Our Group of longtime friends included four couples from various parts of Western Canada. We met our Travel Director (Peter Sommer) and his Gulet crew in Gocek along with seven other travelers from the UK, USA and Australia. We set out on our adventure of walking & cruising the Lycian Coastline. Each morning we would wake up to a fantastic Turkish breakfast prepared by the Gulet Chef and Crew along with freshly squeezed fruit juices and brewed coffee. After breakfast we set out on that day's adventure of exploring the endless number of Archeological sites found along or close to the coast. The entire trip was 5+++ stars. We wanted for nothing and owe allot of that to Peter's meticulous planning and his choice of Gulet and crew.

Peter Sommer's knowledge and passion for the history and archeological significance of Turkey is unmatched by any other Tour Guide we have travelled with. He was truly a pleasure to travel with and learn from.

From first arriving on the Gulet to the hikes and meals, we had a great time. The guides and crew did everything to make sure the trip was fun and entertaining. The color of the Meditteranian was just like the pictures and to be able to swim everyday was great. The hikes and history were also great, hard to fathom how old some of the sites were when coming from North America, we having nothing to compare to the history of Turkey. One of the high lights was when the sails were up and we enjoyed the sun and the wind.

A “Perfect Plus” archaeological holiday Lycian Cruise I award the Lycian Cruise a “Perfect Plus” as it could not have been better and I loved every moment of it. It was my idea of the perfect holiday a unique combination of archaeology and history, delicious food and wine, and swimming in the friendly, congenial company of fellow guests. An exciting combination of sailing and motoring overseen by our friendly, efficient and ever obliging Captain, Crew and Cook, on a unique and beautiful gulet. It was fun anchoring in a beautiful cove - very often one all to ourselves and cooling off in the warm, clear, blue and turquoise water. Sometimes simply floating in the sea in the water talking to the other guests. The interesting hikes to charming and fascinating towns and archaeological sites and conjuring up, thanks to Peter, wonderful images of past people, buildings and history. There was no pressure or stress, well planned days. Just the pleasure of dumping ones suitcase in the cabin and not having to worry about it until it was time to leave was a great bonus. A BIG THANK YOU to each and every one.

His quiet and understated organisational abilities are perfect. There was nothing, no suggestion or query that escaped his attention. The most mundane questions were answered and the most complicated historical problems made simple. I admired his inexhaustible, untiring and enthusiastic knowledge of the history and his understanding, love and respect for the people of the Lycian Coast. He brought history with quiet humour vividly to life and made light of complicated history. My thanks to him and Uğur Cinar who kept a discrete eye on me and were always there to help me over very often, rough, slippery and steep terrain. We chartered a Turkish gulet from Peter Sommer Travels. It came with a crew and an excellent local guide. Our guide was Serdar, an archaeologist who for 35 years has been excavating at a site on the Turkish Coast. It was fantastic - four couples, a Turkish chef, friendly helpful crew and a great Archaeologist who takes you ashore to the most amazing ancient sites and tells you the history. In between, you swim around the boat in sheltered beautiful bays then come back onto the boat and get served delightful Turkish food at various times during the day then drink ice cold local wine. You seem to drift down the coast, bay after beautiful bay with sheltered quiet bays to spend your nights. Each cabin comes with its own bathroom (head). Where else can you get a relaxing holiday, beautiful food, continually changing scenery, expert tuition when visiting some of the cradles of civilisation archaeological sites, accommodating crew to look after you and to beat all that you get to meet a chef lady who cooks for the archaeologists at a dig site - we met her at her simple home and she cooked us a traditional lunch in her outside ground level fireplace, delicious and such beautiful scenery. Serdar, our guide won our admiration and respect with his knowledge, his dedication to his craft and his care of us as his guests. We all want to do it again.

On the boat tours you get to sail in traditional Turkish Gulets that can accommodate groups for private charters or just join an existing tour and meet new people.

This was an extremely well-planned trip. The Lycian Way is a beautiful and rugged landscape with breath-taking views and superb archeological sites along the way. The trip was a good blend of walking, site visits, relaxing and swimming. The gulet was very comfortable and spacious, fabulous food and great company in our fellow travellers and guides. Peter really brought the places we visited to life and nothing beats having a guide with excellent local knowledge of the area. Peter and Cem are a great team! One of our best holidays ever.

This holiday was really well planned and led. The walking was demanding for me but manageable with stunning views . Peter, the leader was very interesting recounting the history of the sites visited in a very accessible manner. The gulet was spacious and comfortable with good nutritious and tasty food. The tour manager was excellent and it was all very enjoyable. I really recommend this trip.

An archaeologist who brought the rich history of this region to life.

This was our second trip with Peter Sommers Travel, up from 7 days to 14, but any reservations we may have had about repeating the experience, evaporated on day one as we realized once again that we were in the capable hands of a skilled team and crew, and travelling with a group of like minded guests. All aspects of the trip were undertaken with expertise and competence, from accommodation, transport, and shore excursions to food, wine and swimming. If you share our interests of sailing and archaeology, we highly recommend these tours - we may even meet you on board!

Peter, on visiting our first archaeological site, explained that it was his challenge to make these sites come alive for us. He succeeded admirably. His apparently limitless knowledge and boundless enthusiasm were ever present. At times I almost felt sorry for this mountain goat of a guide tethered to a group of old fogies! He could have told us and shown us so much more if only we had been able to keep up! Well done Peter and your superb team!
