The planning of the itinerary, communication, coordination of accommodation, flights, car hire, ferries was very well done. The presentation of the trip on an app made keeping track of our trip very easy. Communication with the tour operator during the trip was easy and prompt.

Brilliantly organized. We told McKinley Kidd what we wanted and they did the hard work. The best guides the best accommodation and, amazingly, the best weather !

Magical Holiday

McKinlay Kidd organised a 10 day holiday with 5 different stays ranging from a small B&B to a grand hotel so we could tour the Outer Hebrides. The organisation of the holiday was first class, faultless. All the accommodation was of the highest standard with a warm welcome everywhere. The travel hints such as where to eat and what to see was a Godsend. They advised us to book the nominated restaurants before we travelled which we did. When we got there they were fully booked. The highlight of the trip was a visit to St Kilda, reserved by MKK. The boat company texted us to confirm the trip was on, so we just had to turn up. The time of one ferry was changed and again MKK phoned us to make us aware of the alteration. Overall we were delighted with the service and would certainly use them again.

Exquisite scenery, extraordinary hospitality

We started in Edinburgh and then took the train to beautiful Pitlochery where we took long quiet walks to to salmon ladders, historic distilleries and enjoyed a bagpipe parade. Inverness offered picturesque walks along the River Ness and fine dining. We enjoyed the excellent museum at Colloden Battlefield and we enjoyed unique used book store. From Inverness we traveled to Kyle of Lochalsh where we rented a car to travel to Isle if Skye. Though the weather was wet we enjoyed a hike to Old Man of Storr and enjoyed a wonderful dinner at Three Chimneys. From Skye we took the ferry from Armadale to Mallaig and picked up the Jacobite steam train to Ft. Williams. Breathtaking scenery the entire route. We enjoyed a lovely evening at Spaen Bridge and then finished our trip from Spaen Bridge to Glasgow. All of our accomodations were top notch and the meals were wonderful.

An amazing classic tour of Scotland, where all the arrangements went smoothly.

We went on a classic tour of Scotland, organised by McKinlay Kidd, which was from Glasgow to Spean Bridge, then over to Skye and on to Inverness, Pitlochry and Edinburgh. We travelled by train, except for cars and a ferry crossing and journeyed for over 800 miles and stayed in six hotels, all organised from start to finish by McKinlay Kidd. All the arrangements went without any problems, the hotels we stayed in were all of high standards and the places we saw were very interesting. We had time between getting trains to make our own arrangements for looking around the various places we stayed in, which was also very good. It was a very scenic tour and the views from the trains were amazing. When we arrived at any station, a driver in a very nice car, was always there to meet us. The car always returned well before time when we had to get the next train. We were delighted with all the arrangements and have nothing but praise for the tour.

Rating for tour operator:

The advisor I spoke to tweaked the arrangements to accommodate the chronic back pain which I suffer from, as I needed to have comfortable accommodation. We were sent all the details and how to get the tickets in plenty of time before we set out and all the hotels, trains, cars and ferry journeys were booked ahead of time. As we do not know Scotland at all, this was ideal and would have taken ages if we had to book train tickets ourselves.

Trip along the Outer Hebrides

We sailed from Oban to Barra. Then with overnight stays of two nights at Castlebay, Lochmaddy and Finsbay, we sailed back to the mainland from Stornoway. So we saw all the main islands of the Outer Hebrides

They kept me informed at all times. They were exceptionally good to arrange other accommodation when one of the original overnight stays had overbooked.

We started in Edinburgh and ended in Glasgow, with stops in Pitlochery, Inverness, Isle of Skye (our personal favorite) and then a relaxing stay in Spean Bridge for our final night. If you want to get a taste of the Highlands with some self paced touring without the worry, this is the way to go! The app was very helpful with telling us exactly what we needed to know and when.

Rating for tour operator:

Chris at McKinlay (and others who helped) were professional, helpful, friendly and answered our questions in a timely manner. This whole experience was relatively worry-free for us as the details were taken care of... our train tickets were ready for us, each B&B was aware of our coming there, taxis meeting us at our train, etc. I'll definitely look to McKinlay Kidd when we plan our next trip to that area and am telling all our friends!

Scottish island hopping

It was special from start to finish with even the Scottish weather being very kind to us. Met lots of friendly people, each island was very different. Also saw so much wildlife.
