Amazing Journey through The Western Isles

Having never visited the Western Isles before and not really knowing what to expect we booked this trip with an open mind. We were not disappointed and it surpassed all our expectations. We started off in Oban to Barra, then North and South Uist, Harris and Lewis and finally Skye. All the islands are different but beautiful in their own way.. Barra, Harris and Lewis were my favourite. The beaches are stunning, even on a cloudy day and the food exceptional. If you enjoy shellfish and fish you cannot get any better than what is served on these islands.. Accommodation also was very good. I have to mention Broadway House which is run by Tom and Sue Reid on Lewis which was outstanding. A wonderful holiday and would definitely go again.

I found McKinlay Kidd on the internet and they were excellent. Very knowledgeable, helpful, professional and supplied a wonderful app full of suggestions, restaurants, walks, drives etc. They organised everything from accommodation to ferries and it all ran like clockwork. First rate.

Outer Hebrides welcome

Enjoyed the friendly people, the beaches and scallops! High winds led to one cancelled ferry, but that just meant we shared the 'normal' experiences of islanders

Dealt with the changes required due to the cancelled ferries in an exemplary manner. Changed what could have been a real hassle into a minor irritation.

Trains, Whisky, Gorgeous Scenery

I chose the West Highlands and Skye itinerary. Maps, brochures, all the details and most important my train and ferry tickets were delivered to my hotel the night before. The McKinlay-Kidd folks acted as a skilled concierge, arranging everything, so that this novice solo traveler had no problem with taxis ferries, trains, hotels and the lovely tour of Skye! And the highlands by train was spectacular! I enjoyed great food and drink, friendly hosts...

Fabulous!

We had a wonder driving tour of Scotland. McKinley Kidd arranged great accommodations with lovely hosts. The country is stunningly beautiful. Our biggest surprise was the consistently delicious food; Hotels, pubs, and even tourist sites had great food at very good prices.

What began with an inquiry for a train tour evolved into a lovely drive tour touching on the many, many places we wanted to see. A challenge, but well executed.

Well-planned train trip

Booked a one-week rail trip in Scotland that combined independent travel with planned transportation and accommodation. Thoroughly enjoyed the trip and saw a good cross-section of Scotland.

Scotland is Stunning! Our self-drive holiday was unforgettable!

Thirteen days, over 800 miles, salmon, salmon, salmon, oysters, muscles, tons of hiking and embracing the beauty of this gorgeous country. McKinley-Kidd coordinated everything for us. Highly detailed, great recommendations of things to see and do along the way. Driving directions were very helpful. The hotels and B&Bs they selected were excellent. We could never have done this in our own and had such great success. Tom was our coordinator and he was fantastic!!

Stunning road trip across the Outer Hebrides - a holiday to remember!

Starting with the ferry from Oban, we sailed to Barra (rough crossing) then over six days sailed and drove our way across South and North Uist, Harris and Lewis and finally sailed back from Stornoway to Ullapool (smooth crossing). The scenery was absolutely stunning, the beaches out of this world and the locals extremely friendly and welcoming. The weather was very changeable, but this is exactly what you expect in Scotland. They got everything just right - the accommodation, the car hire and the boats. We got lots of very good advice of where to visit. They organized everything and took the stress out of all the preparation work for us. In addition to this, they spent a whole evening trying (and didn't give up til they got us) to get in touch with us to tell us our ferry was leaving three hours early the next day! I have already recommended them to friends!

We decided to have a short break to take in as much of the outer Hebrides as possible and left everything in the hands of or tour operator to book accommodation and travel arrangements and tickets for all passages. We were not disappointed and the details were perfect and most suited to our needs, We had 4 ferry crossings and all went without a hitch, the accommodations were all different but excellent in their own style and the welcome at each could not have been more warmly, from the information given on each prior to our departure they were exactly as expected and we thoroughly enjoyed the stay at each. The cuisine at each venue was outstanding and we were absolutely blow away by the quality of the food on offer as well as the presentation. The good weather undoubtedly played a big part in the enjoyment of our holiday but the views were stunning and it may be that even in poorer weather we would have discovered different views and light conditions. We have travelled abroad over many years to many different locations and were a little concerned that the Hebrides may not equal some of those locations but nothing could be farther from the truth.

Rating for tour operator:

It was as if your daughter or son was making the arrangements for you and no requirement seemed to be difficult for them, they certainly went out of their way to assist with every detail and we will certainly be using them again and have encouraged our friends to do so also. You were kept informed throughout the whole process of booking and after booking prior to departure and given regular updates. The information given and detail was second to none we have experienced.
