Holy Land Pilgrimage
Well organised and some flexibility on the spot. Everything you could have expected from an excellent travel company. I was the leader and felt well supported.

pilgrimage based in Durham
t THE FACCOMMODATION WAS BASIC BUT ADEQUATE. FOOD WAS WELL PREPARED, AND THERE WAS A REASONABLE CHOICE. STAFF WERE HELPFUL AND PLEASANT. SOME IMPROVEMENTS NEEDED FROM GUIDES IN THE CHURCHES. AT TIMES VERY HARD TO HEAR WHAT THEY WERE SAYING. (MY HEARING IS NORMALBY THE WAY.)

A Pilgrimage "In the Footsteps of the Northern Saints"
This was a pilgrimage to learn more about the development of the Christian Church in the North of Britain, with particular reference to Saints Aidan and Cuthbert, and the Venerable Bede. The first day was a pilgrimage to Lindisfarne Holy Island, making the crossing from Beal either on foot or by coach. On the Island we were free to visit the extensive Priory ruins, the village and the museums, including one concerning the Lindisfarne Gospels. The whole group of 102 people met at 4 p.m. at the Church for a service of Holy Communion. On the next day we visited churches and a visitor centre in Jarrow and Chester-Le-Street, all relevant to the Northern Saints, with excellent presentations of the history. During our return journey we stopped at the Angel of the North, and were very touched by the little memorials at the foot of the hill with its vast statue. On the third and last day, we visited the City of Durham, and the Cathedral, finishing with attending a service of Evensong there. There were also interesting evening activities back in St. Aidan's College. We stayed in St. Aidan's College and the Business College, with very good accommodation and meals.
Rating for tour operator:McCabe Pilgrimages organise excellent pilgrimages abroad, and now in the UK. Having visited the Holy Land with them, also Oberammergau and Austria, and later Turkey, we can thoroughly recommend this tour operator. Their concern for detail, and for the well-being of their clients including particularly those with disabilities, leads to a brilliant standard of service, always linked with the spiritual leaders of the churches and groups involved. These are always friendly and personal experiences, with a sense of confidence in the safety and general expertise of the travel arrangements.
A great new pilgrimage - in the UK!
To join McCabe's first pilgrimage to Northumbria gave us a wonderful opportunity to learn about the Northern Saints who became the bed-rock of Christianity in England. To walk in the footsteps of Aiden and Cuthbert, to discover the incredible scholarship of the Venerable Bede, to admire the architecture and participate in worship in Durham Cathedral, were memorable. To walk in the footsteps of Aiden and Cuthbert, to discover the incredible scholarship of the Venerable Bede, to admire the architecture and participate in worship in Durham Cathedral, were memorable. We walked the muddy causeway to the Holy Island of Lindisfarne chased by the incoming tide. When the tide had ebbed and we could leave the island, at Seahouses we savoured the freshest fish supper one could wish for. Great value for money.
Rating for tour operator:McCabe's brought all their experience in researching the venues, in organising a complex programme, in attention to detail and in maximising their pilgrims'enjoyment of the opportunities on offer, into a new venture. We have travelled with them on many occasions, and they have never failed to exceed our expectations. We have two more pilgrimages booked with them already!
Pilgrimage to Northumberland
This was a Monday to Friday trip with three full and varied day trips. We saw and learnt a lot. Tour guide Rev Kevin and all his team from McCabe were friendly, fun and interesting. Definitely a need for more short pilgrimages in the UK.

A step back in time in the North East of England
A brief return to the North East of England to explore the early days of Christianity and the legacy on which our country and Church is built. St Aidan St Columba and Bede helped make the transition from roman Britain to the society we know today. Understanding what Bede did by pains-takingly writing down English history for the first time, converting an oral tradition to a written record is so significant. St Aidan St Columba and Bede helped make the transition from roman Britain to the society we know today. Understanding what Bede did by pains-takingly writing down English history for the first time, converting an oral tradition to a written record is so significant. And Bede seems that bit easier to understand than Columba - just why did he want to spend so much time alone, and how did he do it? Durham Cathedral is still my favourite, and the Northumbrian countryside is a peaceful delight
Rating for tour operator:This was the firt time McCabe Pilgrimages had arranged a trip in the UK. They paid the same level of care and attention to detail that I experienced overseas. I would trust them to take care of me wherever I travelled.
Very interesting and varied programme and well led.
Visited in the footsteps of the Northern Saints, going to Lindisfarne, Chester-le-=Street, Jarrow, Seahouses and of course Durham. Learned a lot and saw a lot in a few days.
