Portugal - The Roman road to the monastery of Santa Maria.
We were a family group of 7 adults hiking from village to village in Northern Portugal near Peneda Geres National Park. On Foot organized a very unique itinerary for us and everything went very smoothly with transportation, baggage, etc. We were defnititely off the usual tourist routes and found beautiful scenery, amazing small hotels, and friendly hosts.

Very well organized, responsive, easy to communicate with. Their GPS hiking app was great. They also provided us with a local contact for questions/problems who was very helpful.

Gorgeous Portugal
We had limited time so we took a shortened version of OnFoot Holidays Northern Portugal route beginning in Brufe and ending in Santa Maria Do Bouro. The route was well-marked, the instructions clear, and the views were outstanding. We appreciated the meticulous attention to detail from the OnFoot staff with lodging, food options and transportation to and from the planned walk. They planned the trip so well that it was highly enjoyable.

I noted some of this above - the tour operator was responsive to questions, and provided timely answers. All aspects of the walk had been attended to - all we needed was to use the information provided and all else was taken care of!

A journey of discovery through the Peneda-Gerês National Park in northern Portugal. Dramatic hill sides and valleys frame the country side as you walk along the ancient paths trodden by Roman soldiers.
This trip more than delivered on expectations. An undiscovered area of Northern Portugal that feels truly authentic. Fabulous scenery walking through forests and valleys, with far reaching views across the country side. Some outstanding accommodation and just lovely people looking after us all the way. The Roman road on the route to Campo Geres was a real highlight. Our group of eight voted it our best On Foot trip so far.

As always On Foot delivered and more on our expectations. Great in house attention to meet all the varied needs of our group of 8 and a delightful group of helpers in Portugal who looked after us on the ground.

Delightful hiking in northern Portugal
We spent about a week hiking in northern Portugal. We enjoyed the countryside - a combination of farms and more wild mountains. Accommodations were excellent and food was good. Trip logistics were well planned and we encountered excellent hospitality along the way. We enjoyed the quiet of the route (only saw 3 other hikers the whole time).

The tour was very well organized with an extensive paper packet and all pertinent daily information available on our phones, including GPS navigation. On Foot Holidays saw to all the details, providing good recommendations for our dinners (even taxi to restaurant one night) as well as including excellent lunches for the trail.

Wonderful Walk in Geres Peneda National Park, Portugal
Everything was terrific! The accommodations were all in special lodges. Food was great throughout. The walk was lovely and well-laid out with good technical support from On Foot Holidays. Even the weather cooperated.

On Food provided great assistance, including reviewing the walking route after forest fires in the region to make sure it was still safe and scenic.

A lovely week hiking in Northern Portugal's national park
We spent 8 days walking in northern Portugal, most of which was in the Peneda-Geres national park, staying in B&B's, charming guest houses, small hotels, and the elegant Pousada Santa Maria do Bouro. We enjoyed walking on mountain paths, Roman roads, and rural tracks through small villages, farms, and vineyards. OnFoot office staff were very responsive to all our questions, the pre-booking materials were helpful, and the on-trip App and trail notes provided more than sufficient guidance to ensure easy navigation. The selection of accommodations was first-rate, varying from comfortable B&B's with lovely hosts to lodging in a restored monastery/pousada. The local contact was always available the couple of times we had questions. The tour pricing provided good value for the experience. We'd travel with On Foot again.

This Is the Real Portugal
Walking in northern Portugal is a treat not to pass up. Unique villages, gorgeous landscapes/vistas and people who are always welcoming. Interesting architecture amid spring flowers and always flowering orange and lemon trees. This just might be paradise.

A Journey of Warm Encounters, Wild Landscapes and Quiet Wonders
This holiday was much more than a walk – it was a journey through generous landscapes and equally generous hospitality. We were deeply touched by the people we met, the care behind every detail, and the quiet beauty along the way. We returned with a head full of memories and a heart full of gratitude.
