Wonderful Scottish Hebrides Adventure

Such a wonderful trip, from start to finish. 2 weeks in the Hebrides and Orkney, Our travel agent (absolute Escapes) gave us a 30 page itinerary on where to visit, best places for food that was our itinerary for each day.. So many highlights but Langass Lodge in North Uist, had to be the highlight of our trip. People we met were fantastic, so many happy memories. We even played Askernish Golf course in 40km/hr winds. A truly memorable holiday

Absolute Escapes was absolutely incredible from start to finish. Booking, attention to detail and they even sent a 30 page itinerary to our home in Vancouver by FedEx . (We used that every day as our itinerary on Places to Visit, best restaurants.) All our ferries, accommodation were all exactly as booked, directions on every aspect of where to go and what time to show up. Availability was exceptional when we needed to contact them were unable to go to one of the B&B due to Covid and immediately they booked us in at another venue. We recommend this amazing travel agency to all our friends in Canada. Thank you for an exceptional job- Sheila, Daisy , and James

Roman Holiday walking Hadrian's Wall Path

As our personal goal for this trip was to see as much of the Wall and other Roman ruins and archaeological sites as possible we spent one day taking advantage of the AD 122 Hadrian's Wall Bus instead of walking from Once Brewed to Chollerford so that we could spend time at Mile Castle 37, Housesteads, Brocolita, and Chesters. Those places were all worth the extensive time to tour them.

Absolute Escapes' planning of our West Highland Way trip was impeccable

Everything worked beautifully: bags, hotels, route signage, connections. It was really nice to have everything lined up and pre-paid. We're glad we did the slow route and took the extra days because it gave us time to explore more and pay attention to geology, botany, zoology, and beauty but now understand how the faster versions are possible. Even the long hikes are not as physically demanding as much of the hiking we do in the US and Canada where we often have double the elevation change and are starting at higher elevations too. We went with making sandwiches each morning for lunches and found your comments one resources available a reliable guide to where we'd be able to buy bread. A loaf generally lasted us 2-3 days and a small block of cheese was fine unrefrigerated for that long. Walking to our hotel (despite some slightly bad advice from google maps about cut-throughs that were not public gardens/parks) was easy in Edinburgh (much better than waiting for a taxi in the very long line at Waverly). Tram to airport was easy from the Edinburgh hotel. I find it impossible to pick a favorite and to the extent that favorite implies beautiful views that will depend on weather for each day as much as on the geology. Thank you all for your patience in delaying and revising the itinerary for us.

Absolute Escapes set up our lodging and baggage transfer based on our preferred timetable (including extra days on both ends and one in the middle). They provided good directions between the trail out our lodging plus useful recommendations for food each evening.

A lot packed into eight days

We had a great time in Shetland and Orkney enjoying scenery, archaeology and wildlife. With car hire, accommodation and ferry links all taken care of, we just concentrated on making the most of the trip.

Absolute Escapes made all the travel arrangements meaning we had little to worry about. The selected accommodation and car hire worked well for our needs, and the information on possible locations, places to eat out, and useful facts all made things very easy.

My holiday was a Northumberland Coast Path walking holiday, 14th - 21st June 2022. All in all I had an extremely enjoyable week. I had never spent time on this coast before and most of the scenery was absolutely beautiful. I found it extremely worthwhile taking additional days in both Seahouses and Fenwick. My trips to Staple Island and Inner Farne in the Farne Islands were very enjoyable, in fact having a keen interest in wildlife I would go as far as to say they were absolutely “mind blowing.” It was sound advice though on Inner Farne to wear a good strong hat with our good friends the Arctic Terns in close attendance. I also thoroughly enjoyed walking to the Holy Island of Lindisfarne via the Pilgrim’s Route, although before making the journey I did spend quite a bit of time double checking the tide times and speaking to people with good local knowledge. I should have made the journey home on the 21st June but because of the rail strike it became necessary for me to spend an extra night in Berwick - upon - Tweed. However, this gave me the opportunity to explore Berwick and also take a walk up to the England/Scotland border, so it was actually something of a bonus.

I was very impressed with the package that the Absolute Escapes Team put together for me. The B and B’s were excellent and my luggage was always waiting for me when I arrived. They provided me with comprehensive details of my accommodation, a summary of my route for each day, as well as suggestions on the best places to eat and drink in each night, and where to stock up on supplies for my lunch. They even provided me with safe crossing times when tides were an issue. Soon after I returned home they asked me for feedback which I thought was a nice touch in an effort to improve their service.

Thank you so much for your kind words, John. Given your interest in wildlife, it sounds like the Northumberland Coastal Path was the perfect holiday for you! I'm delighted to hear you enjoyed your additional days in Seahouses and Fenwick, and that you were even able to put a positive spin on the rail strikes by fitting in some sightseeing in Berwick upon Tweed! Thank you for booking through Absolute Escapes. We would be delighted to help you organise another walking holiday in the future. Kind regards, Lottie Smart

We started planning this trip in 2019 and it got delayed to 2022.. Absolute Escapes was alway responsive, and they allowed us to roll over our deposit two years in a row. Our lodging was fantastic and when there was a need to book lodgings AE took care of everything before we were even off the trail for the day. All of the restaurant recommendations were excellent — we ate incredibly well. We booked all dinners in advance at their recommendation and that proved vital as most nights we watched as other patrons were unfortunately turned away. Any necessary transit was always on time and our inn keepers were always in the know about that transit and the timing. Truly, everything was wonderful

The accommodation was at 4 guest houses all of which were excellent; places which understood the requirements of walkers. We enjoyed sea views at the three places on the sea front and all provided tasty breakfasts. The company arranged for our luggage to be transferred from one guest house to another and booked taxis where needed to get us to our accommodation all of which worked like clockwork leaving us relaxed and able to enjoy the walking

Rating for tour operator:

They were very helpful in helping us to book and provided excellent pre-holiday information. All queries were responded to promptly. They also provided a map and guide for the walk. As noted above the accomodation they arranged was excellent.
