Rail trip of the Scottish highlands and Skye

This was a personalized unescorted rail tour from Edinburgh to Glasgow with stops at Pitlochry, Inverness, Portree (Isle of Skye) and Spean Bridge (Fort William). The scenery is outstanding and the train is possibly the best way to see it. McKinlay Kidd did an excellent job of selecting accomodations and arranging all the transfers etc. Of the accomadations they chose I would especially recommend Moyness House in Inverness for its host and ...

McKinlay Kidd were extremely good in arranging a trip tailored to our requirements. They even went out of their way to accomodate the fact that our tour was part of an extended trip including arranging for our train tickets to be delivered to a hotel that they had not arranged for us then following up via email to ensure that we had received everything.

See the Orkneys differently

The tour was titled "See Orkney Differently" and that is exactly what we did. In the seven days we did three islands and had three all-day tours covering neolithic sites, nature, scenery, history etc. The tours were well organised and extremely interesting. On Westray we visited a site where an archaeological dig was taking place. The rest of the time was our own to explore. A great holiday!

Super and unexpected view into Island life

Extremely well organised and coherent glimpse into island life. Good accommodation and well thought out tours. Archaeology amazing and well informed guides - we were very privileged to be able to talk to on site archaeologists who gave up their precious time to talk to us. wildlife amazing - what else could we say!

Can't find a fault - coped well with flight cancellations at the last minute and organised taxis and onward transport including ferries and transport from the port. Brilliant !

The Beautiful West Highland Railway

We were amazed by the beauty of the scenery on our West Highland Railway journey. The Isle of Skye was also a wonderful experience.

We were delivered exactly what we asked for

We had a touring holiday for a first-time visit to the Hebrides, by way of Skye and ending in the North-West of Scotland with which we were already familiar. All of the accommodation was first class and the ferry trips were totally efficient and pleasant.

short break in western Highlands

This was a short excursion to celebrate a birthday. The focal point was a return journey on the steam train from Fort William to Mallaig. The hotel we stayed in was comfortable and pleasant and the food was locally sourced, mainly organic and delicious. The location was stunning.

Very helpful and accommodating. Some of the travel plans were arranged by ourselves to allow for a possibly delayed flight, but McKinlay Kidd organised the hotel and the train and we were delighted with both

Our farthest holiday in the UK, we have been back thousands of years.

Our last big UK holiday was really worth doing as a fly drive. The arrangements worked fine and the hotels and car hire chosen by McKinlay Kidd were really good. With hindsight we would have looked more closely at the flight times and possibly opted for different timings. Having said this all worked well with only one delay caused by bad weather and the flight crew kept us informed of events. This was a holiday experience that will remain long ...

With hindsight we would have looked more closely at the flight times and possibly opted for different timings. Having said this all worked well with only one delay caused by bad weather and the flight crew kept us informed of events. This was a holiday experience that will remain long in the memory, the vouchers provided by McKinlay Kidd added to the options we took and were very welcome. Would definately recommend McKinlay Kidd to any one thinking of visiting the outer reaches of the British Isles or a special interest holiday.

The Road Less Travelled- The Wild Atlantic Way

The holiday was the Wild Atlantic Way in Ireland. It started in Kinsale and Baltimore, but the scenery improved when I arrived at Mizen Head and then crossed the border into County Kerry. I would have preferred to spend longer in County Kerry.

McKinlay Kidd find small out-of-the-way accommodation; e.g. the last Guest House of the holiday had wonderful views over the Atlantic and Brandon Mountain. the staff were very welcoming and I was told that Robert McKinlay had taken his mother to vet the accommodation and they were very thorough in their inspection.

We caught the ferry as foot passengers, and were collected by Westray in their minibus. The tour they organised was brilliant. We saw puffins, sea birds, wildflowers, archaeology from Neolithic to 16th century, all explained by Karen and Andy, who also have a deep local knowledge and some great stories. A lunch of local produce was also provided. Westray is Orkney in miniature, and this tour gave an excellent coverage of all, there is to enjoy.
