful during your walk and that your holiday experience exceeded expectation.

South Downs Way by Furlongs, 7 Jun 2022

Mickledore Travel carries all worries as well as luggage.

The big reveal about walking the South Downs Way for us was the sheer expanse of open land and clear air in Southern England. It is easy to become accustomed to just thinking that being jammed in roads, stalled on trains, and scared to death on bicycles puts the South of England off limits for countryside euphoria. Far from it with this Mickledore supported route which took us through beautiful woods, banks of wild garlic, stupendous miles of views from the Downs both North and South. It was mid May and it was Magical.

Rating for tour operator:

Mickledore Travel are scrupulous in customer care from initial enquiry to getting an evaluation at the end of the journey. I had a broken tooth early on in our Coast to Coast walk last September. Mickledore told us of the nearest dentist and were telephone available which is SO necessary when one is travelling in upland areas. We see no reason to use any other company because all aspects of the walking journey are thought through from start to finish.

Thanks for your great feedback and kind comments. I am delighted that you enjoyed your holiday without incident this year and that the stunning views were quite captivating for you.

Fabulous Cotswold Way walk

The stars aligned to give us a most perfect holiday. Mickledore's planned for us a remarkable holiday. While we walked the beautiful countryside (which was in full bloom when we walked), we didn't have to worry that our bags would be at the next B&B when we arrived and that we would have a cozy bed and a warm meal. We had a wonderful holiday and the memories will last a lifetime.

Mickledore's worked with us during difficult circumstances. Covid shutdowns required our first booking to be cancelled. This was a great disappointment but we were assured our monies were safe because Mickledore is bonded through ABTA. They were responsive in rebooking us and everything went flawlessly. They answered emails quickly and the materials they provide (packet, app, resources, etc) gave us all we needed to have a wonderful trip.

Best of Hadrian's Wall - May 2022

Best of Hadrian's Wall, from Corbridge to Bowness on Solway, was a trickier challenge than either of us thought it would be. Challenging at times, both mentally and physically. Got more enjoyable as we went along. So we'll organised which took all the worry away from us!

Best of Hadrian's Wall, from Corbridge to Bowness on Solway, was the first ever walking holiday I've booked with Mickledore and won't be the last. All the pre holiday communications were just right in number and any queries I had were answered quickly. The attention to all details of the holiday were spot on and we had no worries about anything at all (apart from my ability to finish the walk when it got a bit hairy!) A great experience, thanks Mickledore!

Walking the beautiful Gower Peninsular

We booked a 5 day/6 night walking holiday of the Gower Peninsular which was faultlessly arranged for us by Mickledore Travel. The B&B,s could not be faulted, The taxi transfers with Mike's Taxis worked like clockwork which made for a really good, sometimes hard, walking holiday. Also, as an added benefit, it didn't even rain!

Marvellous Mickledore

We had a 14 day self guided walking holiday in northern England. We were lucky with the weather but these can be physically tiring holidays and you need all the rather complex arrangements of having different accommodation every night and baggage transfers to go right. Mickledore's arrangements all worked well and they were on hand when anything went awry.

Cotswold Way Walk - Wonderful!

We walked from Chipping Campden to Painswick in seven days in early May 2022. Because we requested a walking holiday with certain distances per day, Mickledore arranged accommodations in locations accordingly. The four B&Bs we stayed at - Cornerways, Chipping Campden; Shenberrow Hill, Stanton; Cleeve Hill House Hotel, Cleeve Hill; and Troy House, Painswick - were lovely and comfortable in all respects. The four B&Bs we stayed at - Cornerways, Chipping Campden; Shenberrow Hill, Stanton; Cleeve Hill House Hotel, Cleeve Hill; and Troy House, Painswick - were lovely and comfortable in all respects. The room at Wesley House in Winchcombe was very small but the staff were so warm and helpful, and the breakfast was excellent. The London Inn in Charlton Kings was acceptable, but not on the same level as the B&Bs - but how could it be? The Royal George George Hotel in Birdlip was the only option; it was satisfactory as a mid-size hotel. We did appreciate the fact that after a ten-mile walk we could enjoy the bar and dining without leaving the premises. And the food was good at both dinner and breakfast.

I used Mickledore a few years ago for my Hadrian's Wall Path holiday. They are organized, professional and leave out no details. Communication throughout the COVID period - postponing, rescheduling, updating - was always reliable and friendly, regardless of who was assigned to my holiday. I highly recommend them.

Minimally organized American successfully completes Hadrian's wall walk due to your company's thoroughness

I arrived in Corbridge certain in my ability to meet the physical demands of a walking holiday, but having done little research into the area or accommodations. Every bed and breakfast accommodation was well situated, many were absolutely lovely. Meals were delicious and pubs we're welcoming to walkers. The trail was exquisite in many places, particularly the middle section.
