Walking perfection

A perfect weeks adventure walking the Dales Way. Wonderful scenery and welcoming hospitality, all without leaving the trail.

Splendid walking holiday along Hadrian's Wall

As part of our retirement trip, we decided to go on a planned walk, a bucket list item for me. As part of our retirement trip, we decided to go on a planned walk, a bucket list item for me. After researching the many companies who offered walks, we chose Mickledore because of the thoughtfulness of their website, and because they had a Hadrian's Wall Walk timeframe we could fit into our greater travel plans. Being our first planned walk, we weren't sure what to expect: Would we sacrifice the quality of lodging we generally expect because we allowed someone else to make the decisions; Would we have trouble getting our bags on time; If there were days we didn't want to walk the entire 10-12 miles, was there an "out"? Mickledore has designed their voluminous information packet to answer these questions and more. We immediately felt more confident once we read their information packet, which gave us information about everything we might have wondered (and a few things we weren't experienced enough to ask). We found the accommodations to be thoughtful and of very good quality; the hosts to be pleasant and experienced; and the maps and accompanying trail information to be comprehensive. For folks worried committing to a 10 - 12 mile a day hike to be too ambitious, please know it is ambitious; but Mickledore's walking information helped us identify areas fun and interesting to walk, and areas where a bus or taxi would help us shave some miles. Hadrian's Wall has a good bus system that stops at main sites, which makes it easy to skip areas with little walking interest (like the 50th sheep pasture on your journey). One of our favorite things about this walk was meeting others who were on a wall walk as well. We'd hoped to experience the camaraderie of meeting folks on the experience, and found it better than we could have imagined.

Rating for tour operator:

Mickledore provided us everything we needed as newcomers to the trail walking experience. They answered questions we didn't even know we had and made great suggestions about restaurants, sites, etc. Had I decided to set up my own wall walk (something I initially considered doing), I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have found the level of accommodations Mickledore arranged for us, as the choices were obviously made based on connections with the hosts and much feedback from walkers. Because we had such a great initial experience with Mickledore in setting up our trip, our daughter and husband will be taking Mickledore Cotswolds Walk in July this year, and have already found Mickledore's help with some specific requests to be invaluable. We will definitely return to Mickledore as our planned walk choice in the future (Lake District?)

Walking Tour of the Lake District

A walking tour of the Lake District starting and ending in Bowness on Windermere. We added extra days at Wasdale Head, Buttermere and Grasmere in order to walk on the nearby high fells.

We have booked three walking holidays with Mickledore now; Scotland's West Highland Way, the Inn Way to the Lake District and, most recently the Tour of the Lake District. Mickledore's service is excellent. We told them were we wanted to stay overnight and they arranged everything, including transfer of our luggage, perfectly. The B&Bs we stayed in were very good indeed.

St Cuthbert's Way walking holiday with Mickledore

We had a fantastic time from start to finish, aided by some lovely warm sunny days. We completed the St. Cutherbert's Way walk over 7 days, which broke to walk into manageable sections. The route takes you through some lovely scenery, and it was a very enjoyable and tranquil experience.

Rating for tour operator:

Given that we only decided to take this holiday about 3 weeks before our window of opportunity, Mickledore couldn't have been more helpful, especially after other similar operators had failed to offer us anything at all. There was only one compromise we felt forced into, but in the end it turned out to be be no problem at all, and a brilliant solution in the circumstances. The accommodation, varied and sometimes 'quirky', was always fit for purpose, and in some cases perfect. Hosts for our final 2 nights at Ty Boia in St Davids were wonderful and inspirational.

Flawless service.

My party walked the "Hadrian's Wall Highlights" over 4 days. Mickledore Travel's expertise in choosing excellent B&B's along the way was very much in evidence: we had excellent service at all points along the way with personable hosts and delightful meals. The luggage was collected each morning and was waiting for us each evening when we reached our destination; tired but relaxed. My second experience with Mickledore: highly recommended!

Hadrian‘s Wall in 7 Days with Mickledore

We walked Hadrian‘s Wall from Newcastle to Bowness in 7 days. We were very lucky with the weather, because we had sunshine every day even though it was April. It was an absolute dream holiday, thanks in large part also to the wonderful organisation by Mickledore.

We had a wonderful time during this holiday. Accommodation and luggage transport as well as transport to the accommodation when necessary was organised and arranged by Mickledore and it went without a hitch the entire time. The B&Bs chosen were of a high quality and really let you relax after the long walks. The dinner suggestions were very helpful. The team was always friendly and helpful when we had some issues while booking the holiday. I would absolutely recommend them for any walking tour bookings in the UK.
