A Greek road less travelled

Not so in this region, where there is so much to see both historically and scenically. In early summer the place is particularly beautiful and the temperature perfect for sightseeing. The hotels were all carefully chosen, as were the restaurants, and we felt we had a good impression of local life everywhere we went. Highly recommended

Peter Sommer has a wide choice of land and gulet holidays in Greece, Turkey, Italy and Croatia, all accompanied by experts and local guides. Perfect for anyone interested in more than lying on a beach or rushing from A to B without bothering to learn anything

Another great tour with expert guides

Touring the Peloponnese was a deep dive into the archaeology of the region. The guides kept us fascinated as our small group of international travelers toured for 2 weeks. There was lots of opportunity to ask questions on site, on the comfortable bus, and at mealtimes. The hotels were great and daily we had the opportunity to taste a wide variety of regional food specialties. After touring with Peter Sommer in Crete we knew this tour would be equally wonderful. We stayed on in Greece after the tour and the guides were happy to provide information and make suggestions.

Before the tour we could get questions answered and received a complete package of information. The website was up to date. What was promised was delivered and even more as they were able to fit in other experiences that happened to align with our itinerary.

An amazing trip... Peter Sommer Tours are the best I have done with any tour company. Heinrich and Maria both did a wonderful job of informing and exposing each of us to the marvels of the Peloponnese. It was my third Peter Sommer Tour, and, as a testament to the value i place in PST, I have another scheduled for later this year...and I don't expect that it will be my last. The tours are a tremendous avenue to seeing and experiencing not only the history and archaeological significance of so many often remote but key sites, but also the lifestyle and personality of the area's population...which its two-week length easily afforded.

Peter Sommer Tours -- An excellent tour company that is without peer in my experience. Our tour guides were...as they have been all PST tours I have taken...exceptionally qualified to lead this historical/archaeological-oriented tour. Both without question very, very knowledgeable of Greek history, archaeology, geography, and culture. Their outgoing and caring personalities allowed them to easily interact socially as well as professionally with my tour colleagues. Our bus driver and the bus was very comfortable, accessible for loading/unloading, and safely driven on even the most challenging remote Greek roads.

Exploring the Peloponnese

I expected a comfortable tour through an area rich in history and scenery. The actual experience exceeded expectations on all fronts: the comfort levels of transport and accommodation were very high; the history was heavily layered, and superbly illustrated by the guides' commentary on the marvellous sites we visited. The scenery was stunning.

The arrangements made by Peter Sommer's group were all as advertised, with excellent accommodation in well located and comfortable hotels, including some that will remain memorable. The dining was chosen for its regional and local relevance, its quality and, where possible its position and/or charm. The food was very good and the wine was chosen for its regional character and match with the food. Peter Sommer's guides - Heinrich and Maria were very attentive to the various needs and preferences of our group that are inevitable in any diverse group of thirteen. Their knowledge was deep, and their passion for Greece and its history and culture was palpable. They were also talented storytellers, patient educators and good-natured and humorous travelling companions.

exceeded my expectations

Peter Sommers tour of Peloponnesus, May 2018, a place I always wanted to see. I had trouble finding a tour that covered all the places there that I wanted to see. This trip did everything I wanted, and more, and the trip leaders were both knowledgeable, helpful and well-organized. It was a strenuous trip, I'm a "young" 89 but they were very considerate and helpful for me, and I didn't have any problems with the rough terrain and streets.

Beautiful, informative tour of the Peloponnese.

A Peter Sommers tour of the Peloponnese in southern Greece, which turned out to be outstanding in scope, tour-guide expertise, cuisine and tour logistics. A trip of a lifetime.

Professional in arranging the trip, and the tour guides were outstanding in knowledge, professionalism and organization. This was our first tour with Peter Sommers. We have had several trips with another tour operator, Road Scholar, and can say that, given our experience, Peter Sommers was excellent.

Exploring the Peloponnese

Peter Sommer's "Exploring the Peloponnese" tour was a fantastic introduction to an area richer in history and culture than a (typically) mainland focused view of Greece might suggest. It conveyed a real sense of the depth of history here, of the high cultures that were attained, and often lost, and of the conflicts which swept this area. Beyond that, it was beautiful, often even stunning, and far more varied than one might imagine, from the ...

It conveyed a real sense of the depth of history here, of the high cultures that were attained, and often lost, and of the conflicts which swept this area. Beyond that, it was beautiful, often even stunning, and far more varied than one might imagine, from the sun bleached Mani Peninsula to foggy Arcadia. The people were uniformly friendly, welcoming and gracious, and always helpful.

Rating for tour operator:

The guides were excellent. Disentangling the very often complicated history and evolution of some of the sites---Mycenaean right up through the Ottoman era---required an in depth knowledge; importantly, when archaeology or history have failed to provide a clear understanding of "events" the guides did not try to paper over that fact. They are clearly passionate about their work both as guides and scientists. As guests of Peter Sommers we were virtually care free. The quality of the food, the accommodations, and the transportation all exceeded our expectations. I have never been on such a tour before, but will certainly be looking to joining another in the future.

Exploring the Peloponnese

We took the road less traveled and that made all the difference. The Peter Sommer, Tour Exploring the Peloponnese, truly did explore. Most advertised tours don't include the wild Mani area, and don't include hair-raising mountain bus trips through Central Arcadia, or a boat trip through a flooded magical cave where we were like visitors to Hades Underworld led by Chairon. Most advertised tours don't include the wild Mani area, and don't include hair-raising mountain bus trips through Central Arcadia, or a boat trip through a flooded magical cave where we were like visitors to Hades Underworld led by Chairon. We discovered Greek wild-flowers, and Greek wine, local Greek food-dishes (including wild boar). We stayed in delightful and unusual small hotels and visited all the usual sites such as Mycenae, and Olympia but with tour leaders, archaelogists Heinrich and Nota, fallen heaps of stones and massed museum displays came alive as buildings and lifestyles, and the history, icons, and wall paintings of Byzantine churches were explained to a group who of travellers much more familiar with western Art. They opened up a world that all the studying from books cannot give. The only trouble is "I want to go back for more"!A wonderful trip.

Rating for tour operator:

Communication with Peter Sommer was easy and all questions were replied to quickly. I noted that the special needs of all our group were catered for, and everything was done to make us a harmonious group. The bus driver was excellent, amazingly competent on difficult narrow roads and a lovely person. The hotels and restaurants chosen were interesting and varied, giving a lot of different experiences; the reading list before tour and the notes provided on Greece were great preparation, and the tour leaders were really knowledgeable and went out of their way to answer questions.
