Wonderful hiking across the Ligurian Hills

A group of 9 Australian women hiked from Montalto Pavese to Camogli across the Ligurian Hills in May/June of this year. It was a fabulous holiday and although challenging at times due to the weather, we had the determination & the gear to see it through. The remoteness of the hike was very appealing, the countryside was beautiful and the weather on the whole was great. We loved walking towards the coast and finishing it with a swim in Camogli ...

The remoteness of the hike was very appealing, the countryside was beautiful and the weather on the whole was great. We loved meeting the local Italian people when we arrived at the end of the day, so friendly and welcoming.

The team from ON FOOT HOLIDAYS were fabulous to deal with. We booked our holiday a long time in advance and there were many emails exchanged in the time leading up to departure day. Simon and his team answered every email promptly, politely and nothing was too much trouble. They supplied us with plenty of information about the trip and also supplied us with extra information re train timetables etc, possible excursions, restaurants etc in the places we stayed. Their "on the ground " contacts were fabulous and replied very promptly when we required an urgent pickup of one of our party due to illness. One of our party has used this company many times and recommended them to us. Simon and his team were very professional and extremely friendly & easy to deal with . They also requested feedback which I gave and it was accepted gracefully. We have done many hikes and sometimes feedback is not accepted gracefully, there was no really negative feedback to give as it was such a successful hike . I would have no hesitation in recommending Simon and his team at On Foot Holidays.

On Foot Holidays - Liguria

This 67- and 70-year-old couple gravitates toward hikes that are at once beautiful and remote, and this tour fit the bill perfectly. To our delight, we rarely ran into other hikers. The route led through some quite rugged areas that challenged our fitness, and on two ridge-climb days we hiked through unseasonable conditions of snow, wind, thunder and bog-like mud, but we never felt out of our league, and the views from the ridge-tops were completely worth it. Each lodging felt personal. In fact, we were the only guests at 4 of the 7 accommodations, so we had an intimate visit with the hosts, who spoke enough English to invite lively, charming conversation. Every evening, we feasted on generous dinners highlighting the specialties of Liguria, including a pesto that we're still talking about. At the end of our triumphant downhill march to charming, seaside Camogli, we stood on the beach and high-fived our accomplishments. It was an immersion into a part of Italy we never would have explored otherwise.

Rating for tour operator:

As we planned the trip, On Foot guided us with utter professionalism, immediately responding to our various questions and concerns and tailoring our trip to specific needs. Before the trip, we benefited greatly from the thoughtful and thorough background information and maps which On Foot provided. The directions, maps and GPS they sent for each route were right on the money, and we felt safe and well cared-for from start to finish.

Breathtaking authentic experience

The route selected was a beautiful one and the host accommodation was very good. We did not see many people on the route and it felt as though we genuinely had an authentic window into a Ligurian experience.

They were very responsive to any query, the quality of the track notes was very good and they accurately describe the level of difficulty of the walk. The local contact is also an invaluable safety arrangement. The route selection was excellent.

Some wonderful walks but marred by poor weather

It was well planned and organised by On Foot. The walks were well chosen and the written guides and maps were excellent. The places we stayed at were welcoming and mostly comfortable and the food was excellent. Liguria is beautiful and the views from the ridge were spectacular. We also enjoyed our stay at Camogli on the coast at the end of the Salt Road.

On Foot are invariably efficient, friend and informative. They made sure we were well prepared. and equipped. And the hosting system works well so that we felt we were very well looked after in the various places where we stayed. The holidays are good value.

Great walking route and food complicated by exceptional poor weather

This is an excellent walking route with good and welcoming places to stay offering great Ligurian cuisine. The reason it doesn't get an excellent rating is that we were unlucky to run into the recent exceptionably bad weather in north Italy. That made conditions more challenging than you would expect. But in normal circumstances its an excellent option for experienced walkers

We rate Onfoot Holidays highly. They are knowledgable, responsive and flexible. The self guided routes are well planned with excellent walking instructions and hosts carefully chosen for the welcome they offer

Stunning walk through the Apennines

A challenging seven day walk over 120km through the Apennines, partly on an old Salt Route, from Voghera down to the coast at Camogli. Supported by some excellent AgriTurismos and small hotels, memorable meals and friendly welcomes. The walk takes in some long ridges and a variety of terrain before finishing on the Mediterranean coast.

Rating for tour operator:

On Foot Holidays are the class act in walking holidays. They have researched and developed some challenging routes walking day by day usually with an overall objective. Supported by small hotels, excellent food and friendly local support if you need it. The walking notes and GPS files work well, timings are realistic and there are good options to reduce the walks if you want to do that.

A Really Good Holiday

Well organised, well represented by the information and good varied accommodation. We love combining walking in interesting areas with taking a little longer and visiting a nearby city.

A small independent company that make a real effort to get the details right. They also put on interesting walking options along with the more standard destinations.

Wonderful self guided walk among the Ligurian Hills and then down to the coast

Our holiday was the 7 night, 6 day walking option which we really enjoyed. Part of the route follows the “Via del Sale” (Salt Road). We walked through some stunning scenery and the feeling of walking down to the coast on the last day was quite special. The holiday took us off the beaten track, staying with very friendly hosts. This gave us the opportunity to visit places and meet people we would never find by ourselves. Our bespoke walkers pack was prepared and sent in advance by On Foot and contained excellent useful local information along with extremely accurate route notes for each day's walk. Our luggage was transferred along the way and we stayed at super friendly, family run, excellent farms and hotels. For this walk on most days dinner, breakfast and packed lunches were supplied by our hosts using local ingredients cooked in local ways which is just how we like it.

Rating for tour operator:

This was the 5th walking holiday we have done with On Foot Holidays. As usual the communication, advise and organisation from On Foot was excellent. The On Foot office staff, the local contact and the individual hosts were very friendly and helpful. It was a slightly harder grade than we have done previously. The advise given by On Foot prior to us deciding to book this particular holiday was spot on.

Wonderful walking across the Appenines to the sea

We walked for six days with our bags being carried from place to place. Everything worked exactly as planned, with a very personal service both in each location and from On Foot Holidays
