An amazing experience exceeding expectations

We trekked and camped on the Lamjung Himal trek for 10 days. Totally away from all the trappings of civilisation, simply surrounded by majestic mountains. Very well looked after by the Nepalese crew and guides

It was very well planned and organised by The Mountain Company. The itinerary allowed 3 - 4 days for acclimatisation, with really interesting side trips to Thame and Amadablam base camp, we didn't experience any altitude sickness. Hiking uphill was, however, very tough at altitude. The pre trip information was very informative. The accommodation was the best available, the food was good and the beds comfortable, but it was cold in the bedrooms (warm in bed with the hot water bottle provided). We went from 28th Oct to 14th Nov 2019, the weather was excellent and the trail wasn't very busy. I could recommend this trip to intrepid travellers who like hiking and don't mind doing without some home comforts - it is Nepal and everything is carried up the valley by porters, yaks or mules, electricity might be unreliable and hot water unavailable especially at the higher elevations. It was fabulous experience, I'm so glad we went.

Rating for tour operator:

We felt well looked after. The main point of contact with the company was the trekking guide who was friendly and helpful and inspired great confidence. All arrangements went very smoothly.

Pikey Peak in Nepal by Zendog 1402, 15 Nov 2019

Pikey Peak adventure

Another well organised and fantastic trek. This was the best of the three treks that I have done so far with The Mountain Company. Purna our guide was brilliant as usual and Samir, our porter, is a rising star. He only has basic English but his customer service was excellent. This is a trek that shows you the real, rural Nepal. You are walking in areas where you will not see many other trekkers and will get to interact with the Nepalese where they actually live and farm. The Lodges were fine if you have trekked before and your expectations are correct. Three of the lodges were to a very good standard with hot showers, electric and Wi-Fi, the remaining were very basic but that said, it was no problem as everywhere was clean and we had everything we needed. Surprisingly, even the loos were clean and user friendly which is not always the case in Nepal. We spent quite a few days up and down around 3500 m which I found challenging but rewarding. One of the highlights of the trek was the day we summited Pikey Peak. We got up at 4am, had a quick hot drink and cookies and the climbed for about 60 minutes by head torch up to the top of Pikey Peak, arriving at 5.30am. We were the first there and had about 10 minutes before anyone else arrived. It was absolutely brilliant and moved me to tears. The sky was on fire and a deep red and the sunrise was everything I had hoped it would be. It was cold on the top but if you are wearing the correct gear then no problem. Everywhere on this trek there is evidence of new lodges being built. I think this will be a very popular trek in the coming years and am pleased that I experienced it now whilst it is still raw and untamed. The temperature was below freezing on a few nights with a hard frost so a good sleeping bag is essential In conclusion, a brilliant 10/10 trek that for me , was the Nepal trek of my dreams and that I don’t know how can be improved on. My challenge is going to be finding the next trek, one that supersedes the perfection of this trek.

This is my third trek in Nepal with The Mountain Company and once again they have provided a stress free adventure due to their total professionalism and attention to detail. From the initial planning, through arrival in Kathmandu and during the actual trekking, everything was smooth and easy and I felt totally at ease and supported. I can not recommend this company too highly and would like to once again thank Roland and his team for all their efforts.

A Superb Trek in Nepal

The Dhaulagiri Circuit is a challenging trek in the remote and unspoilt western Himalaya. It's an expedition, that needs considerable planning

The Mountain Company is a truly exceptional trekking and mountaineering company. They are very experienced and demonstrated meticulous planning and attention to detail which was essential for this challenging trek. The western team leader, sirdar, sherpa guides, cook and porters were unmatched. I have used many trekking companies over the years. The Mountain Company is the very best by far and I would recommend them without hesitation.

