On Foot - Camino de Santiago by Camino Companions, 9 Jul 2018

A well-prepared walking pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela in northern Spain.

A group of eight mature ladies walked 142 km to Santiago over six days. The additional information and local maps provided by the tour operator were clear and well used. Our hosts were all obliging, friendly and offered us different menus for breakfast and dinner. We stayed in a variety of local hotels or farmhouses, all with ensuite rooms, within a short distance from the well-marked Camino to Santiago route. The additional information and local maps provided by the tour operator were clear and well used. Our hosts were all obliging, friendly and offered us different menus for breakfast and dinner. Unfortunately we used the facilities to dry clothing at the end of some days but one was helpful and mended a walking pole for us too.

Rating for tour operator:

On Foot Holidays of Salisbury provided a friendly, professional and thoroughly-researched package for us and our needs. They were very happy for us to visit the office and discuss any concerns that we had; emails and phone calls were answered quickly and efficiently. The walking packs they provide are comprehensive and clear, giving detailed background information, guidance notes and the mobile number for the English-speaking local contact, who responded when needed.

A five day walk in the Yorkshire Dales

We walked an unguided five day walk organised by On Foot Holidays. A steep and rugged climb up to a hilltop called Simon's Seat on the first day gave wonderful views of the landscape to follow. The walks then took us through a variety of landscapes; high moorland and low, lush vales often walking beside rivers and through fields of wild flowers and sheep. The highlight was climbing above Malham Tarn and then descending to Malham Cove on day four. Each night was spent in a carefully selected village on the route, staying in small but charming inns and hotels offering a variety of delicious food. We were blessed with glorious weather all week which added to the enjoyment of the walking and the views.

Rating for tour operator:

The team at On Foot Holidays went out of their way to assist with arranging transport at each end of the walk. Their walking guide notes and maps were clear and easy to understand, such that we never felt in danger of becoming lost. On Foot's local back-up team were also keen to assist with phoned advice and recommendations the evening before we set off. The team were always friendly, the luggage arrangements smooth and the pre-booked accommodation always welcoming. We have completed 3 previous unguided walks with this Operator and continue to enjoy every part of the experience, from the planning to the actual walking.

On Foot Holidays - El Priorat by Ishbel, 27 Jun 2018
Holiday Rating:

A challenging but immensely satisfying walk in El Priorat, Catalonia.

We did a 10 day self guided walked from Montblanc to Porrera. This is a little visited area of Spain and we were almost alone on the trails in spectacular scenery. While more challenging that I expected, the weather was good, the wild flowers in bloom, and it was a wonderful holiday. We spent an extra day at the end to do some wine tasting at the excellent Cal Pla Cellar.

This is my second On Foot holiday and again I was very impressed by the level of support they gave us. Their selection of accommodation is also very good. I will certainly use them again.

On Foot Holidays - Andalucia by Jazzy-B, 26 Jun 2018
Holiday Rating:

Tough but very rewarding (and spectacular) hiking!

We loved our off the grid Andalucian hiking holiday. Really couldn't fault it. The organisation was top-knotch and the accommodation was better than we'd expected. The scenery was gorgeous and we pretty much never saw another soul for the entire 8 days - exactly what we'd hoped for, and would definitely sign on for another one!

On Foot Holidays - Bohemia by Happy walker from Bath, 25 Jun 2018
Holiday Rating:

Wonderful walking in the Czech Republic

On Foot holidays provided a wonderful self guided walking itinerary in Northern Bohemia - through a geologically spectacular area known as the Česke Raj (“Czech Paradise”). The walks were varied from easy to strenuous but all perfectly described. Accommodation was comfortable with Hrubá Skála castle a thrilling place to stay. There was plenty of back up information and advice before and during the walking. On Foot has very fine customer service ...

Challenging and rewarding trip to stunning Northern Portugal

My husband and I did a short hiking trip through Northern Portugal with On Foot Holidays. The preparation was very well done, and the landscape was unmatched! We had a lovely time, and when we ran into travel hiccups On Foot's local contact was incredibly helpful.

On Foot Holidays - Liguria by HelenGW, 18 Jun 2018
Holiday Rating:

Exhilarating walking holiday on top of the world in the Ligurian hills in Italy

A self guided walking holiday into unspoilt Northern Italy. This really is rural with few towns and villages along the route and each day spent blissfully walking along high ridges with spectacular views. It ends at the sea in a delightful seaside town - carefully chosen as an unspoilt gem of a place where you can relax and swim. Wonderful food and drink all along the way.

On Foot Holidays have proved themselves over and over again and I can always trust that the holiday they offer is up to their very high standards of preparation and attention to detail. They manage to take you right into the heart of local hospitality without sacrificing quality of accommodation, off the beaten track without getting lost, fabulous food without putting on a pound and away from it all without any worries. I can't wait to do the next one.

On Foot Holidays - Lake Maggiore by JS, 12 Jun 2018
Holiday Rating:

Wonderful walk near Lake maggiore

We did the new On Foot walk from Lake Maggiore to Lake Orta in northern Italy. Walking 4 to 5 hours a day it was a combination of fairly easy climbs, largely in forest, with wonderful views and good accommodation. With a leisurely pace there was time to enjoy the surroundings and there are many other things to do in the area. While not as long or difficult as other On Foot walks we have done we really enjoyed the area and the environment.
