A Brilliant Grand Rail Tour of Scotland
From the 27 Aug to the 12 of Sep, my wife, Karen and I toured Scotland by rail on a tour organised by the superstars at McKinley Kidd. It was outstanding! The organisation, the accommodation, tours and information were first class! We cannot recommend this tour highly enough!

Scotland felt like home
I don't know that I have the words to adequately describe how much I enjoyed my trip to Scotland. It was my first visit to Scotland and I was awed and amazed and just generally thrilled with Glasgow, Fort Augustus, and Skye. I started in Glasgow a few days prior to the start of the official tour. In Glasgow, I walked and I biked and I saw a show. Loved that city. We stayed in Fort Augustus on the shore of Loch Ness., we rode the Jacobite Steam Train, through Glenfinnan and past Loch Shiel, went to Skye, and then to Inverness for an overnight stop before going to Edinburgh where our tour ended. I stayed a couple of days after the tour ended, one on a road trip to Stirling and Loch Lomond (and the Kelpies!!). My last day was spent exploring Edinburgh. I must have taken close to 1000 pictures (I put most, not all, of them in an album in my Google account and when I was done, I had 850 pictures in it). I can't think of a single thing I'd have done differently, except maybe spend more time, because I needed more.

McKinlay Kidd was professional and patient with me (a neophyte traveler). The phone operators were friendly and personable and happy to take my payments because the online option kept resulting in me getting "Possible Fraud" warnings from my bank. In addition, when I decided, after I'd already made my down payment, that I'd like an extra night in Edinburgh at the end of my trip, McKiinlay Kidd was great about making that happen. The hotels were fabulous, our guide was fabulous, and our bus drivers were great (which shows that McKinlay Kidd has some great business associates). If I'm ever lucky enough to return to Scotland, I will defintely be contacting McKinlay Kidd again.

McKinlay-Kidd Highland Castles and Whisky by Train
Absolutely amazing from start to finish! A couple of tiny hiccups, but they were there for us and kept us informed.

A First Class Scottish holiday
I can certainly recommend the West Highland and Iona holiday. Excellent hotels, Scottish hospitality, food and scenery. The holiday included travelling by train and coach, visiting various memorable places, including Kilmartin standing stones, Commando memorial, Prince Charles Edward Stuart statue, Glen Coe, Armaddy Castle Gardens and especially St Colomba Abbey on Iona. We learned more about Scotland's historical past - its Kings and Queens, Clans, Glen Coe massacre and battles. Scotland's hospitality and cuisine were second to none. Only downside was that we were unable to visit Staffa Island because of rough seas. I would add that the walking tours were not too strenuous - no need for hiking boots.

We could not have had a better tour guide than Robin Thompson. He pointed out places of interest on our train journey, provided us with historical facts and always ensured that everyone on the tour was well looked after. On a couple of occasions, he went out of his way to organise collection of personal belongings that were left on one of the coaches.
