Botany in Teesdale
A botany trip to Teesdale with an excellent guide - professional, knowledgeable, flexible and fun to be with. The rest of the (small) group were also good companions. I learned a lot and we saw and identified some wonderful plants.

Naturetrek. I had travelled with them on botany trips twice before and have also booked another trip in 2019.

Naturetrek Birding Tour to Madeira & Desertas Islands
An organised birdwatching trip to see the endemic and near endemic species of Madeira and the Desertas Islands

Rating for tour operator:

I have travelled with Naturetrek on several previous occasions and find their organised birdwatching tours very pleasurable. They are well organised, and are quick to adjust tour itinerary's when needed. The accommodation is always very good and appropriate to the location. Both their own tour guides and the local guides that they use are always of the highest quality. This tour was no exception and I would, and have, recommended Naturetrek to others birdwatchers and friends without hesitation.

We have taken twelve trips with Naturetrek over many years including Europe, Africa, Asia and South America. All have been excellently led and highly successful in terms of the wildlife seen and the overall experience. Naturetrek are our first choice for wildlife holidays.

Britain at its best
The holiday was extremely well organised. The two leaders and mini bus drivers were very knowledgeable and safe considerate drivers. The tour was flexible to take account of the weather but all went ahead as planned. There were extra early morning forays for anyone enthusiastic enough. The trip took in all the main areas of interest.

The knowledge of the two leaders complimented each other into several aspects of nature including flowers, and insects as well as the birds. They lead with a soft touch but possessed authority if it had been required. Their local knowledge was outstanding and their organisational skills had been well honed by experience.

Great trip for Bulgarian Wildflowers
The trip had both a UK-based leader and a local Bulgarian naturalist. Both were highly experienced and were knowledgeable about where to find particular species and to give on-the-spot IDs for the vast majority. In addition, there were consistently helpful and fostered good relationships within the group throughout the tour. Everything worked seamlessly, including giving a recommendation for a convenient and comfortable hotel in Sofia, where we spent 2 nights before the tour started. I was completely satisfied about the whole experience.

Breathtakingly magical
The wide open vistas dotted with stunning French villages and Rocky Mountains was like entering a different world populated by soaring eagles and bright coloured butterflies. We heard and saw skylarks and yellowhammers clouded Apollo Butterflies and meadows full of flowers dotted by orchids and soaring Swallow tails.Even a beaver appeared one evening and made itself clear on the river bank.

An ecologically insightful and well organised group whose tour guides were knowledgeable and witty and kind and considerate to their group of golden oldie tourists however well travelled they might be.

Romanian / Transylvanian wildlife
A fabulous introduction to this un-spoilt corner of Europe. The flora and fauna were exceptional and the scenery dramatic - as was the weather in June! A small group who quickly gelled so that everyone participated and learnt from each other - whether experts in their area or not.

Naturetrek offer a wide range of holidays around the world and I have travelled with them a number of times. I have enjoyed these experiences greatly and will be booking with them again.,

A wildlife extravaganza high in the Carpathian Mountains
Based high in the mountains, far away from any towns, we were surrounded by beautiful wild flower meadows which attracted a large variety of butterfly species. Any spare moment at the hotel was spent scanning the surrounding mountainsides for chamoix, brown bears and roe deer. There was birdlife aplenty. Every day saw us walking in the hills (sometimes rather challenging for me), and our local rep would magically appear with an appetising picnic ...

Any spare moment at the hotel was spent scanning the surrounding mountainsides for chamoix, brown bears and roe deer. There was birdlife aplenty. Every day saw us walking in the hills (sometimes rather challenging for me), and our local rep would magically appear with an appetising picnic lunch way off the beaten track. My fellow travellers made the trip all the more enjoyable, and the knowledge, expertise and enthusiasm of our tour leader and local guides was second to none. And who can forget our evening in the hide with 4 beautiful brown bears feeding so close to us .....?
Rating for tour operator:

Everything ran as expected. The guesthouse was good and in a perfect location. Local guides were friendly, helpful & knowledgeable. Our tour leader had excellent expertise in all aspects of wildlife and the area. The local rep had interesting stories to keep us amused about local history, myths & culture (and also, with her mother, produced excellent picnics!).

Romania and the Danube delta in June 2018
We had a great time in Romania this year. We visited a whole host of different places and were lucky enough to see a range of native wildlife including bears, birds, wild cats, reptiles, butterfly's, insects and flora. The places we visited offered a glimpse into the natural history, geology and geography of this fascinating area. We stayed on a floating hotel in the Danube Delta. The places we visited offered a glimpse into the natural history, geology and geography of this fascinating area. We stayed on a floating hotel in the Danube Delta. The time here was interspersed with trips out on a smaller boat to explore the small channels and lakes. Many species of frogs and birds live here. My personal highlights were the stone curlew and the little sousliks seen out in the steppes area near to the floodplains of Tulcea

The tour operator was very knowledgeable about the flora and fauna of the area. He was very skilled at spotting wildlife and included everyone in the group, accommodating each persons' interests and questions in a friendly and patient way. I learned a lot and would recommend the tour.
