Naturetrek were very organised and helpful in all aspects of yhe tour, very mindful of the eco responsibility of the trip and ensuring a rewarding experience. Their choice of a local guide was also well made, he proved to be the key to its success

A great, birdful weekend

From the time of arrival to the time of departure all our plans were fulfilled. We went to a good variety of interesting birding sites and saw everything that was there to be seen. Our guide (Brian Small) was brilliant. He knew all the places to go and ensured each one of us had the best experience. I loved it all.

Everything was clearly advertised and explained beforehand. A good report was available within a couple of days of arrival at home. All was good.

Immersive wildlife experience

We stayed in the Carpathian Mountains to explore the limestone gorges, spot the wallcreepers and view the brown bears living in the forest. This is where the immersive wildlife experience really begins, surrounded by tall reed beds and a wealth of wildlife including large flocks of white and Dalmatian pelicans in the open water areas. Finally we travelled to the Black Sea to paddle in the shallows and spot some seashore birds to add to our extensive list of around 166 birds.

Our NatureTrek guide and our local Romanian guide were knowledgeable, accommodating and very good company. The local guide knew all the best birding spots and timed our visits perfectly to encounter an optimum number of species.

First-class snorkelling

WE took a boat from Bali, went snorkelling all the way to Komodo and back and saw the Komodo dragons. The accommodation on the boat (Mermaid I) was excellent, the food was great and the lectures provided excellent and very interesting

Amazing birdwatching in the Carpathian Mountains and the Danube delta!

We chose this holiday as our honeymoon as my new husband and I are both keen birdwatchers. It was our first ever organised holiday - we normally make all of the arrangements ourselves. We chose this holiday as our honeymoon as my new husband and I are both keen birdwatchers. It was our first ever organised holiday - we normally make all of the arrangements ourselves. That meant we were a little worried about how it would go, but it ended up being amazing. Andy and Florin, our two guides, were clear communicators throughout the holiday, and they were excellent at sharing their knowledge. We also had the benefit of being part of a group of other knowledgeable nature lovers and we learnt so much. We saw more bird species in 10 days in Romania than we had in 18 months of birdwatching in the UK! Almost every trip we went out on resulted in us seeing multiple lifers, and across the whole holiday we saw over 60 species which were new to us, and a total of over 160 species. The Danube delta was a particularly magical place, and Florin and Ibis Tours, Naturetrek’s local partner, organised everything so well that it ran completely smoothly and we never had to worry about anything. We would highly recommend this tour to anyone who is interested in birdwatching.

Rating for tour operator:

We were given clear information at all points in the booking process and throughout our holiday, including getting help with extending our holiday by two extra days in Bucharest. The whole process was smooth and easy.

Excellent bird-watching in Andalucia

All inclusive, guided bird-watching holiday in Andalucia, Spain, with Naturetrek. Focus was on the birds migrating to Africa across the Straits of Gibralter. Exclusive accommodation in a secluded farm. Toured the area with 2 excellent, expert local naturalists, in 2 mini-buses. Holiday included boat trip in the Straits to view whales, dolphins and sea-birds. Everything well organised and went smoothly.

Rating for tour operator:

Naturetrek is a wildlife tour operator, specialising in bird-watching but also covering mammals, plants etc. Tours available worldwide, usually employing local experts in addition to a Naturetrek guide. Holidays are all inclusive. Accommodation is usually in a rural guest-house / hotel with limited menu eating, but always excellent quality. Very good value for money.

A thrilling experience

We spent a week in the Monterey Bay area, California, watching particularly marine mammals and birds both on land and in the water. We had five boat trips during the week, with many sightings of humpback whales, dolphins, sealions, sea otters, and birds. On land we saw elephant seals in great numbers on the beach, flocks of seabirds and many other native species. It was a truly wonderful trip.

Naturetrek's Niki Williamson & Simon Tonkin, our two guides, were extremely passionate about the subject. Their knowledge was encyclopaedic, but their inter-person skills were such that they communicated their answers to questions from the group in such a way that whether you were a nubie to the world of ornithology (like me), or a budding David Attenborough, it was pitched perfectly.

From start to finish the holiday was brilliant and well organised, The accomodation and the meals were excellent and a real Spanish experience rather than just what you would get in a hotel. The bird watchimg, led by to very knowledgable and helpful guide was superb.