We started out in local hotels and then switched to back country camping with support from our local guide: Tashi. He basically looked out for our wellbeing constantly throughout the trip. Tashi is an excellent guide, and also was very careful to ensure our safety. The food prepared bu our cook Dorje, was also excellent, and somehow he even managed to make us pizza twice! Ugen was our hard working horseman who got our gear from site to site with some long days. The scenery and experiences were amazing and unforgettable. We had some long days and some difficult days, with our high point being 5005 m. This was my third trip to Bhutan for trekking. Clearly, I think Bhutan is a very special place to visit.

Rating for tour operator:

The Mountain Company is run by Roland Hunter. He is a meticulous and very personable operator. He is very enthusiastic, and met with us for over an hour in Kathmandu before and after our trip into Bhutan. This was my fourth trip with the Mountain Company. On two of these trips, Roland actually led the backcountry portion of the trip himself. As a result I have come to know him as more than the "boss" of the company. I have no hesitation to highly recommend Roland and the Mountain Company. In fact, I have already signed up for another trip with him.

Snowman trek, 2019

A sensational long distance, remote trekking adventure that has been on my bucket list for a long time

A sensational long distance, remote trekking adventure that has been on my bucket list for a long time

Rating for tour operator:

Having trekked many times with other companies in the Himalayan Mountains, THE MOUNTAIN COMPANY has surprised and delighted me with its degree of excellence in all areas. To start with there was the thorough and professional planning of the trip details, including enough rest and contingency days to suit the remote conditions. It was clear early on that this was a company that understood remote mountains. Then there was the seamless execution of a very challenging trek, including the problem solving of trekker-created problems that could have derailed the expedition. There was the meticulous care for the health and safety of all the trekkers AND the local support crew. There was the exceptional quality and volume of great food provided to sustain our energy levels over an extended period of time in very remote parts of Bhutan. Also, THE MOUNTAIN COMPANY provided an experienced western leader which added massive value being the bridge between the trekkers and the local company with whom they have been working for many years. THE MOUNTAIN COMPANY sits above all the other companies in my experience. Well done!!

Snowman Trek Walk

This is a very tough and hard walk because long duration, high altitude, rough track (muddy and rocky), continuous walks (some more than 8 hours). It is a physical and psychological challenging journey. But the view is excellent if you are lucky in good weather. Excellent operation is MUST for the completion of the whole walk.

They have good ground operation in background, the support team is excellent in co-operation with horse arrangement/movement, tent setting, kitchen, etc.

Dhaulagiri Circuit in Nepal by Trekker07, 28 Oct 2019

Fantastic trek, great scenery, outstanding leader, excellent food

I trekked the Dhaulagiri circuit in a group of 7 led by Natalie Wilson. We had excellent weather, a very cohesive group and a wonderful local crew to look after us. The trek starts with almost subtropical scenery and a rarely trekked village, goes up through a dramatic rocky gorge with some very exposed sections, opens up with dramatic snow covered peak all around and then crosses into the arid Hidden Valley.

I have trekked in the Himalaya with several companies and The Mountain Company has been consistently the best. Attention to detail is outstanding. Everything works as planned. The Mountain Company employs western leaders to complement the local teams and this really does add value.

Everest Gokyo by Andy H & Dave K, 22 Oct 2019

Words cannot describe the experience

The quest was to set eyes upon Sagarmatha and for 11 days we trekked up the valleys to Gokyo. Wonderful, stunning scenery of the Himalayas as we climbed. Mountain names that months ago meant nothing now stood proudly before us. It was truly an incredible sight and one etched deep into the millstone grit. Cho Oyu, Makalu, Lhotse, Mera peak, Nuptse, Khang Tega, Ama Dablam, Thamserku and of course, Sagarmatha. They will remain with me forever.

The trek was 12 months in the planning and Roland and The Mountain Company were with us every step of the way. The communication was first class with no question too small. The whole operation was seamless, with transfers, pick ups, accommodation, advice, guidance and of course the Sherpa guides and porters. There is nothing but positives for The Mountain Company and I would highly recommend them to other trekkers. Should I visit this wonderful part of the world again, The Mountain Company would be my only choice. Thank you so much, Roland, the team, Dorjee and Dawa. 'Don't die wondering'
