McKinlay Kidd staff were very friendly helpful and understanding as my wife and I are both senior citizens and don't know how to deal with social networking therefore I had to phone for advice on several occasions each situation was handled and broken down into simple format so we could understand. We cannot express how good this company are and would highly recommend them to anyone thinking of using them as everything on our trip was first class from the beginning to journeys end.We will use them without hesitation in the future.

McKinlay Kidd set up the holiday and did an outstanding job of putting together a memorable and exciting trip. They used first class travel and accomodations with a very reasonable cost and every step of the way was as promised. No delays or problems were encountered during the Scotland adventure.

The itinerary and choice of places to stay are excellent.

I am particularly impressed at the stay of 2 of the places. The cosy family run hotel (Old Pines) at Spean Bridge has great view and enticing organic cuisine. The homemade raspberry jam is simply a gastronomic treasure and compliment to the yummy scone upon your arrival.

The stay at Inverness at a previous residence of Scottish writer Neil Gunn has add a writer to my enjoyable reading experience. The reading of his highland novels has tensified my travel experience in the Scottish highlands. These are the area where local expertize such as McKinlay Kidd has their comparative advantage to other larger operator.

Great holiday despite the weather

This was a rail tour of Scotland from Glasgow to Fort William, Isle of Skye, Inverness, Pitlochry & Edinburgh. My wife and I had a great time even though the weather was wet and windy, particularly when we were on Skye. The hotels were good and the arrangements worked well, even when Scotrail (the rail company) were on strike - the tour operator arranged replacement taxis.

Wonderful experience traveling through Scotland by train!

McKinlay and Kidd scheduled and planned a detailed itinerary for us throughout the Highlands of Scotland. We had specific locations we wanted to visit and wanted to travel exclusively by train. They met our wishes well and added their own recommendations that were very greatly appreciated. All transportation, drivers, taxi's, hotels, train tickets, etc that were promised were delivered. Very dependable and professional. Thank you!

The holiday arranged by McKinlay Kidd seemed to fit our ideas and we were very pleased with the whole trip. The hotels/ guest houses were excellent and all made us very welcome and relaxed. The food was superb wherever we stayed. We had taken a wheelchair for use by one of the party when she was tired and everyone was extremely helpful. The attention to detail on our itinerary provided by Hamish at McKinlay Kidd was excellent, and included assistance at the train stations which he had organised. Our itinerary took in Spean Bridge, Skye (via the Jacobite steam train from Fort William to Mallaig), Inverness, and Pitlochry.

Rating for tour operator:

McKinlay Kidd were excellent. Hamish was very helpful. We were most impressed that a Mckinlay Kidd visit all of the accommodation that they recommend.

Excellent independent tour!

A tour of the Western Scottish Highlands by train and eliminating the need to rent a car. An outstanding itinerary taking advantage of small, historic hotels and highlighting the towns and communities of the Highlands.

Rating for tour operator:

McKinlay Kidd provided detailed information for us to follow; made all of the transportation and lodging arrangements and even added another couple who wanted to join us on our tour. We have always planned all of our own travel and it was a true luxury to "leave the planning" to them. We couldn't have been happier with all of their selections and suggestions.

McKinlay Kidd responded to this review on 22 May 2016:

Thank you very much for your kind comments.

A truly pleasurable trip

Scotland lived up to its reputation. The highlands, the impressive landscapes, the beautiful little nooks and spots in the interiors as well as the cities of Glasgow and Edinburgh helped me and my daughter escape our daily grind and wander in bliss.

Rating for tour operator:

absolutely a pleasure to deal with, this team has helped me enhance my experience - their attention to small details, their selection of properties and destinations especially within the highlands and Robert's tips for exploring each place was hugely helpful. As an experienced traveller, I will definitely recommend them to anyone who would like to explore North of England differently. Thank you very much.
