A paradise island in Cuba best enjoyed when taking plenty of ones own supplies

We travelled, the 3 of us from Heathrow to Havana in Cuba (via Paris). The changes in Paris were very chaotic with overcrowding in security, made worse by the fact that at least half of all hand luggage was selected for searching. We stayed at Iberostar hotels. The rooms in the Havana Iberostar Hotel are out of this world - excellent. However, although there is a mini bar, there is nothing in it. I wanted some water and got charged 6 US $ per ...

I wanted some water and got charged 6 US $ per small bottle. Next day we travelled to Hotel Ensenachos which is a hotel on one of the 3 islands called Las Brujas. It is a beautiful hotel and we stayed in one of the villas in their Coral Village. The beaches are quiet, silky golden sand with clear blue water and lined with palm trees, and sun loungers are provided and you can have as many drinks as you like served to you on the beach as it is an all inclusive hotel. At lunch and dinner you can have champagne with every meal. The food however is extremely limited They seem not to have much fruit or fruit juices. The mini bars in the rooms are no longer filled with water or soft drinks which is a problem if you like to make a cup of tea or coffee in the room. ( They did supply water after I made a fuss) Incidentally they had no black tea, only flavoured. I took my own tea, cracker biscuits, sweet biscuits and cheese as a stand-by, and my own cereal. We consumed almost all of it - it was needed. February 2022 holiday.

Rating for tour operator:

The tour operator, Journey Latin America, is generally very efficient. I think however, that they have not received sufficient information regarding changes made in Cuba since the 2020 pandemic when hotels were closed for long periods. There are new policies particularly regarding payments for goods or services.

Off the main track in Mexico

Coyoacan in Mexico City, a charming historic suburb, beautiful colonial Puebla, Coatepec in the cooler coffee growing area, handy for the magnificent museum in Xalapa and the charming and relatively undeveloped (though with the oustanding hotel Casa Que Canta) Pacific town of Zihuatanejo

Amazing trip to Costa Rica

Sophie Barber at JLA planned at very short notice, a 23 day anti-clockwise trip around Costa Rica, which covered all the places we wanted to visit.

Rating for tour operator:

Sophie Barber at JLA is the best travel consultant we have come across. She has planned and arranged several trips for us to Central and South America, and we would not use anyone else for trips to this part of world.

Self Drive East Cuba by Snowdrop, 4 Feb 2022

A driving tour of Cuba

We arrived in Havana and stayed there for 3 days. We loved Havana. We then drove to Vinales, then onto Las Terrazas. Then on to Cienfuegos and Trinidad and then back to Havana. Much of the architecture is beautiful in many places. We enjoyed our time in the rural communities seeing how they lived and farmed. We felt our trip gave us a good insight into the life of Cuba.

Rating for tour operator:

Extremely well organised and efficient company. Nothing too much trouble and helplines in abundance wherever we went. We felt safe and well looked after by such a superb organisation. Their app was fully comprehensible and so very useful. The tour guides and drivers were exceptional and we are seasoned travellers who do not praise lightly except when it is thoroughly deserved.

An interesting holiday in Colombia to a developing country well worth visiting at the moment

We traveled round one of the two "usual" tours of Colombia and had excellent guides and tours of the main sites with a lot of interesting talks to locals about the state of the Country. Optimism is high in some points but very low in others, as is probably to be expected. An attractive and varied country with some good hotels and some excellent food although pizza does seem to be the prevalent food everywhere.

Rating for tour operator:

Journey Latin America gave us various ideas and we gave them our requirements and we thought they had given us what we asked for and chosen well. All their arrangements went as planned with no hitches even with the landslides on the road from Bogota and Villa de Leyva, with alternative arrangements made to use the telecabine across the canyon and meeting us at either end. Their drivers drivers and guides were excellent.
