A perfect mix of adventure, exercise, relaxation, culture and local food.

We walked as a couple in the unspoiled countryside of Cilento, at times by the coast and other times inland following the detailed instructions on the App provided. The scenery was superb and the walks were interesting. The level of difficulty was as described by On Foot so there were no unexpected challenges! The hotels were thoughtfully chosen to be comfortable and welcoming, and to give a flavour of the "real" Cilento. Our luggage was moved between hotels for us. At the suggestion of On Foot we took the opportunity to visit the Greek and Roman temples at Paestum at the end of our walking holiday, and also added on a couple of nights in Naples allowing us to visit the archaeological site at Herculaneum.

Rating for tour operator:

On Foot organised the route, accommodation and transfers and we felt confident in their hands. (We organised travel to the start of the walk ourselves, with useful guidance from On Foot). The information was all provided on an easy to use App, which included route notes and maps, GPS tracking (so we couldn't get lost!), travel information, suggestions about where to eat out as well as a host of other useful information about the area and points of interest. We knew that we also had local back up by phone if any problems should arise (which they did not!). We would highly recommend On Foot as a tour operator, who always go the extra mile to make sure their customers get the experience they were hoping for. We have not been disappointed in the 15 years we have been walking with On Foot.

We loved every inch, every view and bed of our Slovenian Highlands trek with On Foot Holidays

We met up with our Australian walking friends in Ljubljana and met Miha, our "man on the ground". I had texted him beforehand. Having this contact was so helpful and solved the how-do-I-get-started-mystery. Miha drove us to Kranska Gorda, our starting point. . He knew the area well and took us up to a mountain pass and explained a bit of the grim history. The daily walks were well planned and clearly explained 3 ways: written text, the App and hard copy maps. These were not "walks in the park" with clear way marking and did require our attention to detail and some re-tracking. Each day's trek was planned well and we could tell that the instructions were written by someone who actually knew the trails. All of the logistics: the luggage transport, the taxi pickups, etc. worked perfectly. We usually took more time than estimated because of constant photography and the fact that we're in our late 70's/early 80's and our Australian friends are in their early 60's. Fortunately the terrain in the Julian Alps allowed us to stay two nights in each location. The accommodations: we loved each place: a hotel, a small apartment for each of us., upstairs bedrooms in a large house and a former convent. The hosts were extraordinarily personal and helpful, especially with regard to our soaking wet boots. At the house, we came during the host's husband's 65th birthday, but she treated us as if we were the most important guests. The food: It was delicious. The App gave restaurant suggestions that were excellent and when food (breakfast, bag lunches and dinner) were provided we were overwhelmed by the quality and quantity. The App: this was an amazing technological triumph. We have worked with five other walking companies over the years and OFH nailed this one. The introduction video explained how to use it; we referred to it all the time. And it worked! The big plastic sleeves looked silly around our necks, but, again, they worked well. Over the years were have had maps and directions that dissolved in the rain. Not this time.. We have taken self guided walks in Australia, Japan, England, Wales, Spain, France. So we bring a lot of experience to this walk. We are planning our second walk with OFH for the fall of 2025.

Rating for tour operator:

From my first inquiry about hikes in Slovenia, OFH hit a positive note with us: they suggested that we take the Slovenian Highlands route, based on our experience. Then they helped us combine our dual booking into one and pay separately. Setting up bookings, arranging the finance and international funds is complicated at best, but OFH has integrated those things seamlessly. I was the team leader, so to speak, but OFH quickly answered inquiries from me and my Australian as well. Our communications with OFH were both personal and professional--as if they really knew us. I made some mistakes along the way in managing on my end and was nicely corrected. They were careful about who and when to send our separate Holiday Packages. I was between Seattle and Boston making things on my end complicated. However, after telling OFH about this issue, DHL took a photo of my package being hand delivered to my tenant living in our Boston house so we knew it was delivered. I know these are small details but OFH never missed a beat. Finally, OFH gave us additional materials that were helpful, e.g. personal itinerary summary booklet and an historical summary booklet.

Basque Pyrenees by April O, 13 Jun 2025

Exceptional communication and support for a stunning walk through pastoral beauty with lovely people

The people at On Foot Holidays knocked it out of the park (that's a good thing for people who don't appreciate baseball references!)! For initial communications and planning to executing the trip, every detail was clear and clean and the process was easy. This set up and the incredible Basque Pyrenees and its inhabitants (4 and 2-legged) added to the splendor of this trip. The walks were long - but very doable in a day and took us through some ...

For initial communications and planning to executing the trip, every detail was clear and clean and the process was easy. This set up and the incredible Basque Pyrenees and its inhabitants (4 and 2-legged) added to the splendor of this trip. The walks were long - but very doable in a day and took us through some of the most peaceful and serene landscapes. Coming from the US, we were amazed by how well cared for the lands were. We saw literally one piece of litter in 7 days of walking. These people respect and take care of the lands that takes care of them. They could teach the rest of us something.

