A Mary Poppins experience - perfect in every way!

Levada Trails and Peaks of Madeira. This was my first trip with KE and my first time in Madeira. What a combination - the perfect holiday in every way. Communications and the booking process worked like a dream. All the information I needed was sent in good time, and in clear, precise format. On arrival in Funchal I was whisked away to the hotel with clear instructions of what would happen next. I met the other members of the group, and the star of the show, our guide Roberto. I could write a book extolling his virtues, but in a reduced version, he constantly kept the safety of the group members as his number one priority. He quickly assessed the capabilities of individual group members and tailored the walks to ensure everyone found it both manageable and challenging. His local knowledge was incredible, ranging through history and culture, politics, cuisine, flora and fauna, geology .... I could go on. Suffice to say that he kept us thoroughly informed and happily answered all of our questions with a quick wit and approachable, entertaining manner. Nothing was too much trouble for him, and if he is an example of the standards which KE demand of their local guides, I can safely say I would not hesitate to make another booking. In fact I have already done so, on the Juniper Trust Nepal Trek in November 2016. The standard of hotels was excellent, rooms were clean and comfortable, and the amazing food was locally sourced and traditionally prepared. The packed lunches were to die for - so imaginative and beautifully prepared. No cheese and pickle sandwiches here!! The walks were varied and interesting, and in some places very challenging with lots of steep gradients, tunnels and narrow rocky paths. Exciting stuff! Our transport was using local taxi firms who obviously took safety, cleanliness, efficiency and friendliness seriously. Travel arrangements home went equally smoothly, with airport transfer efficiently on time and a charming driver. Even the weather was kind to us, with sunshine every day. All in all, a perfect holiday which I would recommend to anyone, and which I am longing to sample again.

Rating for tour operator:

KE Adventure are a family run tour operator with the most helpful, involved staff I have experienced. Every person I speak to knows exactly what they are talking about, goes out of their way to help and are obviously dedicated to ensuring that their customers get as much as possible from their holiday experience. They have self-imposed high ethics and eco standards, communication is excellent and marketing is efficient without being pushy. They encourage personal callers at their offices in Keswick, which I did, travelling from Southampton (300 miles). It was well worth the effort. All staff have personal experience of the tours they offer, so the advice they give is sound and accurate, and based on knowledge rather than hearsay. They have their own affiliated charity - The Juniper Trust - which is run by volunteers and therefore guarantees that all donations are spent directly on the chosen project. So far my experience with them has been 100% satisfactory.

The wonders of Italy's active volcanoes and its beautiful flora and fauna

A week in the Aeolian Islands and on Sicily; walks on three active volcanoes and plenty of chances to swim in the sea. Nocturnal Stromboli eruptions. A family-orientated trip that introduced our 8-year old to guided holiday-making and just the right level of effort each day to allow appreciation without exhaustion!

Leaving from Marrakesh we completed the trek in two long days, led by a local guide who grew up within the foothills of Toubkal. We were very well supported throughout the trek, with a clear itinerary, good accommodation and provided with a range of Moroccan dishes throughout the trip. The views from the summit are incredible stretching right across Morocco and on a clear day with a view of the Sahara Desert. To enjoy this trip you do need to be quite fit, it involves a second day of up to 13 hours walking including an ascent of the summit before sunrise.

This was a very well organised trip and what was promised was delivered. The local tour operator was brilliant, he really looked after us and tried hard to ensure we all enjoyed the trip.

Everest the Hard Way made Easy!

Don't get me wrong, it was still a tough trek over the three high passes of Renjo La, Cho La and Kongma La, over ice and snow. However it was made easy by the helpful, smiling Sherpa guides and the stunning strong nepalese porters who did it all with us while carrying huge packs. However it was made easy by the helpful, smiling Sherpa guides and the stunning strong nepalese porters who did it all with us while carrying huge packs. It gave you the sense that if they could smile while carrying those packs then we could surely keep putting one foot in front of the other! The support from KE was excellent and the local staff superb. There were risks of issues with the flights out of Lukla and our KE staff jumped in and made it all work for us. We couldn't have had better service. I couldn't rate KE any higher; they are the superlatives of trekking! I am currently booking for next year's trek!

Rating for tour operator:

KE made the Hard Way easy; they took the stress out of the holiday and made it all easy. From the second I phoned up to enquire, all the way through to my return to the UK I was looked after, cared for and made to feel special. It was a superb experience from start to finish. The booking staff were knowledgeable, informative and helpful. The local staff in Nepal were great fun, exceptionally welcoming and friendly, immensely strong and just oozed experience.

Excellent mountain biking tour in Turkey

Mountain biking in Cappacadonia in Turkey visiting rock dwellings and natural rock formations. Staying in local villages in the area and biking between them, also visiting tourist sites and local sites not normally visited by tourists. Excellent tour guide keeping the pace equal to the group, arranging meals in local authentic restaurants, ensuring group well fed for energy and hydration.

A stress free booking experience and provided with all the information needed before departure. Holiday worked seamlessly with transfer and excellent selection of companies and hotels in Peru. During our trek it was just us two with a team of guides, porters and chefs making it a private tour of the Inka trail which we certainly didn't expect and was fabulous, on talking to the guide the max group size is 6 so always small meaning the walk can be tailored to what you want to see. The food was excellent especially considered it was cook on a camping stove 3000M above sea level and my allergies were catered for perfectly and even made me a birthday cake at 3600M without an oven! The staff we encountered couldn't have been more friendly and helpful, especially in assisting will recovery of my bag which was lost on route to Peru by the airline, we would have struggled without them considering our poor Spanish. The 5 day Inka trail rather than the 4 means you get to see Macchu Pichu when you are recovered and not half asleep meaning you can pay full attention to the tour and additionally means you don't encounter a lot of the big groups on the trail itself. We also did the amazon extension, i was dubious about flying mid holiday but it was only 30 minutes and the adventure began on arrival so you didn't feel like you had lost a day of your holiday. We had 2 boats trips and a trek to the lodge with drinks on arrival and a night walk. The staff at the lodge were friendly and food excellent. The guides were very knowledgeable and were happy to tailor activities to your preference. We saw a wide range of animals even though there was a cold spell. Animals we saw included black caymens, monkeys, turtles, insects, giant river otters and many birds. Over all a brilliant experience, only advice i have if doing this trip is pack luggage in two sections - clothes for Inca trail and clothes for Amazon as ours were all slightly smelly by the time we arrived in the Amazon and we didn't do laundry although facilities are available in Cusco with a 2 hour turnaround, also take binoculars. Thanks for a brilliant adventure.

Rating for tour operator:

Really understood exactly what we wanted and worked out how best to do it in the time we had available. The whole process was stress free and they gave us plenty of information of what to pack and ho to prepare. The tour companies they use in Peru were excellent and the whole holiday ran seamlessly.
