Everest High Passes in Nepal by Steve D, 31 May 2022

An amazing trek in the Everest high passes and insight into another culture

We, a group of 6 friends and hikers in the UK, planned a trek from Lukla to Gokyo Ri and return via Renjo La with sightseeing in Kathmandu at the start and end, The Mountain Company and Roland Hunter put our hopes into a reality producing a fantastic experience with 16 days trekking and 5 days in Kathmandu. We were met at the airport and taken to our hotel in Kathmandu, which did not disappoint, had a briefing with Roland, an information pack and advice about the area and money changing. A 'sightseeing' day in Kathmandu was very good with excellent transport, driver and a very informative guide. The trek was tailored to allow time for acclimatisation and to enjoy the scenery and photographs. The 3 guides were helpful, well informed and knowledgeable about the route, area and culture and kept to a pace for our comfort, we were also supported by 3 excellent porters. The numbers clearly allowed for any eventualities that may have occurred and a safe trek. The Tea Houses we stayed in were of a good standard both for sleeping and eating. On returning to our hotel in Kathmandu we had another great tour of a different area and also more advice about other sights and places we may consider. Then transport to the airport for our departure. All of our group agreed we could not have had a better first experience to Nepal.

Rating for tour operator:

The Mountain Company and Roland Hunter provided an excellent, memorable and enjoyable experience and I cannot rate them high enough. Their website has all the information you need regarding what to expect, kit required, entry requirements and how to fill the forms in, everything was covered, any other questions emailed were always answered within a day and usually an hour or so, but the information was often on their website, we were kept updated about the changing entry requirements with regard to Covid. Whilst on the trek the guides carried a satellite phone for safety and our condition was monitored every evening. On the trek and in Kathmandu there was always the option to contact them for help, advice, form filling and ticket printing for our return with a de-brief at the end for our thoughts.

Everest high passes in Nepal

Three week high altitude trekking holiday in Nepal. A couple of days sightseeing in Kathmandu at either end. Flights to and from Lukla. Trekking up to Gokyo. Climbing Gokyo Ri. Return over the Renjo La pass and down the next valley to the west to make a loop of the trek.

Rating for tour operator:

The Mountain Company produced a very professionally organised trek plan which matched our wishes exactly. The organisation was smooth and efficient, sorting out all those little holiday problems with zero fuss. The guides were very friendly and very professional in their conduct. An amazing and very challenging experience superbly managed.

Dhaulagiri Circuit in Nepal by Lrnc, 18 May 2022

An 18 day trek around the Dhaulagiri Circuit

A strenuous trek in a remote region of Nepal taking in Dhaulagiri Base Camp, French Pass (5360m), Hidden Valley and Dhampus Pass (5240m). This is a camping trek. The guiding, support and help provided by the Sirdar, international leader, sherpas, cook, kitchen staff and porters were superb and the scenery and views were fantastic.

Amazing, Awesome, Fantastic, Stupendous...I cannot think of any more superlatives!

The holiday was everything I expected and more. The bustling madness that is Kathmandu has a unique charm all of its own, and the days spent sightseeing before and after the trek was interesting, thought-provoking, and very special. The main purpose of the holiday, of course, was the trek to Gokyo RI... the Lukla flight and particularly the landing, with the harsh mountainous landscape and the short steep runway was definitely memorable, however, the trails were quiet, there was fantastic camaraderie amongst trekkers and the accommodation in the main exceeded my expectations. There were times when I got quite emotional enjoying the views that I had previously only experienced as pictures in books. This was a holiday that I will remember forever.

This is an amazing caring company.... that did everything they could to make sure we had the best of times! The guides and porters were all lovely people who showed us the utmost care, and consideration....they watched us carefully on the trek and were always aware if someone needed that bit of extra encouragement and support. Unfortunately, I was taken ill during the trek and the director personally contacted my insurance company, arranged a helicopter evacuation, and was at the hospital to meet me. Thank You so much.

The walking holiday of a lifetime

I was in a small group of 7 people trekking in the Lamjung Himal for 9 days. We were looking for an adventurous trek, off the beaten track. I especially wanted to experience the quiet of the high mountains, nature and wildlife. The trip exceeded my hopes and expectations! Wonderful support and organisation from start to finish. I felt in safe hands from the moment I signed up. Excellent follow up and a personal meeting with the tour operator Roland to hear our feedback in detail. I cannot recommend them too highly. We wanted a trip off the beaten track and we got it. Roland has an excellent understanding of the hopes, dreams and needs of his clients!

Mardi Himal Ridge on the eve of Covid19

After lengthy discussion with TMC during which we always felt that no question was too much trouble or insignificant, we committed to the Mardi Himal Ridge trek. All logistics were perfect, the TMC team ensured we understood how it would run which made sure we were well prepared. The ancilary parts (transfers, guides, trips and hotels)all ran smoothly and everyone we met was both friendly and efficient.

Rating for tour operator:

We can not praise TMC highly enough. Not only was the trek and related elements well run but the support in the growing wave of anxiety about Covid19 was first class and fully vindicated the choice of agency. The trek was completed just before the impact of Covid19 restrictions really hit in Nepal but with developing events it became paramount that we got back to KTM from rural Nepal asap. Not only did TMC arrange the relevant impromptu flight and transfers (with payment not needed until we got to KTM!!) but their team also supported our efforts to rebook early flights back to UK. Without doubt our prompt return to UK without difficulty (we arrived 20March 2/3 days before formal lockdown) was largely down to the ease with which TMC arranged our return to KTM and movements once we got there.

The Trip of a Lifetime

We travelled around Nepal in celebration of our Ruby Wedding anniversary. We stayed in Kathmandu, then travelled to Dhulikhel, then Bhaktapur by road. Then we flew to Pokhara, on to Chitwan National Park, then back to Kathmandu.

Rating for tour operator:

The Mountain Company tailored the trip to our specific requests, but added suggestions to our itinerary to further enhance our experience of the country. They informed each hotel of the special occasion we were celebrating, and each one organised special treats for us to mark the occasion. Thanks to TMC we have watched the sun rise over the Annapurnas, and watched rhinos and crocodiles up close in Chitwan. Everything ran like clockwork and the whole trip exceeded our expectations.

Kanchenjunga Circuit in Nepal by Alice E, 6 Jan 2020

Extraordinary adventure around the third highest mountain in the world

For our first ever trip to the Himalayas we chose the Kanchenjunga Circuit run by The Mountain Company. This might seem unwise, as it is billed as a remote and challenging trip. However the personalized care we received before, during and after our trip made us feel safe, comfortable, and exhilarated throughout. We are going back, and wouldn't dream of going with any other tour operator.

The Mountain Company was fantastic to deal with from start to finish. It was always clear whom we could contact, and during our initial communications that was Roland Hunter, the owner, who made sure this trip was right for us and that we were prepared. In the immediate run up to the trip we received immediate responses to all our questions, and then while on trek we were superbly cared for and motivated by Natalie Wilson, the Western Leader, and the highly experienced local sidar.