Rating for tour operator:

The people at On Foot Holidays were the best of any booking service we have ever dealt with. Great communication, planning, execution and just a pleasure to interact with. We have already recommended them to friends - who I am confident will be in touch.

A Walking Holiday in the South of France --- The Dordogne Valley

My wife and I made a 6-day walking tour of the Dordogne region of France. Our tour operator was "On Foot Holidays" which we used for a previous self-directed walking tour of the Dorset region of England. The walks were bucolic, well-marked, and beautiful. Varied scenery was the norm, ranging from pastoral vistas to moderate climbs, cascading waterfalls, and quaint villages. Accommodations at the end of the day provided a warm welcome for us ...

Accommodations at the end of the day provided a warm welcome for us as well as a delicious dinner and a warm and comfortable bed. The next morning we had breakfast and most of the hotels provided a packed lunch too! Despite not being French-speakers, we had virtually no problems with communication. We simply loved our time in "the Dordogne" and look forward to our next adventure with "On Foot Holidays".

Rating for tour operator:

We discovered "On Foot Holidays" on an Internet search looking for self-directed walking holidays. The web site was the most organized and helpful of all the companies we reviewed. Communication with OFH was easy and always helpful. Further, there was a sense of true caring and wanting to do the very best for us. Responses were always personal. It felt as if we were part of a "family". All aspects of the trip were exceedingly well-organized ranging from the accommodations to the taxi service for transporting our luggage as well at times ourselves. There was voluminous background information provided about what we might see along the way as well as historical information that provided a real context for what we were seeing. OFH also provided information as to how we were to get from the airport to our initial destination as well as information on getting from our last destination to the airport. OFH provided an App that all pertinent information was available with the click of our iPhone, and it also had details about our daily walks and a GPS function that ensured that we never were at risk of getting lost. I have nothing but the highest praise for the organization and people that power this tour operator. It is of the highest caliber.

Great walks and scenery. Excellent breakfasts and lunches. Great support and App from On Foot.

We started in Zahara and finished in Ronda. We found the walks suitable for our fitness level and the good weather helped to make it a success. Trip of a Lifetime

We love traveling to “untouristy” destinations and this certainly fit the bill. The rural areas we traveled through were quiet, peaceful, and had beautiful scenery. The two coastal towns we stayed in were also lovely and offered a nice balance of cafes, restaurants, etc set against the backdrop of the sea. We traveled in the spring so there was an abundance of spring wildflowers on our walks. Several times we would encounter old, abandoned stone houses in the countryside surrounded by a field of flowers. Often, we would walk along fields that included olive trees, lemon trees, and grape vines. Interspersed were quaint, unspoiled hillside villages. The accommodations were wonderful. Our hosts were warm and friendly. The food was great and the places we stayed were very comfortable. We had such a good time that we are already looking at options for our next hike with On Foot Holidays.

Rating for tour operator:

I cannot say enough about how great On Foot Holidays is. If we had a question, someone would usually get back to us within their workday. The only time the response was next day was due to the time difference between the UK and the US. And, shout out to Fiona who spent about 45 minutes on the phone with us once to describe a specific route we were considering! How often does that happen? Everyone we communicated with were friendly and extremely professional.

There were also side ventures from visiting a Medieval Castle to exploring massive underground caves. All of the logistics were impeccably organized. The hotels and inns we stayed at made us feel welcome and we met some bright souls along the way. The food we ate was also fabulous as it included some Michelin restaurants. The weather was very good with only one day of rain, and the rest generally sunny and warm.

Rating for tour operator:

OnFoot was super friendly, organized and helpful before during and after our trip. Everything went according to plan. The walking instructions were clear and the app they provided was helpful and kept us on track. The accomodations were varied but all enjoyable in their own way. The local contact was always available to help during our travel and we took advantage of this a couple of times to help arrange short cuts and trips to visit some sights.

Cornwall (Land's End Circuit) by David from Ottawa Canada, 9 Jun 2025

England: Cornwall (Lands End Circuit)

A marvelous walking holiday mostly along the Cornwall coastal path. Inspired to visit Cornwall by the television show 'Doc Martin'. Walking the coastal path is magnificent: historic small towns, beautiful scenery, history, etc. The path is well marked, maintained, signed and spotlessly clean. People of Cornwall were welcoming, friendly and helpful. Very nice accommodation provided along the route.

My third holiday with On Foot and as with the others, it is meticulously prepared. The range of accommodation is always welcome and interesting, the hosts provide excellent customer service as does the local contact. The views, the quiet, the spring flowers and bird song remain long after returning. Thank you for these memories.
