The Villas & Gardens of Florence by Mrs R S 16, 2 May 2016
Holiday Rating:

Fascinating and informative trip visiting villas and gardens around Florence.

A trip with guides who communicated very well and passed on their extensive knowledge with a sense of humour. Good hotel chosen and food and wine on the meals included were a bonus.

Castile and the Formation of Spain

A very interesting overview of Spanish history which was enriched by excellent food and wines. Local organisation was faultless.

Ciceroni has been know to us for many years (our first trip was in 2008) and we had been to Dublin with Tom Duncan before that. Its organisation was first class.

Informative, delicious and fun.

All travel and hotel arrangements were efficient and comfortable without being pressured. The places visited were interesting, the information whether from tour or local guides was authoritative and comprehensible, often with surprising and illuminating detail and insight. The meals were unfailingly well chosen and delicious. All in the group were social and pleasant. The erudition and wit of Mr Duncan are not to be missed.

Very efficient, no glitches or problems that caused upset. The back office and the front line staff are unfailingly friendly, courteous and helpful. The hotels, restaurants and sites visited are all excellent, and often are very special. The itinerary makes good, but not over-demanding use of time.

Never a dull moment

To get the most out of this kind of holiday you have to be fairly fit. There is quite a bit of walking, some hills and steps. Some days we were away from the hotel for nearly eleven hours. That said there was usually time for a nap in the coach on the way back after an excellent lunch in a well chosen restaurant. Those younger than us might be able to manage the very generous portions better than we could. Tom Duncan makes the castles, churches ...

That said there was usually time for a nap in the coach on the way back after an excellent lunch in a well chosen restaurant. Those younger than us might be able to manage the very generous portions better than we could. Tom Duncan makes the castles, churches and cathedrals or sights so interesting. He is a mine of information which he very often uses to augment the knowledge of the local guides. Headphones and microphones are used when guiding in buildings and nearby. These are very useful but care needs to be taken not to lose a hearing aid when the equipment is removed. Tom was ably assisted by David Sketchley who makes sure everything runs smoothly and helps to research the hotels, etc. He contributes to the success of the tour.

There are plenty of interesting tours from which to choose. Some may seem expensive but so much is included like wine with meals, tips etc. So it is worth every penny.Groups are small compared to some, ours was twenty two. Flights are booked by them. When you need to ring with a query they are very helpful. We are kept up to date by emails and newsletters.

The Etruscans by Juno, 18 Apr 2016

Exploring a lost culture with top historian and gastronomical delights too, excellent!

A short break in Italy discovering the ancient culture of the Etruscans. Exceedingly well organised, a small group, we stayed in two superb hotels and visited some excellent restaurants. With the specialised knowledge of the Director of the British School at Rome our guide, a privilege indeed, we were given an insight into these mysterious people of the pre Roman Republic.

Spring in Galicia - Camellias, castles and Santiago.

We spent four days visiting large estates with the most magnificent camellias. The owners showed us round and were hospitable and charming. We learnt a lot about camellias, the most beautiful of flowers and we saw a large variety of many species. Sometimes the owners showed us round their Paz (castle) and at one or two we had lunch. We had a local guide to show us round Santiage and then free time to wander in this lively old city. We stayed ...

A memorable first visit to Galicia and to such beautiful camellias.

Rating for tour operator:

Very good admin and advance information. The visit brochure was excellent. The tour leader and manager were both very reliable and entertaining. The local guide was very good, and the estate owners did a marvellous job guiding us round and giving us so much information on their camellias.
