Grand Tour of Scotland by Rail

We had a wonderful travel experience throughout Scotland. The weather was fabulous, our accommodation and hosts were all excellent, and traveling by train was an stress-free way to see the country. McKinley Kidd did an excellent job of coordinating every aspect of the trip, right down to a minor glitch our last day of travel. I would highly recommend using their expertise.

We are delighted that you enjoyed this example of our self-guided trips, which have been popular options for many years.

Touring the Scottish Highlands by rail

Our first time in Scotland and we decided not to drive and instead took the railway tour. Was very happy with McKinley kids selection of accommodations extra tours and overall area of Scotland.

I started with a Victoria but Lucy helped us during her actual tour with a couple of glitches. Very happy they answered lots of questions and I felt prepared and ready to go ahead of time

Wild Life and Wildlife

A week on Lewis and Harris. The Callanais stones, a Blackhouse village and a ruined Broch. Golden eagles, a school of dolphins and much more. A storm cancelled a trip out to Kilda but provided some spectacular waves

Grand Tour of Scotland by Train

The 14 day tour captured the key gems of Scotland incorporating a number of islands - Isle of Staffa, Iona, Mull, Skye and Orkney. The tour was comprehensive and well balanced from a time perspective underpinned by quality organisation, research, accommodation and content including back up plans in the event of adverse weather.

Amazing journey through the Wild Atlantic Way

Our independent tour by train was spectacular. We explored Kinsale, Killarney, Ennis, Galway and Dublin. Every town was unique and had it's own charm. Every hotel and tour exceeded our expectations.

An Overall Wonderful Experience

Everything about the trip we took, Far North Line to Orkney, met or exceeded our expectations. The seamless travel process (a combination of ferries, trains, small tour bus, and taxis) made everthing stress-free. The accommodations were all lovely and well appointed. The local tours were fun and informative. The tips for exploring the various locations and finding restaurants were very helpful. Even the weather cooperated - unseasonably warm ...
