We chartered a Turkish gulet from Peter Sommer Travels. It came with a crew and an excellent local guide. Our guide was Serdar, an archaeologist who for 35 years has been excavating at a site on the Turkish Coast. It was fantastic - four couples, a Turkish chef, friendly helpful crew and a great Archaeologist who takes you ashore to the most amazing ancient sites and tells you the history. In between, you swim around the boat in sheltered beautiful bays then come back onto the boat and get served delightful Turkish food at various times during the day then drink ice cold local wine. You seem to drift down the coast, bay after beautiful bay with sheltered quiet bays to spend your nights. Each cabin comes with its own bathroom (head). Where else can you get a relaxing holiday, beautiful food, continually changing scenery, expert tuition when visiting some of the cradles of civilisation archaeological sites, accommodating crew to look after you and to beat all that you get to meet a chef lady who cooks for the archaeologists at a dig site - we met her at her simple home and she cooked us a traditional lunch in her outside ground level fireplace, delicious and such beautiful scenery. Serdar, our guide won our admiration and respect with his knowledge, his dedication to his craft and his care of us as his guests. We all want to do it again.

Peter Sommer Travels operates sailing and walking tours in Greece, Italy and Turkey using experienced archaeologists and history experts as guides. On the boat tours you get to sail in traditional Turkish Gulets that can accommodate groups for private charters or just join an existing tour and meet new people.

This was an extremely well-planned trip. The Lycian Way is a beautiful and rugged landscape with breath-taking views and superb archeological sites along the way. The trip was a good blend of walking, site visits, relaxing and swimming. The gulet was very comfortable and spacious, fabulous food and great company in our fellow travellers and guides. Peter really brought the places we visited to life and nothing beats having a guide with excellent local knowledge of the area. Peter and Cem are a great team! One of our best holidays ever.

This holiday was really well planned and led. The walking was demanding for me but manageable with stunning views . Peter, the leader was very interesting recounting the history of the sites visited in a very accessible manner. The gulet was spacious and comfortable with good nutritious and tasty food. The tour manager was excellent and it was all very enjoyable. I really recommend this trip.

An archaeologist who brought the rich history of this region to life.

This was our second trip with Peter Sommers Travel, up from 7 days to 14, but any reservations we may have had about repeating the experience, evaporated on day one as we realized once again that we were in the capable hands of a skilled team and crew, and travelling with a group of like minded guests. All aspects of the trip were undertaken with expertise and competence, from accommodation, transport, and shore excursions to food, wine and swimming. If you share our interests of sailing and archaeology, we highly recommend these tours - we may even meet you on board!

Peter, on visiting our first archaeological site, explained that it was his challenge to make these sites come alive for us. He succeeded admirably. His apparently limitless knowledge and boundless enthusiasm were ever present. At times I almost felt sorry for this mountain goat of a guide tethered to a group of old fogies! He could have told us and shown us so much more if only we had been able to keep up! Well done Peter and your superb team!

I really went for the archaeological experience but was thrilled to find that we were given plenty of time to enjoy the boat experience as well. The crew of four ran the boat like a well-oiled machine and the food was nothing short of fantastic. Olivier Henry was passionate about his subject and Cem was very professional, knowledgable and fun. He is a real gem for the company to have.

This cruise was along the southwestern coast of Turkey from Gocek to Bodrum. It included visits to many archeological sites with tours by an expert guide and archeologist. It also included many special culinary experiences with excellent meals prepared by the chef on board the boat, as well as, cooking demonstrations and meals in local homes or small family-owned restaurants. This gave us an opportunity to meet local people and get a better understanding of Turkish and Mediterranean cuisine and culture. The blend of ancient sites, archeology, gastronomic events, beautiful scenery, swims in clear turquoise waters and great ambiance of the wooden gullet was magical.

Peter Sommer Travel provided excellent logistics, first-class archeologist guides and a marvelous boat for our holiday experience.
