Great time in Orkney and Shetland
3 nights in Orkney at the fabulous Storehouse in Kirkwall. The food there was better than the meal we had at a highly rated restaurant.Great day out on Papa Westray with the wonderful Jonathan as our guide. The sunshine for Bressay Parkrun on Saturday was a bonus. Brian and Marie’s seabird boat trip was brilliant. Loganair we’re brilliant when (during a UK-wide heat-wave) thick fog meant our flight home from Sumburgh was cancelled.

Really helpful. Sent loads of useful info. Even rang me when they realised I hadn’t completed the car-hire form.

A memorable Scottish experience
If you want to see the West Highlands and Islands by train this is the way to do it. With an experienced and informative guide it is a wonderful way to see many things in 6 days. First class accommodation throughout and visits to Mull, Iona and Staffa as well as gardens and castles.

Tour details are not communicated until two weeks before departure. Most of the time, you are on your own to find things to do, and ways to get there. There are some pre-planned experiences arranged by the tour operator. But, largely, you are on your own. In our case we were given incorrect start times for some of the experiences, and incorrect ticket information for the train trips. This was a very poorly executed tour for us.
Dear Mr Condon
I am pleased that you enjoyed your holiday in Ireland overall but I am of course very sorry that you felt our service was lacking in some aspects. The trip you booked was one of our very popular self-guided train tours, where indeed you have the freedom of an independent holiday, using public transport, but with travel, accommodation and experiences pre-booked for you. We have offered this combination for many years and feedback is generally excellent.
I regret that there was an error on our part with one booking reference, and that the train staff who should have been able to help were reluctant to do so. This was a genuine human error, for which I have apologised in person to you. We have also provided a refund for your party for that particular journey.
As can be seen from the very large number of positive reviews on this website, this type of error is very rare but I appreciate the frustration it caused at the time. When we spoke following your trip you did confirm that you had enjoyed your visit to Ireland overall. Thank you for your honest feedback, which we have fully taken on board

Highlands and Orkney
We had a 16 day holiday beginning in Glasgow, renting a car and driving first to Inverness and then on to Thurso before taking the ferry from Scrabster to Stromness. We stayed five days in the Orkneys, with vists to the main archeological and historical sites, as well wandering on beaches and footpaths! This is our second holiday booked through McKinlay Kidd. Our first was in 2014 which included Mull and Iona, the Outer Hebrides and the Isle of Skye. On both occasions our experience has been excellent. Accomodations and ferry crossings organized very seamlessly, including this summer when there was an emergency change of ferry departure due to a ferry cancellation. McKinlay Kidd rebooked us and found us an extra night accommodation. MKK is easy to communicate with via email, and our questions have always been answered promptly.

Outstanding wildlife holiday to the Isle of Mull
In the short time of 5 days, we saw: Otters, Minke Whales, Dolphins, Puffins, Golden Eagles, White Tailed Eagles and more. The trip was organised efficiently and our dedicated holiday support team were very happy to answer all of my many questions

Fantastic holiday itinerary with amazing hotels and locations. Travelling by train through Scotland and staying at some of the most luxurious and beautiful places we have ever been to exceeded our expectations. With McKinlay Kidd working hard in the background they made this trip come off seamlessly even through the Scott rail strike.

Malvina went above and beyond to arrange my itinerary, even rebooking the entire holiday when I said I would like to go to St. Kildas. She was also a reassuring voice on the phone whilst on holiday, during a time of ferry disruption. I felt at all times that I was in safe hands. Thank you Malvina!

Scotland's West Coast 500 Road Trip - The Certainty of Adventure in uncertain times
Our driving holiday was well organised every step of the way. They tailor made the holiday for us, taking into account our interests - walking, sightseeing, seafood and culture. We had peace of mind and a number to contact 24 hours a day if we had a problem. For us all went to plan no hitches.
