6 fascinating days in Malta, based in a 5 star hotel, at Valletta Baroque Music Festival

It was a totally enjoyable visit. I hadn't realised Malta was so interesting. We had wonderful guides in the person of Tom Duncan who organised the visit, and of the local guide Glorianne Mizzi, who has an encyclopaedic knowledge of Maltese history, and was very clear and energetic. We had wonderful guides in the person of Tom Duncan who organised the visit, and of the local guide Glorianne Mizzi, who has an encyclopaedic knowledge of Maltese history, and was very clear and energetic. The hotel was spacious and very well-appointed with a great variety of places to eat and drink, and only 5 minutes away from the streets of old Malta. It has a large and beautiful garden which must be wonderful in summer, as there is not much green space in Valletta. The week was planned with a very good balance of concerts, architectural visits and meals, and enough time off to explore on our own. By the end of the visit we were all getting to know one another, and there was a very friendly atmosphere.

Rating for tour operator:

Tom Duncan is not only an alert and practised tour operator, but also most knowledgeable about music and architecture, which were the basis of our visit. Like some of the others in our group I do not walk very well, but I was helped by Tom and the coach drivers, and never made to feel a drag. Tom had firm but friendly control throughout.

Christmas in Prague

A four/five day trip to Prague over Christmas. A city not previously visited by my wife nor I. We were taken to the highlights that the City has to offer.with a very good local guide; accommodated in an excellent hotel, the Aria, and provided with very good local food but appropriate to the Christmas season. Our party was cosmopolitan, interesting and companiable. In consequence we shall hope to visit Prague again.

Happy fur wrapped Christmas in Prague

We whizzed round the small beautiful city, seeing new and fascinating angles on it daily, in between revelling cheerfully at lunches and dinners in highly decorative settings, recalling the rich 19th century burguoisie and even richer earlier princes who made the city such a trove of delights artistic, musical and architectural. The food will soon catch up. The opera houses are charming, the music lively for the festive season.

Ciceroni does thorough research, both for comfort and culture and excels at planning original and entertaining tours. We had a lovely Christmas break in an excellent hotel, and all we saw, walks, galleries, churches, palaces, opera and ballet was most agreeable and enjoyable.

Pleasures in Prague

I spent Christmas with a group of like-minded travellers in Prague based at the excellent hotel Aria. The whole experience was extraordinarily festive and fun. It was a truly merry Christmas with the added bonus of exploring some of that city's remarkable sights and history. Our leaders Tom Duncan and Stephen Brook could not have been more attentive, informed, thoughtful and efficient; and apart from learning so much about Prague itself we also had the opportunity to attend a couple of ballets and operas - which were delightful. A splendid holiday!

On the occasions that I have travelled with Ciceroni I have always had a most fascinating and convivial time. We invariably stay in well chosen and comfortable hotels, enjoy good food - and, most importantly, are introduced to cultural topics in which the guides and lecturers are not only experts in their fields but are eloquent and amusing. From past experience I know the firm to be reliable, stimulating and congenial. Highly recommended.

Istanbul Through History by Margaret Devlin, 5 Nov 2014
Holiday Rating:

A comprehensive tour of the main sights of Istanbul with very useful historical information

Although most of the week was spent in Istanbul, there was an enlightening expedition to Edirne and a great trip on the Bosphorus. We were accompanied by a local professional guide as well as an English historian, who provided a great deal of background information. The hotel was central and very comfortable and the group meals delightful.

Non stop visual, intellectual and gastronomic stimulation within a coherent theme

Very well organised, coherent itinerary with careful choice of visits and sequence which reinforced the theme of Romans/Christians/Moors in Andalucía. Excellent choice of hotels and restaurants which complemented the richness of the cultural experience. A much more varied experience of this part of Spain than most itineraries offer.
