Seven exciting days on the West Highland Way

We walked the West Highland Way in seven days. We were very fortunate with the weather, we used the raingear only on the last day. We felt very welcome everywhere and enjoyed the Scottish food and beer. The Way is very well maintained throughout.

We made very good experience with Absolute Escapes earlier so we decided to book with them again. And again they did an excellent job organizing the walk for us. Nothing to complain at all.

Absolute Escapes responded to this review on 12 Oct 2015:

Many thanks for your positive comments Stefan. We are really pleased you came back to us and that you enjoyed another great experience with mostly good weather! We do hope you will continue to think of us in the future should you decide to book a similar trip. With best wishes, Amanda MacDonald

Walked the John Muir Way from Helensburgh to Dunbar

We had a terrific experience from start to finish. The JohnMuir Way was well sign posted, the trails and paths were easy to walk on, the places we stayed were charming and comfortable, with delicious Scottish breakfasts every morning, the inn keepers were almost all cheerful and helpful with advice when needed, and the weather was fantastic--we never walked in the rain.

Absolute Escapes was a pleasure to work with, responding very promptly to all questions and being very helpful with all our concerns. James and Andy each had good advice and useful suggestions. The information packet was most useful in many ways. Can't think of a single thing that could have been better. And an added bonus was meeting Steve the luggage carrier one morning on the road and then meeting almost the whole team on the trail the last day of walking. So nice to put faces to all those names.

Many thanks for your feedback Elsa, it was great to meet you on the trail and experience some of the fantastic weather you had - not often can you walk in Scotland for 10 days and not get rained on! We're delighted you had such a terrific experience and enjoyed all your accommodations, do let us know when you next consider a walking trail over here. Kind Regards, James Fathers

Driving Scotland with Confidence

Destinations chosen were excellent as was the accomodation which included hotels and B & B's. In the main directions given were clear and concise negating any need for a GPS. Perhaps the one exception being exactly where to drop off our hire car which did lead to an "interesting" drive around Inverness. We thoroughly enjoyed the scenery of the Scottish highlands and the itinerary gave us plenty of time to do so. However we were a little disappointed that as our return by ferry from the Orkneys to the mainland was late in the day our drive from Scrabster to Durness was largely at night. We would have much preferred daytime travel to appreciate the beautiful scenery along this route. Perhaps adding a day to the itinerary and overnighting in Scrabster may have been a better option. Nevertheless driving this route at night with the narrow roads and sheep grazing along it was an experience we won't forget in a hurry (nothing a double scotch on arrival in Durness couldn't fix).

Rating for tour operator:

All arrangements were made with our tour operator via e-mail between Australia and Scotland. Communication was excellent and the attention to detail provided by Andy Gabe representing Absolute Escapes was appreciated and consequently gave us confidence in our dealings with this operator. An important consideration when dealing with someone on the other side of the world who you have never heard of before. All questions were answered to our satisfaction and hard copy of our travel itinerary arrived by mail when promised with content exactly as had been stated. In summation we would have no hesitation in recommending this tour operator to others.

Absolute Escapes responded to this review on 09 Oct 2015:

Thank you very much for your review, Bruce, and for your kind words about the service we provide. We were delighted to hear that you enjoyed your tour of Scotland - you certainly covered some spectacular areas in the far north-west and Orkney. Thank you also for your comments about the car rental location in Inverness, and we will look to improve the directions we provide for this. Thank you once again for your booking and for recommending us to others - it is much appreciated. Andy Gabe

Our tour operator was Rabbies and they do a great job. They use small vans and there were only 9 people in our group. Our guide, Audrey, was the best guide we have ever had. She stopped at nothing to make sure we had a wonderful time. She convinced the oyster seller to let us have oysters even thought they were closed and pulled cold meds out of her hat when I had the sniffles. She even conjured up rainbows for us.

Thank you very much for your feedback Teri and Phil. We're pleased to hear you had such a great time on your Rabbies Tour, and we've passed your kind words on to Rabbies. I'm sure Audrey will be delighted to hear you enjoyed the rainbows she conjured! Kind Regards, James

remote, stark, beautiful and compelling Hebridean isles

a fantastic experience that was much more than described and planned perfectly by Absolute Escapes that ensured a hassle free transition from one beautiful isle and its accommodation to the next. we were free to be completely absorbed in the breathtaking beauty and wild magnificence of a region that apparently not even many Scots have ventured to. this is a must visit part of the world for everybody to experience.

Thank you so much for your lovely review and kind comments, Graeme. It is great to hear how much you enjoyed island hopping in the remote and breathtakingly beautiful Outer Hebrides - a stunning part of Scotland which we should all get to experience some day. It sounds like you made some wonderful memories and we hope to hear from you again in the future if you decide to make the journey from Australia to the other side of the world. Sine Nielsen

A walking holiday in Scotland, walking The Great Glen Way.

A fabulous week in Scotland walking The Great Glen Way. We climbed Ben Nevis on the Saturday before starting to walk the Great Glen Way on the Sunday. We took 5 days to complete the walk using Absolute Escapes to organise our accommodation and baggage transfers each day. The weather was poor for our walk up Ben Nevis but was beautiful for the 5 days walking the Great Glen Way (we had rain on the last afternoon walking down into Inverness)

Absolute Escapes were fabulous from start to finish. The standard of accommodation was excellent and our bags were waiting for us each day in our accommodation with no fuss. The administration was efficient and the information package that we received was perfect. We will certainly be using Absolute Escapes again (we are planning to walk the West Highland Way in 2016)

Thank you very much for your kind comments, Eddie. It sounds like you had a wonderful walking holiday and congratulations for making it up Ben Nevis before starting the Great Glen Way - a shame about the weather but I am sure 5 days of sunshine made up for it! It would be our pleasure to help organise your next walking adventure on the West Highland Way. Sine Nielsen

We had a lovely two weeks touring Scotland. It was the best weather they had all year and made for some spectacular views and photos. Having our trip planned out with accommodations booked in advance made our travelling worry free and allowed us to fully enjoy ourselves. We did some spectacular hikes, sea kayaking, whiskey tasting and enjoyed Scotland's expansive history. It was a great mix of busy cities and empty moors. A beautiful country!

Absolute Adventures responded promptly to all of our emails and inquires and helped us to tweak an existing itinerary to fit our interests and time allowances. They had many helpful suggestions and were able to incorporate all of our requests. When an issue came up with the car rental company (we were going to be charged an extra - very expensive - fee due to our age)we emailed Andy at Absolute Adventures and he took care of it within 24 hours! Our itinerary was very detailed and provided lots of suggestions of attractions in each location. All of the accommodation was beautiful and our hosts were all very kind and welcoming. Thankfully there was a GPS system in our rental car as the provided map was not quite detailed enough to navigate the cities and towns. Overall it was a fantastic trip!
