We used Ffestiniog Travel Services because of their reputation for organisation of multi-destination trips worldwide. Their communication was prompt and professional at all times and they selected travel arrangements and hotels that were perfect for our needs. I'd like to specifically thank Kate Berry for her arrangements for what was, for us, the trip of a lifetime.

Over (and under) land Rome to London

Ffestiniog Travel organised rail travel and accommodation Rome-Pisa-Lucca-Modena-Lugano-Koln-Brussels-London for me in April. (They also arranged flights to Norway for my wife myself shortly afterwards)

Choice of hotels was excellent and the rail journeys including connections went like clockwork. Ffestiniog Travel went to a lot of trouble in making the arrangments and provided me with exactly what I asked for. I would definitely use them again for future bespoke touring.

Return Florence, Turin, Paris, London St Pancras International / King Cross And Grantham with stop offs at Strasbourg, Cher, Torino, Florence 4 days, Turin and Paris. Awel worked to our broad plan at short notice and engineered a near perfect detailed plan/ Itinerary. Father 86 accompanied by daughter. Highlights - Cities, mostly crowded with fellow tourists using local tour guides, Bemina Express (unmissable mountains scenery) during several hours. Torino hotel Curt di Clement, Eco experiment not quite working and full of hazards for less agile (missable). Florence, great Golf Cart Tour to understand the layout and key places of interest on first day chose key points of interest. Mercado Central unmissable to see the great abundance of groceries, meat, wine and veg and enjoy the street food from stalls in surrounding market cafes.. Lessons learned, Smoking everywhere in Paris/ Strasbourg and less so in Italy but a shock, the entrance height of French and Italian trains, don’t be surprised to find your seats have changed on French trains and even in best class French trains scruffy and unkept. Take liquid and a picnic as the experienced do. Station staff very helpful as was everyone we came into contact with on our travels. Overhaul, brilliant experience and a real eye opener as the UK slips backwards in so many ways. Although almost all understand some English, we were short of Italian language skills to gain maximum benefit. Over there. Forgot needed Swiss currency and cash was king with may small cafes./ taxis retail outlets throughout.

Rating for tour operator:

Dealt with Awel and very good. Itinerary excellent when concluded particularly with commentary./ notes. Suggestion, use taxis from/to hotels as dragging bags over cobble stones not pleasant even so called short distances.

Switzerland's Lake Luzern

Four days in Luzern, with 2-days outward travel and 2-days return. The time spent at the resort was thoroughly enjoyable, but rail travel to and from Luzern was a pretty awful experience.

Having given Ffestiniog Travel details of my ideas for a rail holiday and certain definite dates, they put together a bespoke itinerary including all rail journeys and hotel accomodation. They were extremely helpful in planning the holiday and, prior to departure, provided me with a comprehensive pack of information in addition to the rail tickets and hotel vouchers. All the arrangements worked like clockwork. I am very impressed with the high level of service received.

We visited Quedlingburg a beautiful town full of original medieval half timbered buildings. The highlight was a steam train ride to the top of the Brocken to enjoy the scenery and views but also to see and learn more about the area during the Cold War. It was very shocking to see the devastation of trees over an area of several thousand hectares which is caused by a beetle infestation that is flourishing in warmer temperatures due to climate change
