Rating for tour operator:

McKinlay Kidd staff were very friendly helpful and understanding as my wife and I are both senior citizens and don't know how to deal with social networking therefore I had to phone for advice on several occasions each situation was handled and broken down into simple format so we could understand. We cannot express how good this company are and would highly recommend them to anyone thinking of using them as everything on our trip was first class from the beginning to journeys end.We will use them without hesitation in the future.

Perfect Get Away

An excellent trip in a different part of the UK. No crowds, easy driving, lots of scenery and wildlife. We stayed in a varied range of small hotels and B & B's all with welcoming hosts, comfort and excellent food. All the pre-booked ferries and accommodation worked like clockwork. It was of course a bit dreak at times (wet and very windy) but it all adds to the atmosphere. If you like birds don't miss the RSPB reserve at Balranald.

Beaches and bogs en route to Thurso

After a morning in the city we boarded the afternoon Far North Line to Thurso, taking in the sites along the coast and through the blanket bog. A taxi was waiting to take us to our B and B where we spent two nights before crossing over to Orkney on the ferry. WE spent the afternoon in Kirkwall visiting the museum, the docks and the wonderful shops. The next day we were collected by a very knowledgeable lady who took us to the main archaealogical sites, St. MAgnus Cathedral, the Italian chapel, the Churchill barriers and Scapa Flow. A very good way of learning about Orkney in a short visit. All too son it was time to do the return journey, though with just as much fun!

Rating for tour operator:

IT was a very efficient set-up, from the initial telephone call through to the confirmation and payment. Shortly before the start of the holiday our documentation and maps arrived via e-mail (though we could have received paper copies). We considered it to be a modern company and look forward to being able to travel with them again.

Scotland by rail

Starting in Glasgow we took trains to Spey Bridge & then on to Arisaig via the Jacobite steam train to Mallaig where we took a full day taxi tour of Glencoe & Glenfinnan monument/viaduct. Then ferry to Sky followed by a full day taxi tour of the island in snowy conditions which served to enhance the stunning scenery. At our suggestion we travelled to Plockton via Eilean Donan castle. Then train to Inverness & after a free day there we moved to Thurso for the Orkney islands. We did a full day tour of the historical sites. Train to Kingussie then two days in Pitlochry & finally terminating in Edinburgh. Train travel is very relaxing. All taxis had been pre arranged & the whole two weeks ran like clockwork regardless of the complexity. The hotels had been carefully & wisely chosen & we would recommend most of these to friends. Some of them served evening meals which represented a gourmet experience. We were most impressed with the detailed holiday arrangements & the flexibility in meeting new requests/changes. We would have no hesitation in recommending this holiday & the company.

Varied, different, well planned

The holiday was carefully thought out giving you time at each venue to see the major sites nearby. Each accommodation was very different and interesting and it was obviously chosen by someone who had actually stayed there from McKinley Kidd.. We asked for the National Trust property Mount Stewart to be included in our itinerary and this was Duly included. Roberts suggestions are always appreciated but do not exclude you investigating things ...

When dealing with planning the holiday we could usually talk to the same person not just someone working from a computer screen. We felt we had personal attention both before the holiday and afterwards when responding to our feedback comments. Last minute modifications to the accommodation were dealt with smoothly and quickly.
