Awesome scenery and a fantastic way to see the Scottish Highlands

We booked a 6 day walk on the West Highland Way through Absolute Escapes - all accommodation and bag transfers were pre booked. This worked very well. B&Bs all had private facilities and easy to find. We also requested dog friendly B+Bs as we had our small dog with us. Most of the B+Bs were very relaxed about dogs - others were fine but dogs were restricted to the bedroom only. The WHW is one of the most scenic walks in the world and an absolute ...

Absolute Escapes were very helpful - kept us up to date with bookings. We requested dog friendly accommodation and they managed to accommodate us and arrange a taxi service where necessary. We were provided with a map and touring guide brochure and excellent itinerary.

A very well organised holiday from the initial phone call (which was friendly helpful and informative) to the booking and subsequent itinerary and package ( map guide book etc) Accommodation was mostly excellent only one exception which was good but more hostel than guest house. Baggage transfer was excellent. Recommended eating places was much appreciated. The walking experience was great, about the right distance each day for my ability, and the historical background very interesting. Wildlife was plentiful especially the bird life towards the end of the walk.

Rating for tour operator:

Friendly initial phone conversation. Welcoming single solo walker. Not all operators do this but try to pair up with "another lady" which is not an option. I am fully prepared to pay extra and would suggest that many tour companies are missing out on a growing demand. The booking was effortless and the information package including itinerary map guide book etc. were received promptly. Directions to guest houses were detailed and mainly easy to follow with one exception where it was rather confusing and more complicated than necessary. I would definitely recommend this company.to fellow walkers.

Thank you very much for taking the time to leave a review, Sally, we really appreciate your kind comments. As passionate walkers ourselves, we are always more than happy to arrange a package for solo walkers, and we do try very hard to keep our single supplements to a minimum to make our packages as affordable as possible for solo walkers. Thank you again for choosing to book with Absolute Escapes, and we sincerely hope that you'll allow us to assist you with future walking plans. Scott Smyth

Brilliant, well planned, comfortable vacation

It was very well planned on a budget scale. We were taken care of from beginning to end. It was completely hassle free from booking a car, to B&B's to itinerary. Great recommendations for food.

West Highland Way in the sunshine

We had a perfectly worked out holiday. We couldn't go wrong, we just had to follow instructions from day to day. The weather was great and there were no hiccups whatsoever with any of the bookings. We had a great holiday!

English Uplands At Their Best

A beautiful route through some of England's most stunning upland countryside. Blessed by excellent weather and an interesting mix of accommodation, mostly excellent, some a bit quirky, just one which needs serious improvement.

We also liked knowing that we were never far from a town or a bus if we had needed help or transportation. This walk was an amazing experience and a good choice for my first walking holiday.

We are so happy with absolute escapes. They handled all the heavy lifting in planning our trip. We saved a lot of time and surely had a better experience than if we had planned it ourselves. They have the lay of the land and that knowledge is priceless.e Absolute escapes is very knowledgable, professional and accommodating. Our trip was perfectly and throughly planned. AE arranged for our baggage to be handled by the john muir way baggage service which literally took a load off!

Many thanks for your fabulous feedback on the John Muir Way. It only officially launched last year and is a very different experience from the John Muir Trail in your own state of California (where you have to watch out for bears!), but it has so many of it's own charms for all the reasons you've brilliantly articulated. We are absolutely delighted that you and Su enjoyed your walking holiday so much, and please do let us know if we can ever tempt you to come back and experience another. Scott Smyth

An Immersion Experience in Scotland!

A walking tour along the John Muir Way, mostly flat with a few gentle hills. My first-ever walking tour -- this was a perfect way to start! We walked near water a lot of the time, first the Scottish canals and later the Firth of Forth, with beautiful views almost the whole way. We ...

We walked near water a lot of the time, first the Scottish canals and later the Firth of Forth, with beautiful views almost the whole way. We saw so much more than we would have had we been in a car or on a bus. Everyone was lovely -- and helpful when we needed it. Our accomodations along the way were a mix of hotels and B&Bs, which were all fine, with a few being absolutely outstanding! It's a perfect walk for someone new to walking holidays.

Everything we hoped for and more! Absolute Excapes was very easy to work with. Everyone was knowlegeable, professional, and flexible enough to work with our changing schedule. Our baggage transfer was handled expertly, as well. I would highly recommend them to anyone planning a walking tour in Scotland!

Thank you for your feedback and your fantastic portrayal of the John Muir Way. We agree that it is an great, gentle introduction to long-distance walking, and the historical sights it passes by like the 2,000 year old Antonine Wall and the iconic Forth Bridges are a fantastic journey through Scottish history.

Thanks again for choosing to book with us, and please do get in touch if we can ever tempt you back across from California for another walking adventure!

Absolute Escapes did an outstanding job of coordinating three distinct tours for us. Upon completing my walk, my wife and I reunited in Edinburgh for the third leg of our holiday...a driving touring of Scotland. Our only regret was that we wished we had had more time in each of the locations on our driving tour. Every component of our holiday was expertly handled. Accommodations were exactly as we had requested and the detailed itinerary was spot on in terms of suggested activities and points of interest.

Rating for tour operator:

AE was very thorough from our initial contact. All questions were responded to in a very timely manner. Our accommodations were exactly as we had anticipated and the itinerary was very comprehensive. The suggested activities and points of interest were exactly what we had hope for. We would unquestionably use AE again and would recommend them without reservation.
