This was a celebration of 20 years of marriage. We had done self drive safari before but the guided experience, faultlessly arranged by Expert Africa, meant we say many many more times the wildlife and had access to geography and knowledge through the guides that made the trip truly special.

The listened to our requirements and hopes and planned the perfect holiday. They communicated really well answering all our questions and queries. We were provided with excellent documentation that covered everything we could need. Our trip was extremely well organised and went like clockwork.

We discovered Expert Africa while reading the Bradt Zambia Safari Guidebook and planning our itinerary. As independent travellers, we rarely use agents, but Expert Africa completely changed our perspective! From start to finish, Amanda, our main contact, was outstanding. Her detailed knowledge, thoughtful guidance, and ability to balance our wish list with our budget were impressive—and that was just the planning stage! Before we left, we even received a hand-made travel wallet with our itinerary, a pen, luggage tags and a guidebook—a thoughtful touch we didn’t expect. Once we arrived, everything ran seamlessly from start to finish. We were met from every flight, experienced zero delays, and never encountered a single issue. Everyone who assisted us was warm, professional, and genuinely helpful. The lodges Amanda selected were outstanding—especially the staff—and the order of our national park visits (Kafue, Lower Zambezi, South Luangwa, and finally Mosi-oa-Tunya) worked perfectly. We loved that each lodge was small (10 rooms or fewer), creating a personal and intimate experience. We never had to check our itinerary—every lodge knew our schedule, transfers, and even that I’m vegetarian (and catered for it perfectly). Mini game drives during transfers were an added bonus, and the fact that we saw so few other vehicles on game drives—sometimes none at all—really enhanced the sense of being completely immersed in the wilderness. What stood out most was the sheer quantity and quality of the wildlife encounters. We’ve been on two safaris before, but never have we been so close to the animals. It felt as if we were immersed in their world, and they were completely unbothered by our presence. We watched elephants with calves calmly strolling past, leopards lounging in trees or walking by with their young, wild dogs resting in the shade, and lions crunching on a kill while hyenas howled and circled just feet away. We saw carmine bee-eaters fleeing from raptors, Martial eagles with a fresh catch, and African fish eagles perched high above. The soundtrack of hundreds of hippos cooling in the rivers was unforgettable. Add to that playful vervet monkeys and baby baboons, graceful giraffes nibbling on acacia trees, zebras in all their striped glory, inquisitive impalas, warthogs snuffling in the dirt, mongoose darting around, and genets slipping past at night. Every moment felt like stepping into a wildlife documentary – it was truly unforgettable. This was one of the best trips we’ve ever taken, and we’ve travelled extensively! We wholeheartedly recommend Expert Africa, and the parks and lodges we visited, to anyone dreaming of exploring this incredible part of the world.
