The Marches Explored. Urbino and Ascoli Picena

We were away from 22nd to 28th of May 2016. As usual Tom Duncan and James Hill had organized a carefully thought out trip. One cannot go wrong with Ciceroni

Excellent base at Ballymaloe Hotel. We had an interesting and very varied programme, everywhere we went we were received with great friendliness and usually amazing scones, made on the day! Lots to see, am action packed few days.

CICERONI provide a professional service which ran seamlessly. No mean feat. It was my first trip with them and it certainly won't be my last. All aspects of the trip were to the highest standard and I compliment them for this.

Good well-organised trip, slightly too much talking by the guides - sometimes less is more!

Well planned and executed and based upon a superb hotel near Cork

A visit to houses and gardens of Southern Ireland. Stayed at Ballymaloe a superb country house hotel with outstanding staff. The tour was led by Tom Duncan who is always an excellent and knowledgeable guide but in Iteland , being his homeland , he seems to add an extra dimension. A great holiday with delightful people in the group

Ciceroni always provides interesting venues and access to places that as an individual traveller one could not visit. I have travelled with Tom Duncan many times and have enjoyed all my trips.

Castile and the formation of Spain

The visit to the region provided an excellent insight to the creation of Spain. The tours of historic cities, cathedrals and other notable buildings including many beautiful interiors coupled with very knowledgeable interpretations by the guides made this a most memorable tour.

The Villas & Gardens of Florence by Busy Lizzie, 6 May 2016

Ciceroni's tour of the Villas and Gardens of Florence included one palazzo in the city and several in the Tuscan hills.

Staying in a delightful hotel in Fiesole we sallied forth each morning to explore villas in the surrounding hills dating from the fifteenth to the twentieth centuries. We enjoyed both convivial lunches in estate restaurants and dinners in our hotel or Fiesole. Staying in a delightful hotel in Fiesole we sallied forth each morning to explore villas in the surrounding hills dating from the fifteenth to the twentieth centuries. We enjoyed both convivial lunches in estate restaurants and dinners in our hotel or Fiesole. On this, my first visit to Tuscany, I was bowled over not only by the style and artistic contents of the villas, but by the views from their balconies and garden balustrades. Four days of glorious sunshine made the trip also a photographer's dream. Rain on the last curtailed our plans, but fortunately the frescoed courtyard of Villa La Petraia, encapsulated the glories of the art we had previously enjoyed.

Rating for tour operator:

Excellence is par for the course of Ciceroni's tours , both at home and abroad. After the first one or two, one encounters old friends - and they are friends - whose shared tastes make conversation easy as well as informative. Congenial company and convivial meals make each tour enjoyable. Tom Duncan and, in Italy, James Hill deploy their expert knowledge of art, architecture and gardens with ebullient enthusiasm which infects us all with their own pleasure at introcucing us to new experiences.

gardens and villas around Florence - the best

an interesting and enjoyable programme of visits to villas and gardens. A stimulating and comfortable experience with good food and a nice hotel, with a view from my window of Florence. And a Tuscan spring is a delight.
