EASTERN CANADA BY TRAIN

I flew from London to Halifax (Canada), staying there a few days. Then traveled in stages by train to Montreal, Ottawa and Toronto, staying a few days in each city, flying back from Toronto. Canada is a very civilised place to visit ... holiday very enjoyable.

Rating for tour operator:

I specified to Ffestiniog Travel on which trains I wished to travel in Canada and on which dates, and they suggested to me three-star city-centre hotels for each city I stopped in. They booked the air and train travel tickets, and all the hotels for me. Pre-travel planning and booking arrangements very efficient. Actual holiday went very smoothly.

An express visit to two iconic trains

This three day min-break in North Wales was primarily to travel on the Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Railways to Blaenau and Caernafon. The weather was appropriately Welsh but the scenery just spectacular for it.

Ffestinog Travel have obviously a lot of direct experience in organising this type of tour and it went like clockwork or rather steam! Pre- and post-travel interest by the team was high.

An Unusual Adventure

We visited parts of the States we hadn't been to before and all by Amtrak - very impressed (much better than UK trains). Good contrasts between Chicago and Washington/Savannah and Charleston. Excellent hotels in very convenient locations - already looking for another similar trip!

Eclipsed, Exhausting but Enjoyable

Flew to Vancouver to visit relatives, then took Amtrak Cascades train to Portland, Oregon. Day trip to Salem & return to witness total solar eclipse. Onwards by overnight Coast Starlight train to San Francisco for sightseeing/boat trip under Golden Gate Bridge and around Alcatraz island. Flew home to LHR

amazing

I had three destinations, the first being in a very remote part of Germany. I then went to Copenhagen and Stockholm. The organisation of my journey was very good, with always enough time at stations so I never needed to rush. Apart from one hotel, The Hannover Intercity, all my hotels, chosen by Ffestiniog were good and in excellent locations.

Custom tour of Germany, Switzerland and Italy

Absolutely superb. Arrangements were faultless- accommodation was great and easy to locate. All train journeys were prebooked and ran like clockwork. This is the second time we've used Ffestiniog Travel to arrange a customised tour for our family and just like last year's it was excellent. We had an amazing holiday that all members of our family loved.

A grand trek following the Danube across Europe

This was an excellent tour, imaginatively planned to make best use of water transport along the scenic parts of the river and rail journeys to link up the major cities. It covered a lot of ground in two weeks starting with the wetland wildlife of the Danube delta in Romania, visitng numerous countries and cities along the river and finishing at the Danube source in Germany.

Ffestiniog travel is a small operator with an emphaisis on rail travel. They give afriendly personal service, and were quite happy to tailor the end of the tour to meet our request for an extension.

A trip along the valley of the Danube by train.

I have received many brochures through the post about cruises on the Danube, but thought they might be too boring. This trip satisfied the need. We followed the Danube by train from mouth to source, and had trips on the river in the interesting gorges and the mouth. This included one trip on the river in the upper reaches where the cruise boats do not go. Sometimes we only had an hour for a connection, but we made numerous train and boat connections ...

This included one trip on the river in the upper reaches where the cruise boats do not go. I visited several capitals for the first time, which has wetted my appetite for other visits.

Rating for tour operator:

I have been on several trips with Ffestiniog, and never has there been more than 18 people on the trip. This makes it easier to get to know people and makes organising the group easier. Most people have a common interest in railways, but not obsessively so like bird watchers. This provides a more harmonious mix of people. I have never booked on a trip which has been cancelled.
