Life transforming experience

My wife and I are pastors in Washington State in the USA and were awarded a sabbatical for the summer of 2022. We wanted an adventure that was also relaxing and would give us proper space to reflect and pray. We found Mickledore online and, on perusing their walks, decided to combine portions of the Cumbria Way and Hadrian's Wall walks on their advice. The experience was nothing short of amazing! Mickledore's advice about how to organize the holiday was perfect and surprisingly affordable even for persons with a fairly modest income. The hospitality they arranged along our route blew us away and the sights we saw perfectly achieved our goals for the trip. Before the walk was even half begun we were talking about how we had to do this again and bring our kids once they're older! Will do this again.

Rating for tour operator:

Mickledore arranged everything perfectly and were so easy and helpful in all communication, both when setting up the holiday and when actually on it. Their advice was particularly spot-on -- they helped us set up a custom walk combining portions of two others for an amazing experience.

Yorkshire Wolds Way with Mickledore

This was our second self-guided walking holiday with Mickledore and once again it was superbly organised. We spent 7 days (cut short by 1 day because of the rail strike) walking the Yorkshire Wolds Way through a wonderfully unspoilt landscape. We stayed in a wide variety of well-chosen accommodation. As the Way is surprisingly remote, taxi transfers were efficiently organised to most of the accommodation. Mickledore even arranged another ...

Walking the coast to coast - a longtime ambition finally fulfilled

I've always wanted to walk Wainright's coast to coast route but could only afford the time after finishing work so it was great to undertake this walk at long last. It's everything it's cracked up to be and unsurprising that it attracts visitors from across the world. I've always wanted to walk Wainright's coast to coast route but could only afford the time after finishing work so it was great to undertake this walk at long last. It's everything it's cracked up to be and unsurprising that it attracts visitors from across the world. It is quite a challenge and you do have to prepare for it in advance but what might seem quite daunting before you begin quickly starts to feel pretty manageable. I have to say that the weather helped me - not many "C2C" walkers can claim to have covered the whole route and encountered less than an hour's rain and that on the final approach to Robin Hood's Bay! It's provided me with some great memories and an incentive to take on other great walks.

Rating for tour operator:

I've undertaken several walking holidays organised by Mickledore before but always no longer than a week but the coast to coast walk was going to be two weeks. Mickledore advised me on the best time to book, organised all my accommodation and the daily transfer of my luggage. The holiday was everything I expected, and all the arrangements worked pretty much exactly as planned thanks to Mickledore's friendly and efficient service. The only reason I had to contact them was to make a contingency plan at quite short notice for getting home in the event of a rail strike and they even managed to do this for me. I will definitely look to use them whem planning my next walking holiday.

As we were travelling in from Norway, we were adviced to seek help to book train tickets in advance and we were sent a link to a dedicated e-mail address with Gates Travel who were a tremendous help with the train jouneys! Everything worked smoothly :) When travelling with Mickledore, we are never concerned about the standard of where we are to stay. They always pick B&Bs, inns and small hotels with immaculate standard. We throughly enjoyed our walk from St Ives to Penzance - the weather was mainly kind to us, except for one VERY wet afternoon. The trail was the hardest route we have walked with Mickledore, but the coastal scenery in Cornwall was outstanding!

There is no other word to describe Mickledore than EXCELLENT in all manners and forms, before, during and after our holiday :)

Wonderful relaxing walking holiday

Isle of Wight coast path is an easy walking holiday. Its the most relaxed long distance walk I've done with time for sightseeing. All the accommodation was excellent and great weather too.

Wide skies and roaring waves

I walked from St.Ives to Penzance along the South West Coast Path. Went through villages like Zennor,Pendeen,St,Just,Sennen,Porthcurno Mousehole and Newlyn. The path takes you out on the cliffedges, steep up and downs through gorse and wildflowers. You see a lot of seabirds and sunbathing seals resting on the beaches.

Easy walking along the Thames.

In 2019 we walked in five days from the Source to Oxford and this year from Oxford to Henley in sunny weather. It is great to walk through the meadows, sometimes woodland, pretty towns, old churches and all those locks with kind volunteers. The accommodations and restaurants were quite good and with the lovely English ambiance.

Great Glen Way by Jnet, 27 Jun 2022

Another fantastic holiday thanks to Mickeldore

Our most recent Mickeldore holiday was a walking holiday following the Great Glen Way from Fort William to Inverness. A fantastic route through the Scottish Highlands from the West coast to the East. Mickeldore booked us into various B and Bs, guesthouses and hotels along the way and arranged baggage transfer. This meant we could enjoy our daily walk with a light rucksack, which, most days, contained a delicious packed lunch provided by our hosts...

Once again we were massively impressed by the standard of accommodation booked for us. The travel pack provided by Mickeldore included not only excellent route information and maps but also all the info we needed about local services at each of our stopovers. We have enjoyed three Mickeldore walking holidays …..so far. We will be back !

Everything went according to plan

My friend and I walked the Cleveland Way in May. We booked through Mickledore as they offered the best itinerary for us. Everything was booked for us, all we had to do was walk. Almost all of the accommodation was excellent, only one or two little niggles.

Lady Annes Way by Roly, 23 Jun 2022

An enjoyable and interesting walk.

I walked a route called “Lady Anne’s Way” one of the lesser known long distance paths in England. I walked for 8 days through the Yorkshire dales and the Eden valley. Accommodation and baggage transfer were all perfectly arranged by Mickledore Travel.

Rating for tour operator:

They are an excellent company who organise walking holidays. They can arrange all aspects of your holiday from guide books and maps, booking accommodation and packed lunches and arranging baggage transfer between stops. They are very flexible in offering as much or as little of these services that you require. This is the fourth time I have used them and the have always been excellent.
