Beautiful Portugal
Walking in quiet, pristine mountains and hills, in unspoilt country whilst staying in unexpected gems. Beautiful rural accommodation with pools and views. Delicious and great value cuisine. Idyllic.

Fantastic walking in beautiful Northern Portugal booked through the excellent On Foot
Our five days of walking in Northern Portugal surpassed our expectations in terms of the route, scenery and accommodations. The route notes and other material supplied by On Foot - and the general service provided by their office team and local support - were fantastic and we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend both the company and this particular trip.

We were really pleased with the service received from On Foot, they were always on hand to provide us with information and resolved any issues we had quickly and to our satisfaction. The route notes were perfectly detailed and the other handbooks and material provided were also of a high quality. Having a friendly local contact was also something we appreciated. It has also been nice to see how well they respond to feedback.

Cafes and bars with genial owners providing sustinence to weary travellers. Well directed and varied routes through wooded hillsides, deep luxuriant valleys and across open moorland. Much of the route winding its way along the contours following the astonishingly well preserved Roman road with majestic milestones still guiding travellers after c2000 years. Welcoming hosts providing comfortable accomodation in delightful settings always with excellent restaurants nearby offering fine meals comprising local food always accompanied by the locally produced Vinho Verde and for the following day splendid picnic lunches.

They were excellent. Easy booking with knowledgeable advice. Clear written instructions that did not let us down once. We have done many walking holidays but this was the first with GPS. What a clever thing it is and a reassuring back up.

Fantastic self-guided walking holiday with On Foot Holidays
The self-guided Inn-to-Inn walking holiday in Northern Portugal we booked with On Foot Holidays exceeded our expectations in so many ways. The scenery, walking routes and organization of the whole week were taken care of very professionally; we had no issues with any of this and the turn-by-turn instructions ensured we never got lost. We were met every day by friendly staff and our needs were very well taken care.

On Foot Holidays exceeded our expectations and we can highly recommend them. The OFH staff were very responsive and supported us through bookings, postponements and re-bookings and on the walk their meticulous planning and detailed turn-by-turn instructions made sure we were never lost, were met every day by friendly staff and our needs were very well taken care. Their office staff responded to questions very rapidly and their local representative checked the condition of the trails each day and stayed in touch with us at all times.

At all times they took the initiative to communicate with me, both prior to departure, during the trek and afterwards. A local representative was also in touch with me. At one stage of the trek I required a taxi to get me to the next hotel and our representative back in the UK contacted me in Portugal to assist! Excellent!

Northern Portugal
The On Foot Holidays - Northern Portugal Route was our primary reason for visiting Portugal. In addition, we added extra days to explore Porto, the Douro Valley and the Paiva Walkways and 516 Suspension Bridge. The best part was the On Foot Holiday route in Northern Portugal. It was spectacular and interesting. The accommodation was a perfect mix of small and local operators who were so helpful.

This is my second tour with with On Foot Holidays. They are the best! The routes are very well planned. The information and GPSed trails meant we were never lost and were able to confidently explore a wide range of landscapes and cultural attributes of the region. Both On Foot staff in the UK and the local contact were extremely responsive and knowledgeable.

Walking in Northern Portugal
Despite torrential rain most days, we had a glorious 10 days in a part of Portugal that we have long wanted to see. Walking through this beautiful area was the perfect pace for an immersive experience.

We have travelled twice with On Foot and find them to be utterly devoted to what they do so well. They are a conscientious team who plan walking tours which feel off the beaten track but also full of local flavours and colours. We also appreciate the independence they give us - as if we'd planned the walk ourselves.

Exploring rural Portugal
We recently completed a walking trip that took us through small villages in north-western Portugal in October. The route began in Soajo and took us through the Peneda-Geres National Park and on the Roman road. to Santa Maria de Bouro.

We traveled with On Foor Holidays which sets up trips that allow you to travel without a tour guide. The trip was well planned and organized; the extra information provided was helpful in navigating the walks and providing interesting details about the locations being visited. Support services during the walk were available and they made extra efforts to reach out to us with weather updates. Every detail was anticipated in advance, so we were able to enjoy the walk without worry.
